Adam Sandler has added fellow SNL co-star, Cheri Oteri (Liar Liar) and Happy Madison mainstay, Nick Swardson (Just Go With It) to the cast of Grown Ups 2. Featuring the return of Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek and Maya Rudolph, Sandler’s first ever sequel will feature newcomers Taylor Lautner, Oliver Cooper and David Henrie as fraternity brothers who antagonize Sandler and Co. Dennis Dugan will also return to direct the sequel for Happy Madison and Sony. Hit the jump for details on Oteri and Swardson’s characters.

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner has apparently outgrown vampires and is now interested in comedies. Enter Adam Sandler’s first-ever sequel, Grown Ups 2. Lautner is reportedly in negotiations to star opposite Sandler in a role that would allow him to go “toe-to-toe” with the veteran comedian. Details are in short order at the moment, but reports specify this only as a “fun” role for Lautner, who is looking for another big movie to hang on to. Since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will be closing out the franchise when it hits theaters November 16th, and even with the lackluster box office response to Lautner’s Abduction, the young star might just strike gold in Grown Ups 2. The original film about a reunion of childhood friends grossed over $160 million domestically. Hit the jump for more on the sequel.

I’m starting to think that if the world ends this year, it may not be so bad. Last night, the new Rob Schneider sitcom, Rob, premiered to 13.5 million viewers. Today, we’ve learned that Sony Pictures plans to release on Grown Ups 2 on July 12, 2013. This is sad but not surprising. Last month, we reported that Adam Sandler and screenwriter Fred Wolf were in talks for a potential sequel. That happens when you make the highest grossing movie of your career ($271 million worldwide). There’s no word if co-stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, Schneider, and David Spade will return, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did. I imagine Spade and Schneider work for cheese sandwiches and a smile.
Perhaps the underperformance of Jack and Jill ($88 million worldwide) may have driven Sandler to the first sequel of his career. It’s disturbingly impressive that to this point he kept finding new ways to make awful films without resorting to making even worse sequels. No other film is currently set for July 12, 2013. [ComingSoon]

Believe it or not, from Adam Sandler’s extensive body of films, he has never made a sequel. Now some of you may argue that his basic plot is rehashed in 90% of his films (and I wouldn’t disagree), but the fact remains that there has never been a second installment of any of his films. It seems that the creative well has run even drier as Showblitz (via Variety) reports that Sandler is in talks with Grown Ups scribe, Fred Wolf to discuss a potential sequel. I can’t exactly blame him. Sony and Happy Madison Productions’ Grown Ups was the highest-grossing film for Sandler at a worldwide total of $271 million. Though Sandler is not yet signed on for the sequel, his involvement is contingent upon the script. Perhaps we’ll see him in a reunion with Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. Hit the jump for more, including why this is all America’s fault.

Jack and Jill gained some ground on Saturday, though not enough to slay the Immortals. The 3D action/fantasy film finished first with an estimated $32 million from 3,112 locations. Considering that the film’s distributor was expecting a top opening of $26 million that has to be seen as a win. And even if the film’s total does look somewhat anemic compared to past 3D hits, with the year we’ve had I’d prefer to focus on the positive.
| Title | Weekend | Total | |
| 1 | Immortals | $32,000,000 | $32 |

