A new international trailer has been released for James Mangold‘s The Wolverine.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.  Even though this trailer goes further than the previous ones in showing the details of the plot, it’s also my favorite trailer thus far.  It shows off Wolverine being a bad-ass, but also retains some fun comic-book elements like Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova), who has a much bigger role than I suspected, and the gigantic Silver Samurai who comes down like a boss fight.  Hopefully, Mangold has found the right balance between Wolverine’s serious side and the fun comic book elements of good summer blockbuster.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, and Tao Okamoto.  The Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th.

A new trailer for James Mangold‘s The Wolverine has gone online.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  This new trailer goes heavy on the drama by showing Logan’s guilt over killing Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) in X-Men: The Last Stand, and why he would consider getting rid of his powers.  This trailer also shows off the strange mix of ancient Japanese warriors and hi-tech sci-fi; a combination that is best represented by the hulking Silver Samurai.  But if Wolverine can shield a guy from what appears to be a nuclear blast, then a giant robot samurai shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Hugh Jackman Squares off Against Hiroyuki Sanada in New Set Photo from THE WOLVERINE

Shooting wrapped some time ago on The Wolverine, but director James Mangold is happy to keep tweeting set photos.  The latest is a fight between Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Lord Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada), and Mangold added, “Hiro Sanada and HJ rehearse clash of claws and blades. Hiro is a truly great actor, martial artist and friend.”  I’m sure all of this true, but what I don’t understand about this set photo is how Wolverine is even having a battle against a guy with a sword unless the sword is adamantium.  Adamantium swords would be awesome.

A new Japanese trailer for director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine has made its way online.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  There are a few bits of new footage to be found in this trailer, including an increased focus on Wolverine’s possible mortality in the face of danger.  The action sequences continue to look impressive, and I’m hoping the reliance on CG is minimal since the most promising stuff in all of the trailers we’ve seen thus far is the tight, hand-to-hand combat scenes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens on July 26th.

20th Century Fox has released a batch of high-resolution images from director James Mangold’s upcoming sequel The Wolverine.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  We recently got a look at the character in action by way of two trailers, but these images give us a closer (and clearer) look at the environment that Mangold has cooked up for the Japan-set story.  We’ve seen a few of these images before in lower resolution versions, but there are also some new peeks at The Wolverine in action, including a rather impressive chain wrangling.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens on July 26th.

Domestic Trailer for THE WOLVERINE

The international trailer for director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine was released about a half-hour ago, and now the domestic version is online.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  The U.S. trailer contains new footage, and while I think the international version is slightly better, both trailers hammer home the “life-or-death battle”. The big difference is that the U.S. version reveals the man offering Wolverine a chance at mortality.

A new international trailer for director James Mangold’s The Wolverine has been released online. The upcoming film follows the events of X-Men: The Last Stand where a guilt-ridden Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) doesn’t want to live with the curse of immortality, so he’s offered the chance to lose it thanks to a mysterious benefactor.  I really like this premise, although it reminds me a little of this comedy video.  Mangold looks like he’s found a nice balance between action and drama, and I’m eager to see where this story goes.

Hit the jump to watch the international trailer, and click here for the domestic version.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens on July 26th.

Universal’s 3D samurai tentpole 47 Ronin has had a bit of a troubled road through production and post-production, but if all goes according to plan, we’ll be seeing Keanu Reeeves wielding his sword in theaters this coming December.  In anticipation of the pic, some promo posters have gone online that feature the cast doing their best samurai poses.  Reeves stars as one of the 18th century samurai who seek to avenge their master’s death, lending some starpower to the movie.  I don’t imagine we’ll see a trailer until closer to this summer, but these promo posters offer a nice tease of what’s to come.

While these might not be the most flattering set photos of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine, fans couldn’t care less.  We already brought you some concept art and set photos from a “Japanese prisoner of war camp,” but now we have some images from the set in the “Canadian Rockies.”  While these photos are actually from the shoot taking place in Australia, it’s been suggested that The Wolverine is following Frank Miller’s early storyline which puts the eventual X-Man in the frozen north tracking a man-eating Grizzly Bear.  Hit the jump to see the behind-the-scenes shots.

We’ve got a smattering of casting news to throw your way this morning.  First up, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada (the upcoming action flick 47 Ronin) have joined the Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) in Jonathan Teplitzy‘s drama The Railway Man.  Firth plays real-life World War II British officer Eric Lomax, who was captured and tortured by the Japanese.  Decades later, he’s persuaded by his wife (Kidman) to find and confront one of his captors in order to repair the psychological damage.  Irvine plays the younger Lomax who was in the war.  According to Variety, “Skarsgard will play the best friend who accompanies the older Lomax (Firth) back to the scene of his torture. Sanada plays a Japanese officer from the prison camp whom Lomax tracks down.”  This is turning out to be a terrific cast, and judging by the synopsis, this could be a big role for Sanada, whose previous credits include Speed Racer, Sunshine, and Lost.

Keanu Reeves Talks 47 RONIN; First Synopsis Revealed

Can director Carl Erik Rinsch balance a fantastic epic featuring giants and witches with one of Japan’s legendary tale of loyalty and sacrifice?  That’s the question circling 47 Ronin but star Keanu Reeves explains how the film plans to honor the Japanese people who have grown up hearing this tale while still creating a widely-accessible tentpole flick.  Says Reeves,

“Japanese kids grow up with this story told to them. They hear it from family and they learn it in school, it’s part of the culture.  It’s been made into movies many times and on television. It’s like our westerns, the story keeps being told.  It’s been reworked in some ways [for this new film] but with great care and respect.”

Hit the jump for more details on the project including a synopsis.  The film also features Japanese stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Kô Shibasaki, and Rinko Kikuchi.  47 Ronin is set to open in 3D on November 11, 2012.

Four Japanese actors have joined Keanu Reeves in Carl Erik Rinsch’s 47 Ronin. Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost), Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale), Tadanobu Asano (Mongol), and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) will star alongside Reeves in Rinsch’s adaptation of the Japanese legend of ronin who fought to avenge their master’s death.  The film, which Universal is setting up as one of its 2012 tentpoles, is set to be released in 3D on November 11, 2012.

Variety doesn’t say which roles the new cast members will be playing.  However, judging by the previous work I’ve seen from these actors, I’m become more excited for what 47 Ronin holds in store. [Update: Universal has sent us a press release detailing the roles the lead actors will be playing.  Hit the jump to check it out.]
