New Images from NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH, LIFE OF PI, ICE AGE 4, and DIARY OF A WIMPY KID 3

Do you hear that?  That’s the sound of new images from four 20th Century Fox movies:

• Neighborhood Watch – Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade star in the alien invasion comedy.
• Life of Pi – Ang Lee is directing the adaptation of Yann Martel‘s fantasy adventure novel with Suraj Sharma in the lead.
• Ice Age: Continental Drift – Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah reprise their characters in the fourth entry in the animated series.
• Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days – Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn, and Robert Capron are back to depict more of the awkward adventures of middle schooler Greg Heffley

New Images from MOONRISE KINGDOM, ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT, GREAT HOPE SPRINGS, and RUBY SPARKS

We’ve got a few new images to share with you today.  Briefly:

• Moonrise Kingdom – Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray star in writer-director Wes Anderson’s latest film.  The story centers on two 12-year-olds who fall in love at summer camp in 1965 and run away together.  The film opens on May 25th.
• Ice Age: Continental Drift – The fourth film in the Ice Age franchise follows the prehistoric characters during the breakup of Pangea and the splitting of the continents.  The film opens in 3D on July 13th.
• Great Hope Springs – Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones star as a married couple seeking a weekend of counseling from a therapist played by Steve Carell.  The film opens on August 10th.
• Ruby Sparks – Directors Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton’s long-awaited follow-up to Little Miss Sunshine stars Paul Dano as a creatively blocked, once-great novelist who writes his dream girl (Zoe Kazan) who then comes to life.  The film opens on July 25th.

New Trailer for ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT Parodies THE ARTIST

Since The Artist is lined-up to win big at the Academy Awards on Sunday, Fox has piggybacked off the silent film to create a parody trailer for their upcoming film Ice Age: Continental Drift.  Like every Ice Age film, the teasers are all based around Scrat trying to get an acorn but being thwarted in his attempts.  It’s very Looney Tunes, and they’re far better than the full-length films, which feature uninteresting characters and flat jokes.  Scrat sells the movie, but the movies barely features Scrat.  It’s a constant bait-and-switch.  However, the franchise has been ridiculous successful and that’s why the fourth film is on the way this summer.

To see Scrat in The Artist-form, check out the trailer after the jump.  The celebrity-packed voice cast includes Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Wedge, John Leguizamo, and Aziz Ansari, Nick Frost, Joy Behar, JB Smoove, Alan Tudyk, Heather Morris, Josh Gad, Kunal Nayyar, Alain Chabat, and hip/hop artist Nicki Minaj.  Ice Age: Continental Drift opens in 3D on July 13th.  A non-parody trailer is due out on March 5th.

ICE AGE: A MAMMOTH CHRISTMAS Blu-ray Review

Let me start by saying that I have not seen the entirety of the Ice Age movies.  I have seen small parts at a time but this was my first full experience with these characters.  I watched it with my 4-year old daughter as well, so I can offer some of her perspective (if it seems more mature than mine, I am sure it is simply an error in reading skills).

It had been a long time since I had seen a “new” animated Christmas special.  My daughter and I regularly watched animated holiday videos this season like Charlie Brown, Rudolph, and Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas (which I believe still holds up). New Posters for ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT and Season Two of THE WALKING DEAD

We’ve got a couple of new posters to share with you today. First up is an adorably cute one sheet for Ice Age: Continental Drift. The flick is the fourth entry in the Ice Age franchise, and it appears that it may be a sea-set adventure. Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier are directing the film, which features a voice-cast that includes Ray Romano, Jeremy Renner, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Frost, Josh Gad, John Leguizamo, Aziz Ansari, and many, many others. Ice Age: Continental Drift opens in 3D on July 13th, 2012.

Switching mediums, we’ve also got a poster for the upcoming second season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. For some reason Rick is alone, and running towards a farmhouse, so one can safely assume that things are not well. The series has gone through some very public troubles, with showrunner Frank Darabont being forced out of the show halfway through production on season two. A 90-minute premiere is set for October 16th, but the season is being cut in half with the final six episodes of the 12-episode season set to air starting February 12th. So I guess we’ll call the first half “Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead” and the back half “Not Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead.” Anywho, hit the jump to check out the posters.

