Ahead of the film’s Cannes Film Festival debut later this month, a new red-band trailer and debut poster for writers/directors Joel and Ethan Coen’s new film Inside Llewyn Davis have been released online.  The film takes place in the folk music scene of New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1960s, and while this trailer isn’t wholly different from the previous one we saw, there are a few bits of R-rated new footage here and there that are spot-on Coen brothers.  Set against the appropriate musical stylings of one Bob Dylan, the trailer highlights impressive turns from stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, as well as yet another great Coen brothers performance from John Goodman.  December feels like an eternity away knowing that Inside Llewyn Davis is just waiting for us.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to see the new poster.  The film also stars Justin Timberlake, F. Murray Abraham, Garrett Hedlund, and Adam DriverInside Llewyn Davis will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month and opens in theaters December 6th.

It’s an exciting year for movies for a number of reasons, but surely at the top of the list is the fact that we have a new Coen brothers film headed our way.  The prospect of seeing a new feature from brothers Joel and Ethan is thrilling in and of itself, but Inside Llewyn Davis is all the more promising given that it sees the Coens tooling around in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene.  A batch of new images has landed online ahead of the film’s Cannes Film Festival debut later this month, giving us full-color looks at some previously released black-and-white images as well as a couple of wholly new photos that highlight stars Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, and a smile-inducing appearance by Girls standout Adam Driver wearing a cowboy hat.  I seriously cannot wait to see this movie.

Hit the jump to take a look at the new images.  Inside Llewyn Davis will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month and is slated for a December 6th theatrical release.

The full lineup for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival was announced today, and it looks like a really great group of films will be screening in the south of France later next month.  Official selections include Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the CandelabraJoel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis, Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives, Alexander Payne’s Nebraska, Roman Polanski’s Venus In Fur, and James Gray’s The Immigrant (previously titled Low Life).  Additionally, the Robert Redford man vs. nature film All Is Lost will premiere out of competition, and Sofia Coppola’s The Bling RingJames Franco’s As I Lay Dying, and the Sundance hit Fruitvale Station (previously titled Fruitvale) will screen Un Certain Regard.

A number of these titles are early awards contenders, and I’m particularly interested to hear the reaction for the Coens’ Davis and Payne’s The Descendants follow-up Nebraska, which is a black-and-white road trip movie starring Will Forte and Bruce Dern.  Hit the jump to read the full lineup.  The 2013 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 15 – 26th.

Writers/directors Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest film, Inside Llewyn Davis, has secured distribution.  The Brothers Coen produced the film without a domestic distributor, and following a screening for potential buyers last week, a bidding war broke out between studios that were vying to acquire the pic.  CBS Films came out the victor, and the studio will now handle the domestic distribution of the drama that takes place in the folk music scene of New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1960s.  Oscar Isaac (Drive) stars as the titular singer/songwriter who struggles to find his way, with Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham, and John Goodman rounding out the impressive cast.

The film debuted an absolutely fantastic trailer a couple of weeks ago, and rumors have swirled that it might be making its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.  No firm release date has been set, but look for Inside Llewyn Davis to be a major awards player later this year.  Hit the jump to read the press release.

Even before watching the trailer, my most anticipated film of 2013 was the Coen BrothersInside Llewyn Davis simply because it’s from the Coen Brothers.  Joel and Ethan Coen could do a toothpaste commercial, and I would consider it a must-see event.  Davis stars Oscar Isaac as the eponymous folk singer/songwriter who struggles to find his way in New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1961.  While the movie is based on The Mayor of Macdougal Street, the posthumous 2005 memoir by godfather of the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene, Dave Von Ronk, author Elijah Wald (who compiled the memoir from Ronk’s reminiscences) tells the New York Times that in Inside Llewyn Davis, “The character is not at all Dave, but the music is.”

Hit the jump for more including two new images.  The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, and John Goodman.

First Trailer for the Coen Brothers’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS Starring Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan

The first trailer for the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis is now available.  The story centers on the titular folk singer/songwriter, played by Oscar Isaac, who struggles to find his way in New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1960s.  The trailer shows us that, although he’s not overtly a ne’er-do-well, everyone around him sure does seem to despise him quite a bit.  Llewyn’s lover Jean Berkey (Carey Mulligan) is particularly vicious while John Goodman’s character appears to be more of a curmudgeonly businessman/agent type, with some apparent health problems.

Also starring Justin Timberlake, Garret Hedlund, Adam Driver and F. Murray Abraham, Inside Llewyn Davis opens later this year.  Hit the jump to see the trailer.