Earlier this year, we watched Columbia/Sony’s marketing department go absolutely crazy with their push for audiences to see Grown Ups, a comedy starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Apparently, that push worked: Grown Ups earned well over $160m at the box office, a figure that’s truly astounding. Having avoided the film like the Red Death when it was in theaters over the summer, I was curious when Collider’s overlords handed me a copy of the Blu-ray for review: Would Grown Ups be as bad as I was expecting it to be, or were those $160m worth of people right all along? Read on for the full review after the jump…
Pixar’s Toy Story 3 posted another big number this weekend, with an estimated $59 million earned from its 4,028 locations. As expected, Grown Ups placed second with $41 million – right in line with previous entries in the Adam Sandler oeuvre – while Knight & Day placed a distant third. Also, as expected.
| Title | Weekend | Total | |
| 1 | Toy Story 3 | $59,000,000 | $226.5 |
| 2 | Grown Ups | $41,000,000 | $41 |
| 3 | Knight & Day | $20,500,000 | $27.7 |
| 4 | The Karate Kid | $15,400,000 | $135.6 |
| 5 | The A-Team | $6,000,000 | $62.8 |
| 6 | Get Him | $3,010,000 | $54.4 |
| 7 | Shrek 4 | $2,875,000 | $229.3 |
| 8 | Prince of Persia | $2,800,000 | $86.1 |
| 9 | Killers | $2,000,000 | $44 |
| 10 | Jonah Hex | $1,600,000 | $9.1 |
The good news keeps coming for Toy Story 3. Entering its second week on Friday, Pixar’s giant hit brought in another $18 million from its 4,028 dates. Add that to its impressive seven day total of $167.6 million and TS3 easily trumps Iron Man 2 as the highest-grossing launch of 2010. Even with Toy Story so clearly dominating, there was plenty of good news left over for the Grown Ups. The ensemble comedy came in second on Friday with $14 million from its 3,434 dates – right in line with previous Adam Sandler summer debuts like You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and Click. Finally, as expected after its weak Wednesday debut, Fox’s Knight & Day placed a distant third on Friday with just $6.3 million. That means the chances of a $20 million weekend are kind of remote at this point; and that means trouble for this high-profile, high-priced star vehicle. We’ll have all the sorry details tomorrow.
| Title | Friday | Total | |
| 1 | Toy Story 3 | $18,000,000 | $185.6 |
| 2 | Grown Ups | $14,000,000 | $14 |
| 3 | Knight & Day | $6,300,000 | $13.5 |
| 4 | The Karate Kid | $4,800,000 | $125 |
| 5 | The A-Team | $1,900,000 | $61.7 |

Adam Sandler has achieved phenomenal success as an actor, writer, producer and musician, and his films have grossed almost $3 billion worldwide. For his latest feature, Grown Ups, he heads an all-star comedy cast of some of his closest friends to tell the story of five childhood friends who reunite 30 years later, when their beloved former basketball coach dies and leads them to return to the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier.
During a press conference to promote the film, Adam Sandler talked about writing for his friends, raising his kids with the Beverly Hills lifestyle, playing Salma Hayek’s husband and feeling like a grown-up himself. He also talked about producing the new “Gong Show,” writing Born to Be a Star, producing a film about Richard Pryor with Marlon Wayans in the lead role, and playing both male and female characters in Jack and Jill. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Sony has provided us with 5 clips from director Dennis Dugan’s Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph. The movie is about five men who were best friends when they were young kids and now are getting together for the Fourth of July weekend to meet each others’ families for the first time. If you’ve seen the trailer and the TV spots, you’ve seen most of the footage. Hit the jump to check the clips out. Grown Ups gets released June 25.

Director Dennis Dugan will continue his longstanding partnership with Adam Sandler to direct the actor in dual roles for the comedy Jack and Jill. Previously, we only knew that Sandler will play both Jack and his twin sister Jill in the film, deemed a “romantic comedy.” That kind of ambiguity leaves open some dangerously icky possibilities, but recent comments from Sandler make it seem like the romance element is not a major portion of the narrative. Interpret Sandler’s comments for yourself after the jump.

We’ve got a nice batch of trailers for you this fine Friday morning. First up, there’s the great trailer for the action-comedy Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. I’ve come to accept that Tom Cruise: The Celebrity will always be a figure of ridicule, but I still believe that Tom Cruise: The Actor is a lot of fun.
Then there’s the awful trailer for Grown Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade. Let me sum it up right now: Fatty fall down, woman breast-feeds 4-year-old, men pee in swimming pool. Oh the hilarity.
Finally, there’s the trailer for Ondine starring Colin Farrell. It’s worth checking out because it looks like an old myth but told with originality. Hit the jump to see all three trailers along with a synopsis for each movie.

Sony has released a bunch of new images from their summer comedy Grown Ups. Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph, the film is about five friends and former teammates who reunite decades later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier.
With a June 25 release date, you know Grown Ups is going to be a safe middle-of-the-road comedy, but after the insane box office of Paul Bart: Mall Cop , I wouldn’t bet against this film. Hit the jump to check out all the new high resolution images:

You know that Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Chris Rock are good guys because they let their friends Rob Schneider and David Spade share the spotlight despite the complete lack of talent or star power from those two. But we can enjoy another safe, middle-of-the-road comedy from comedians who lost all desire for subversive and challenging humor in their movies (although to be fair, Rock excels when performing his own material). I’m sure it will be successful at the box office, but I’ll be spending time on films I find funny rather than those that make me wistful for a time when Sandler was willing to be madcap enough to set Bradley Whitford on fire in one scene and have him perfectly fine in the next.