Casting Call: Scoot McNairy Joins Ben Affleck’s ARGO; Corbin Bleu Takes on NURSE 3D; Nick Frost and More Lend Voices to ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT

We have several bits of casting news to bring your way tonight. First up, Scoot McNairy (upcoming Cogan’s Trade) has joined the cast of director/star Ben Affleck’s Argo. In addition to Affleck, McNairy will also appear alongside Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and Alan Arkin in the Warner Bros. pic that is based upon a 2007 article from Wired magazine. Chris Terrio adapted the Joshuah Bearman piece entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran” which tells the rescue story of six U.S. diplomats in 1979. Variety scooped the news of McNairy’s casting, but doesn’t divulge any details regrading his character. The film is currently eyeing a 2012 release.

Next up, High School Musical‘s Corbin Bleu is taking his talents from an educational setting to a medical one.  The actor has signed on to star alongside Paz De La Huerta and 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden in Lionsgate’s horror flick Nurse 3D. According to Variety, Bleu will take on the role of Bowden’s boyfriend (poor guy), who gets caught up in (a.k.a. most likely murdered) the violent outbursts of De La Huerta’s character, Abby. In case you want to learn a little more about the film, this NSFW concept art should pretty much tell you all you need to know. Nurse 3D is also aiming for an unspecified 2012 release. Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Aziz Ansari and More Join Voice Cast of ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT

Hot off the heels of being named the lead in The Bourne Legacy, Jeremy Renner has been tapped to join the voice cast of Ice Age: Continental Drift alongside fellow additions Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Aziz Ansari, Keke Palmer and Drake. Returning for the fourth film in the Ice Age series are franchise staples Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Seann William Scott and Josh Peck.

THR reports that Renner will portray Gutt, “a self-styled master of the high seas” while Lopez will take on the role of Shira, a sabre tooth and love interest for Leary’s character. Ice Age: Continental Drift is slated for July 13^th, 2012, and given the commercial success of the franchise it’s safe to assume that more sequels will follow.

Short Film from ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT; SCRAT’S CONTINENTAL CRACK UP

The Ice Age trilogy’s most popular character has a new short film to call his own. Scrat, the saber-toothed rat-like squirrel, is grabbing the spotlight this time in Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up, a short film from the creators of the upcoming Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Directed by Steve Martino and Michael Thurmeier, the animated short from Blue Sky Studios showcases Scrat’s ongoing obsession with acorns and uses it to explain how Earth ended up with six continents rather than one.  Hit the jump to check out the short film.  Ice Age: Continental Drift is set to hit theaters on July 13, 2012.

ICE AGE 4 (ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT) Will Be Released July 13, 2012

20th Century Fox has officially announced Ice Age 4 is moving forward and it’ll get released on July 13, 2012.  Tentatively titled Ice Age: Continental Drift, the 3D animated movie was a given after the third film, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, made almost $900 million at the worldwide box office.

In fact, while some sequels make less than the previous film, each Ice Age installment has made more money than the one before.  The original Ice Age made $383 million (worldwide), Ice Age: The Meltdown made $655 (worldwide), and I’ve already said the last one almost $900 million.  That’s a staggering amount of money for a third film.

The other interesting note is the Ice Age movies have been getting released every three years since 2002.  Using simple math, it’s safe to assume Ice Age 5 will hit theaters in 2015.

Collider Watches 15 Minutes of DESPICABLE ME (Video Blog Recap) Plus Interview With Producer Chris Meledandri

Last Friday, a few online reporters were invited to the Santa Monica office of Illumination Entertainment to watch about 15 minutes of Universal Pictures’ inaugural 3D CGI feature Despicable Me.  In addition to watching the footage, we were able to speak with producer Chris Meledandri (Ice Age franchise, Robots, Horton Hears a Who!) about leaving 20th Century Fox and starting Illumination Entertainment, which has a multi-picture deal to deliver live-action and animated all-audience films for Universal Pictures.

Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro Are Voicing Blue Sky Studios RIO

While Blue Sky Studios has produced some great looking movies (the “Ice Age” films and “Horton Hears A Who”), only “Horton” impressed me with both its animation and story. However, since it was based on a Dr. Seuss book, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Anyway, Blue Sky Studios, Fox Animation and director Carlos Saldanha have announced their next animated project and it’s called “Rio”. According to THR, the film follows the adventures of a nerdy macaw who leaves his small-town Minnesota cage for Rio de Janeiro. While I’m sure there is a lot more to the story, that’s the logline for now.

While the story sounds a little weak, they’re trying to get Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro to voice the film. Anything that has Neil Patrick Harris voicing a character gets a pass from me. Of course, with the three “Ice Age” movies, “Horton” and “Robots”, Blue Sky and Fox have made $2.4 billion in worldwide grosses since 2002. Clearly my opinion doesn’t really matter. Chris Jenkins (“Surf’s Up”) and Bruce Anderson (“Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!”) are producing.
