Possible Description of Two Scenes from Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL [Updated With New Info]

This summer’s superhero fare is off to a great start with the smashing success of The Avengers, and we’ve still got The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man to look forward to.  If you think that sounds like a crowded superhero year, remember that we almost also had Superman in the mix.  Man of Steel was moved from December 2012 to the summer of 2013, and though we really haven’t seen much from director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, we’re most likely getting our first look at the film at Comic-Con in July.

Someone claiming to be a visual effects supervisor has taken to the ever-accurate IMDb message boards to write up a description of two scenes from Man of Steel.  He claims to have seen the clips during a sizzle reel for Weta at a visual effects conference.  The description includes impressions of Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as General Zod, and Snyder’s signature visual flair.  Hit the jump to read on.

Update: The unnamed IMDb user who posted the original description has posted an update which adds credibility to his post.

Update 2: We’ve been asked by WB to take down the descriptions.

IMMORTALS Blu-ray Review

Tarsem Singh directed Immortals, which is readily apparent from the first few seconds. There are few directors working today with such a distinct visual style, and that can be commended – to some extent. What he doesn’t have is a good grasp on how to build a narrative, and so his films play better as an instillation pieces. His movies are filled with pretty images, but they don’t really build a greater narrative. With Immortals he’s got the story of the Greek gods, with humans Theseus (Henry Cavill) facing up against Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), while the gods (Luke Evans, Isabella Lucas, Kellan Lutz) watch and decide if they risk helping mortals. Our review of the Blu-ray of Immortals follows after the jump.

MAN OF STEEL Star Henry Cavill in Talks to Star in Edward Zwick’s THE GREAT WALL

While it feels like Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel has been filming forever, star Henry Cavill is finally looking to book his first post-Superman role. Variety reports that Cavill is now in negotiations to star in director Edward Zwick’s (The Last Samurai) period epic The Great Wall. The film “looks at the mystery behind how China’s Great Wall was constructed.” Zwick wrote the screenplay with Marshall Herskovitz, based on a story by World War Z author Max Brooks and Thomas Tull.

No other plot details are given, but historically speaking the Great Wall was constructed in the 5th century BC in order to keep nomadic groups out of the Chinese Empire. It’s unknown what kind of approach Zwick will take, or what kind of character Cavill will play. The actor was recently seen in Immortals, but we’ve got quite a while to wait before we see him don the tights. Man of Steel opens June 14th, 2013.

First Trailer for Action Thriller COLD LIGHT OF DAY Starring Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 30th, 2012 at 12:42 pm

The first trailer for the action-thriller Cold Light of Day has gone online. The film centers on a man (Henry Cavill) whose family is abducted while vacationing in Spain. As he puts the pieces of their disappearance together, the man uncovers family secrets and a government conspiracy that are responsible for the crime. It looks like a neat little espionage actioner, but I’m not really seeing anything new or interesting being brought to the genre. That said, Cavill sure seems like he can handle himself. Bruce Willis stars as Cavill’s father in another one of his “seasoned law enforcement veteran” roles, while Sigourney Weaver is a nice addition as someone connected to Cavill’s family’s disappearance. Many will be interested in checking the film out if only to see our next Superman (Cavill dons the tights for Man of Steel) take his shot at a leading American role.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Cold Light of Day opens April 6th.

Behind the Scenes Image from MAN OF STEEL Shows Henry Cavill Suited Up

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 23rd, 2012 at 2:16 pm

We’re still quite a ways off from the release of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and the Superman reboot is still in the midst of filming. While we’ve already been privy to quite a few photos from the set, we’ve gotten very few good looks at star Henry Cavill in the Superman suit. Those angling for some suit images should be happy today, as a behind the scenes image from the set has arrived highlighting the superhero getup. Cavill is seen posing for a photo with a young boy, giving us a nice close-up look at his Superman garb. It’s not anything mind-blowing, but with no trailer and only one official image released thus far, we’ll take what we can get.

Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Richard Schiff, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel is slated for June 14th, 2013.

New Set Photos from SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL and Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER

This article highlights both extremes on the spectrum of set photos, using two movie starring Amy Adams as examples. On one hand, you’ve got the blurry candids of Henry Cavill as Superman and Michael Shannon as General Zod on the set of Superman: Man of Steel. Not especially revealing, but Superman! Zod!

On the other hand, we have gorgeous black-and-white photographs taken on the set of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s religious cult picture The Master. No stars or supervillains, but arguably more insightful into the process as a look at the period detail on the 1950s-era costumes and sets. Hit the jump to see the images plus background on both films.

