We have seen a couple previews for toys from The Dark Knight Rises. We are currently in the business of passing along all things Batman, so tonight we have a few more looks at the toys that will be unveiled at the Nuremburg Toy Fair. Most notable to this unsophisticated toyman is the vinyl pop version of Bane, easily the most adorable likeness of a masked psychopath I’ve ever seen. There is a vinyl Catwoman to match (sensible given her costume), along with your basic Batman action figure accompanied by a very interesting contraption.
Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine star in the final entry of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy. The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20. See the images after the break.

We noticed that the first image from Sparkle popped up recently—since this is the first film still of Whitney Houston since 1996′s The Preacher’s Wife, we wanted to get it up on the site this weekend. Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name inspired by The Supremes. Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, and Carmen Ejogo star as three sisters start out singing at their local church, and go on to find great success (and the troubles that come with it) as a Motown girl group.
Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee-Lo Green, and Omari Hardwick also star; Salim Akil (Jumping the Broom) is directing. R. Kelly wrote new original songs to add to the Curtis Mayfield score from the original. Sparkle is set for release on August 10. See the image after the jump.

With director Michael Sucsy‘s The Vow opening on February 10, Screen Gems has provided us with five movie clips and eleven images from the film. Based on a true story, the film stars Rachel McAdams as a woman who loses all her recent memory in a car crash, including that of her husband played by Channing Tatum. The film focuses on McAdams trying to get her life back, anchored by Tatum’s struggle to make her fall in love with him again. The Vow also stars Sam Neil, Scott Speedman, and Jessica Lange. Hit the jump for the clips and images and look for exclusive video interviews with the cast next week.

A new image from The Hobbit has surfaced online today. It is especially heroic, depicting Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins covered in dirt, wielding a sword Sting, a determined growl on his face. [Update: Commenter Deepak pointed out that Freeman's hand is around Sting, "the blade that glows blue when Orcs are close." My Hobbit knowledge doesn't run that deep, but it sounds noteworthy.] In case you needed any, this is more evidence to me that Freeman is an inspired choice for the part.
Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, and Stephen Fry also star. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 14, 2012 followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again on December 13, 2013. Hit the jump for the full image in high resolution, plus quotes from director Peter Jackson and co-writer Philippa Boyens on the story and production.

A few new images and and a synopsis for the drama The Words have been released. The film stars Bradley Cooper as a writer who, after discovering an extraordinary lost manuscript, passes the work off as his own and receives overwhelming critical acclaim. Jeremy Irons plays the man who originally wrote the manuscript, and the film weaves multiple narratives to tell the story of how “one man’s lost legacy holds the life of another man captive.” The Words was written by, and marks the directorial debut of, Tron: Legacy scribes Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, and features a pretty impressive cast that includes Zoe Saldana, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde, Ben Barnes, and JK Simmons. Hit the jump to check out the images as well as the synopsis. The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 19 – 29.

While Hollywood’s zombie obsession has tapered off a bit, it’s far from dead. Though some of the recent zombie output suggests profit rather than creative fascination is the motivating factor, director Jonathan Levine’s (50/50) adaptation of Isaac Marion‘s novel Warm Bodies sounds like a wholly intriguing and incredibly fun zombie pic. The “zombie love story” stars Nicholas Hoult as “R”, a zombie who falls in love with Julie (Teresa Palmer) after he eats her boyfriend’s brains and absorbs his memories. It’s a really cool premise anchored by a stellar supporting cast (Rob Corddry, John Malkovich) and an exciting young filmmaker.
The first official image of Hoult as the zombified “R” has been released, and it’s pretty great. The look is different enough from the gruesome zombies of The Walking Dead to appear fresh, yet still maintains the vacant stare and pale skin that says “I hunger for brains.” The stain is a nice touch as well. Hit the jump to check out the image. Warm Bodies opens August 10th.
[Update: Summit has released three more images, now included after the jump.]

With director Steven Soderbergh’s spy-action pic Haywire opening January 20th, we’ve been provided with three clips and almost forty images from the film. Staring MMA fighter Gina Carano as a burned spy who takes revenge against her handlers, Haywire also stars Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Angarano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, and Bill Paxton.
I’ve seen Haywire twice now and it’s fantastic. On top of Carano’s star in the making performance, the action scenes are some of the best I’ve seen in years. It’s absolutely something you should see in a theater. Hit the jump for the clips and images and look for my exclusive video interviews with the cast next week.

