The red-band trailer for the R-rated comedy That’s My Boy (previously titled “I Hate You Dad“) has gone online. The film stars Adam Sandler as rich party animal who tries to avoid going to jail for tax evasion by getting his estranged and independently-wealthy son (Andy Samberg) to front him the cash to pay back the IRS. The jerk-off dad decides to make this play during the son’s upcoming nuptials and chaotic hilarity ensues.
There are two surprising things about this trailer. First, this is Sandler’s first R-rated comedy since 1996′s Bulletproof. Second, I chuckled a few times during this trailer, which doesn’t make sense since I can’t remember the last time an Adam Sandler movie made me do that. Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer. The film also stars Leighton Meester and James Caan. That’s My Boy opens June 15th.

Sony has released official synopses for the new James Bond film Skyfall, the Kevin James “comedy” Here Comes the Boom, the Adam Sandler “comedy” I Hate You Dad (or “Donny’s Boy“, although I prefer “I Hate You Dad” so I’ll stick with that one for now), the other Adam Sandler “comedy” Hotel Transylvania, and the remake of Total Recall. Reading the synopsis for Total Recall, I’m not exactly sure how much it will differ from the original other than keeping the action off of Mars. As for Skyfall, the premise sounds terrific and hopefully director Sam Mendes and his talented cast can deliver.

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you today. First up, Susan Sarandon has joined the cast of the Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy I Hate You Dad. The comedy revolves around a father who moves in with his son and his son’s fiancé just before they’re about to get married, with Leighton Meester set to play Samberg’s fiancée. THR reports that in addition to Sarandon, Will Forte, Milo Ventimiglia, Eva Amurri (Californication), Blake Clark, Meagan Fay (Party Down), Tony Orlando, Dan Patrick and previously announced James Caan are all in negotiations to join the Sean Anders-directed comedy. Sarandon will play a sexy teacher who is the mother of Samberg’s character.
Additionally, Jennifer Hudson is the latest actor to join the cast of the Farrelly brothers’ The Three Stooges. The film stars Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Stephen Collins and Craig Bierko. Deadline reports that Hudson will play Sister Rosmary at the orphanage that the Stooges are raised. Lynch and David play two other (presumably evil) nuns at the orphanage. The Three Stooges is currently filming. The Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy I Hate You Dad may have just found an Academy Award nominee to join the cast. The Wrap reports that Colombia Pictures is looking at grabbing James Caan for a role in the film. The plot revolves around a father who moves in with his son and his son’s fiancé just before they’re about to get married.
Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine) are set to direct the comedy from a script by David Case, which subsequently got a rewrite by Ken Marino and David Wain (Role Models).

Sean Anders and John Morris, the screenwriters of Sex Drive and Hot Tub Time Machine, are in talks to helm the Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy vehicle I Hate You Dad. Variety reports that this would mark the directorial debut for Morris (Anders directed Sex Drive). I Hate You Dad centers on a father who moves in with his son and immediately starts feuding with the son’s bride-to-be. The original script, by David Case, subsequently received a rewrite by David Wain and Ken Marino (Role Models). I Hate You Dad was slated for a June 22nd, 2012 release last month. Anders and Morris most recently scripted Mr. Poppers Penguins which stars Jim Carrey.

Adam Sandler is in talks to play Andy Samberg’s father in I Hate You Dad though less than twelve years separate their ages in real life. According to THR, “The story centers on a father who moves in on the eve of his son’s wedding and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be.” Columbia Pictures first picked up the project in August 2008 from a script by David Caspe that has since been rewritten by David Wain and Ken Marino (Role Models).
I Hate You Dad is one of several possible starring vehicles for Sandler including Narco, The $40,000 Man, and Valet Guys with Kevin James. Sandler will next be seen in Just Go With It opposite Jennifer Aniston (February 11th), followed by Jack and Jill opposite Adam Sandler in drag later in the year. Samberg has supporting roles in the upcoming big screen comedies Friends With Benefits and What’s Your Number.
With all due respect to Kevin James, Samberg/Sandler is a more exciting comedic prospect if only thanks to the novelty. And that’s before you factor in the invigorating potential of a script from Wain and Marino.