TOP 5: SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, IMMORTALS, CARS 2, THE EXPENDABLES 2, Billy Crystal and Brian Grazer Take on 2012 Oscars

I’m going to bypass my usual opening paragraph musings this week and simply wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day weekend. Given that I don’t have any immediate family or friends who serve, I won’t claim to know the first thing about the sacrifices that each serviceman/woman and their respective families and friends are continually asked to make. I reap all of the benefits of their service without any of the concessions. As a result, I owe a debt of gratitude to each and every one of them.

In this week’s “Top 5″ installment you can find the first trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman, a cornucopia of interviews for Immortals and Cars 2, new set images from the set of The Expendables 2 featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, and a look at the road that led Billy Crystal and Brian Grazer to the top of the 2012 Oscars. IMMORTALS Review

“The director is God.”  It’s a saying that has been applied to directors of both stage and screen.  Directors (theoretically) control every aspect of a production and they marshal armies of various departments to bring forth a vision.  Director Tarsem Singh took the saying as the subtext for his new movie, Immortals.  Singh has always been an indulgent visual stylist, but with Immortals, he has bent a script to create a shining tribute to his own genius.  On the page, the movie is a standard “Hero from humble beginnings”, but in the hands of Singh, it becomes lush, outlandish, baffling, and above all, vainglorious.

Extremely Bloody Fight Scene from Tarsem Singh’s IMMORTALS

“If you anger the gods, prepare to have your ass handed to you.” That’s what Immortals director Tarsem Singh (The Cell) appears to be saying in this clip from the upcoming Greek epic. Definitely not approved by the MPAA for primetime promos, the 80-second fight scene features glowing golden gods rending creatures apart in spectacularly bloody fashion. I don’t recall the Greek gods having chain whips or kamas, but I’m not complaining.

Immortals follows Theseus (Henry Cavill) as he teams up with the Greek gods to take down the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke). The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff. Immortals opens this Friday, November 11. Hit the jump to check out the clip.

With director Tarsem Singh’s new film Immortals opening this weekend, Collider will be overrun with exclusive interviews with the filmmakers and cast over the next few days.  For those not familiar with Immortals (watch the trailer and clips), the film centers on Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal who teams up with the Greek gods in order to defeat the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke).  The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff.

Anyway, earlier today I got on the phone with Henry Cavill for an exclusive interview.  We talked about how he got involved in Immortals, the training, working with Tarsem and Mickey Rourke, the practical sets, his reaction to seeing the finished film, and what it was like to promote the film at WonderCon and Comic-Con.  In addition, since Cavill is currently filming Man of Steel for director Zack Snyder, he talked about what has surprised him about the production, his interaction with producer Christopher Nolan, his reaction to getting cast as Superman, how he prepared for the role, and whether he ever dressed up as Superman as a kid.  Hit the jump for more.

We’ve been provided with eight clips from The Fall director Tarsem Singh’s new film Immortals. The pic centers on Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal, who teams up with the Greek gods in order to defeat the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke). Instead of depicting the gods as ginormous otherworldly creatures, Singh has taken a different route and instead the gods take the form of chiseled immortal beings that don’t look dissimilar from humans.

The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen DorffImmortals opens in 3D on November 11th and we’ll have exclusive interviews with the cast the week of release.  Hit the jump to watch the clips.

New Set Photos from MAN OF STEEL Feature More Shirtless Henry Cavill [UPDATED]

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 25th, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Some more set photos from Man of Steel has surfaced, and Henry Cavill is still shirtless and bearded. They don’t reveal too much, as the background is greenscreen, but it looks like he’s running on a helipad. Someone should probably tell him that he can fly. We’ve seen quite a few set photos of the “homeless Clark Kent”, so I’m wondering just how this fits into the film as a whole and how much screentime is devoted to bearded Superman. Apparently the paparazzi were onset, so we’ll be updating this article if any other images surface.

Hit the jump to see the set photos. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Russell CroweMan of Steel opens June 14, 2013. [Update: As expected, more set photos have surfaced giving us a clearer look at what's going on. They're included after the jump.]

TOP 5: THE AVENGERS Trailer, PHANTOM MENACE 3D Poster, MAN OF STEEL and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Set Photos, THE THING, FOOTLOOSE

I’m writing you this afternoon less than an hour removed from my first trip to the little slice of Americana that is a Bass Pro Shop. For those unfamiliar with the chain, imagine a store with Wal-Mart-esque square footage that devotes itself entirely to all things outdoor. While I’ll admit to being a little out of my element (okay, way out of my element), even an outdoor novice like myself can relish the opportunity to have their picture taken with a taxidermic grizzly bear. For those of you waiting for me to somehow make a connection between my Bass Pro experience and this week’s “Top 5″, this ellipsis is about as close as you’re going to get…

…In this week’s installment you’ll find the much-anticipated first trailer from writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, the first poster for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D, some new set photos from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, and interviews for both The Thing and Craig Brewer’s Footloose. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.
