The gestating adaptation of John Gray’s Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus finally has a director and potential star. Summit Entertainment set Leap Year scribes Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan to write the script in January of last year, and now Deadline reports that top commercials director Bryan Buckley will take the helm with Reese Witherspoon attached to star. Buckley has earned the nickname “King of the Superbowl” by helming over 40 spots for the national sporting event, and he also directed those creepy Siri commercials and the baseball rivalry campaign between Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski.

Unless I’m mistaken, this is the first we’ve heard of Witherspoon’s involvement with the film. The Best Actress winner (she won an Oscar, remember?) most recently starred in This Means War and is lined up to join Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz in Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy’s musical One Hit Wonders. Witherspoon also recently signed on to produce and star in the children’s book adaptation Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp. Hit the jump to sample Buckley’s work and read a synopsis for the book. Production on Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus is set to get underway in January.

Here’s a synopsis for Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus:
Once upon a time Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in: they forgot they were from different planets.

Two quick TV bits coming at you starting with news that Arrested Development and recent Two and a Half Men star Judy Greer is working on developing her own half-hour comedy series at ABC (via Deadline). Made of Honor screenwriters Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan are behind the script inspired by Greer's real-life when she moved away from Los Angeles for the man she loves and found herself raising stepchildren and making new friends in a small suburban town. Yep, sounds like a standard sitcom to me.

This season of Chuck already has guest starts like Mark Hamill and Rebecca Romijn lined up, but now THR has learned that Bo Derek (Tommy Boy) will have a guest appearance on the final season of the series as well. Apparently Derek will be playing herself and she has a forbidden romance with one of the characters along with helping reveal some stunning secrets. What a tease! It sounds like this last season of Chuck is going to deliver a great finale for fans with plenty of pomp and circumstance.

Summit Entertainment has tapped a couple of writers to adapt John Gray’s 1992 book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. Leap Year scribes Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan have been set tackle the project. The book is basically a self-help guide for couples that talks about how bridging the gap between differences that exist between the sexes is the key to a happy relationship. Elfont and Kaplan previously directed the uber-90’s films Can’t Hardly Wait and Josie and the Pussycats. Deadline reports that the two will turn the project into a romantic comedy (obviously). No word on whether they’ll take on directing duties as well.