We’ve been provided with five clips and sixteen images from director Baltasar Kormákur’s crime thriller Contraband. The film is set in the world of international smuggling and stars Mark Wahlberg as a man trying to escape his days as a criminal. When his brother-in-law (Caleb Landry Jones) botches a deal, Wahlberg’s character must settle his brother-in-law’s debt in order to keep him safe from a drug boss (Giovanni Ribisi). The film also stars Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, J.K. Simmons, and Diego Luna.
Hit the jump to check out the clips and images. Contraband opens January 13th, 2012.

Screen Gems has sent over 5 movie clips and 12 images for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth entry in the Vampires vs. Lycans franchise. Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene, “who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.” Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley, and Charles Dance also star; Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein directed the January 20, 2012 release. While I’m under embargo from writing what I thought, I suggest watching my interview with Beckinsale from earlier today, as I may have said something on camera.

Warner Bros. has released new images and official synopses for director Nima Nourizadeh‘s Project X, Walter Hill‘s Bullet to the Head, Adam Shankman‘s Rock of Ages, and Todd Lincoln‘s The Apparition. While we’ve already seen an extremely funny trailer for Project X (which was produced by Todd Phillips) and a mediocre first trailer for Rock of Ages, WB has yet to release any footage from Bullet to the Head (which stars a shirtless Sylvester Stallone) and The Apparition (which was originally scheduled for release last year). With these first images being released, I’d imagine we’ll be getting the first trailers very soon. As a big fan of Walter Hill (48 Hours, Brewster’s Millions, The Warriors, The Driver), I’m really hoping Bullet to the Head is awesome. Hit the jump for more.

Warner Bros. has released a few new images from director Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises that feature Tom Hardy as Bane, Batman and a new weapon, and Nolan with an IMAX camera. While some of the images were already featured in this month’s Empire magazine, this is our first look at high resolution versions, and the image of Nolan with the IMAX camera is new.
Like most of you, I’m beyond excited for the final Nolan Batman movie and ecstatic that between 40 and 50 minutes will be in IMAX. If you have the opportunity to see The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue before showings of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, do it. It’s absolutely worth the extra money and you’ll wish the entire movie was being released in the large screen format. Hit the jump for the new images.

Disney will shepherd three animated movies into theaters in 2012. Though we are still waiting for our first glimpse of the promising Wreck-It Ralph, Disney has offered a few looks at both Pixar’s Brave and Tim Burton’s Frankenweeie. Brave, a fairy tale set in the Scottish Highlands, has received the full treatment: two trailers, many images, and a poster to promote the June 22, 2012 release. The stop-motion Frankenweenie comes out later on October 5, 2012, so we only have these images to go by. Expect a trailer for Frankenweenie soon. In the meantime, check out a new image for both Brave and Frankenweenie after the jump, along with more info on each film.

The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer are currently working on an adaptation of Cloud Atlas starring Halle Barry, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, and Jim Sturgess. As someone who has not read the David Mitchell‘s book, it sounds very exciting. Mitchell tells six stories that span multiple continents and centuries. All the actors all playing multiple roles. The Wachowskis are directing one unit, Tykwer is directing a second unit in parallel. It’s all very ambitious stuff, and I am glad the Wachowskis still have the power to get this made after Speed Racer flopped.
The first official image from production on Cloud Atlas has surfaced. I do not understand what’s going on within, but it has readers of the book excited. Hit the jump to check it out.

The first images from the production of Lincoln caused a stir because Daniel Day-Lewis looks amazing in character as Abraham Lincoln. Among a new round of set photos, we have our first look at a mustachioed Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of our 16th president. Not quite the same impact, but Gordon-Levitt looks sharp in period costue.
The shoot is on location in Old Towne Petersburg in Virginia to take advantage of the period architecture. Along with the Gordon-Levitt photo, there are a couple of pictures that pull back for a broader view of the set that give you a sense of the scope and detail of Steven Spielberg‘s production. Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, and Jared Harris also star. Lincoln is expected to hit theaters in late 2012. Hit the jump for the photos.
