Though the film’s release is only a few months away, Disney has added a slew of last-minute additions to the voice cast of the animated feature Wreck-It Ralph.  The story centers on the eponymous bad guy (John C. Reilly) from the arcade game “Fix-It Felix Jr.” who decides he wants to be the hero, and escapes to other video game worlds.  The film’s trailer—and premise—is very geek friendly, with video game references and cameos galore.  Now a number of voice actors have been added to the roster, including Alan Tudyk, Ed O’Neill, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz, Dennis Haysbert, Rachel Harris, and many more.

Directed by Matt Walsh, a co-founding member of the world-renowned comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, the entirely improvised comedy High Road tells the story of Glenn “Fitz” Fitzgerald (James F. Pumphrey), a young man whose loyalties are split among his band, his girlfriend Monica (Saturday Night Live’s Abby Elliott), and selling weed. When one of his drug deals goes awry, Fitz and 16-year-old neighborhood kid Jimmy (Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien) hit the road together. Amid car chases, guns and a suspicious doctor (Horatio Sanz), Fitz has to navigate their way to safety. The film also stars Lizzy Caplan (New Girl, True Blood, Party Down), Ed Helms (The Hangover 1 & 2), Rob Riggle (21 Jump Street), Joe Lo Truglio (Wanderlust) and Zach Woods (The Office).

During this interview, conducted at an audio commentary recording session for the DVD/Blu-ray, director Matt Walsh and actor Horatio Sanz talked about how the film was always intended to be a low-budget passion project, the challenges of keeping a totally improvised movie on track, shooting in a creepy old hospital in downtown Los Angeles, that the improvisational films of Christopher Guest and Zak Penn were an inspiration for this one, and how there will be a fair amount of extras included on the DVD/Blu-ray. A trailer is now available for High Road, the fully-improvised comedy by director Matt Walsh (The Hangover). Cast with a ridiculous number of improv comedians at all different levels of fame, High Road stars relative unknowns in the principal roles. James F. Pumphrey (Players) is Fitz, a well-meaning drug-dealer who hits the road to escape his problems and encounters some strange characters along the way. The strong supporting cast features Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, Horatio Sans, Kyle Gass, Abby Elliott, Lizzy Caplan and Zach Woods. While it plays like a mash-up of Harold and Kumar and Pineapple Express, I can’t quite figure out if it’s destined to be a cult classic or a simple misfire. We just heard that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are developing a new comedy series for HBO with Lizzy Caplan, but on August 17th yet another comedy series from the Anchorman collaborators will debut on Comedy Central with back-to-back episodes. Big Lake is a new half-hour sitcom about a big city banker, played by Chris Gethard (The Other Guys). He loses his job, his father’s nest egg, and retirement fund, then moves home to his parents’ couch in Big Lake, Pennsylvania, where Saturday Night Live alums Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz are already waiting for him.  Hit the jump for more details on the new series including an extended trailer for your viewing pleasure.

A weekly sitcom produced by Will Ferrell (Anchorman) and starring Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and Chris Parnell (the funniest parts of SNL) sounds like an idea that’s too good to be true, right?  Production was set to begin next month, but EW is reporting that Jon Heder has decided to part ways from the as-yet-unnamed Comedy Central series over “creative differences” about the character.  Keep in mind that Heder willingly played a helmet-wearing, booger-eating, mentally handicapped paperboy alongside Rob Schneider in The Benchwarmers.  Hopefully, Heder’s departure isn’t a sign of the show’s quality but combined with Comedy Central’s checkered past of original series, I’m a little wary.

The series is reportedly about a man who is forced to move back in with his parents.  As we reported a couple weeks ago, Horatio Sanz, who co-starred with Parnell and Ferrell on SNL, is also attached to the project.  And though I would personally like to see them play the parents, this seems unlikely at best.

Two former Saturday Night Live stars will join with Napoleon Dynamite in a new Comedy Central sitcom. Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz have been cast along with Jon Heder in an untitled sitcom being produced by Gary Sanchez Productions (the Will Ferrell/Adam McKay company). Shooting starts March 31 in New York and the show will premiere in the third quarter.

“Anyone in the comedy world knows that Horatio Sanz and Chris Parnell are two of the funniest guys around,” Adam McKay told Variety. Both of them were strong presences on SNL for several years, crafting original characters as well as playing key supporting roles. More recently, they’ve been relegated to those supporting roles in both TV and film. However, any connection to SNL gives an actor a much higher comedy IQ so it’s a safe bet that this show will be funny enough to warrant a DVR’d episode or two.