Oscar Isaac Reveals New Details about the Coen Brothers INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

After the Coen Brothers fired off four excellent films in the span of four years, it feels like an eternity until we’ll see their next one, Inside Llewyn Davis.  The movie stars Oscar Isaac as the eponymous young musician (loosely based on real-life folk singer Dave Van Ronk) trying to make it in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene.  The film shot in Manhattan earlier this year, and I harbored a brief hope that the flick would appear at the Toronto International Film Festival, but no dice.  It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer, but at least today we know a little bit more about the film.

Hit the jump for what Isaac had to say about the upcoming movie, which also stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, Stark Sands, and John Goodman.

We’re more than happy to report all things Coen Brothers, but I’ll admit the first photos from the set of Inside Llewyn Davis were pretty dull.  I love signage as much as the next guy, but now we’ve got some good set photos to show you.  The new images show off lead actors Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Justin Timberlake, and the male cast members have gone bearded.  The film is set in 1960s Greenwich folk scene, so the actors look period-appropriate.  I’m not sure why Isaac is carrying around a cat, but I’m sure the cat digs his beard.  Cats love beards almost as much as they like Internet memes.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film also stars Garrett Hedlund, Stark Sands, and John Goodman.

The first set photos from the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis have gone online.  The film follows a young musician (Oscar Isaac) trying to make it in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene.  Filming is underway in Manhattan and the production has sent the shooting location back to the 60s.  It’s looking good, although the Coens could just charge onto the set of Mad Men and say “Everything here is ours now.  Our Oscars trump your Emmys.”  This is a sound plan and I believe Joel and Ethan Coen should seriously consider it.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, Stark Sands, and John Goodman.

We’ve got a few quick casting stories to report this morning.  First up, Stark Sands (Generation Kill) has joined the Coen Brothers‘ upcoming film Inside Llewyn Davis.  The movie takes place in 1961 Greenwich Village and centers on a young musician (Oscar Isaac) trying to make it in the folk scene.  The film co-stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, and John Goodman.  According to Deadline, Sands will play “Troy Nelson, a young soldier on leave who’s a forlorn and talented musician.”  Sands’ recently appeared in the Broadway adaptation of Green Day‘s Americna Idiot.

Garrett Hedlund Joins Coen Bros.’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

Joel and Ethan Cohen’s folk drama Inside Llewyn Davis keeps looking better and better. Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, and John Goodman are all set to star in the flick which follows a young musician (Isaac) trying to make it in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene. Now Showblitz reports that Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund is in negotiations to join the cast. Every actor cast thus far has at least a little musical background, and Hedlund is no different as he showed off his singing chops in Country Strong.

The actor is set to star in Warner Bros.’ Akira, but production on that film was recently halted as the studio wants more time to develop the script. That push on Akira opened up room in Hedlund’s schedule to fit Inside Llewyn Davis in.

Carey Mulligan Talks SHAME, THE GREAT GATSBY, and the Coen Bros.’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

by     Posted: November 18th, 2011 at 9:04 am

The NC-17 rated drama Shame follows Brandon (Michael Fassbender), a New Yorker who refuses intimacy with women while feeding his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his younger sister, Sissy (Carey Mulligan), unexpectedly moves into his apartment, she stirs up memories of their shared painful past, and Brandon’s life begins to spiral further out of control.

During this exclusive interview with Collider, actress Carey Mulligan talked about how devastated she would have been if she hadn’t gotten to play Sissy, that she never knew what co-star Michael Fassbender was going to do during their scenes, how unflinching and uncompromising director Steve McQueen is, and how sex addiction is a subject that should be discussed, but that this film is definitely not for children. She also talked about how extraordinary it is to be in The Great Gatsby and work with Leonardo DiCaprio and Baz Luhrmann, how the Coen brothers are her favorite filmmakers and that she can’t believe she gets to be one of their characters (in Inside Llewyn Davis), and that she couldn’t refuse the opportunity to work with Spike Jonze. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

A couple of high-profile 2012 films just added some more great actors to their casts.  First up, Showbiz411 reports that John Goodman is set to reunite with the Coen Brothers for a sixth time for their upcoming drama Inside Llewyn Davis.  The story follows a young musician (played by Drive‘s Oscar Isaac) trying to make it in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene.  Carey Mulligan will co-star and a couple days ago we learned that Justin Timberlake had been offered a role.  There are currently no details on what role Goodman will play, but every time he teams up with the Coens, it works out pretty great.  Goodman will next be seen in the awards-season contenders The Artist and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Hit the jump for casting news on Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained.

Justin Timberlake Offered Co-Lead in the Coen Bros.’ INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

Justin Timberlake is shaping up to be quite the actor. After earning high praise for his dramatic turn in David Fincher’s The Social Network, it appears that the actor may be set to work with another master filmmaker. Make that two master filmmakers, actually. Timberlake has been offered the co-lead role in the next film from Joel and Ethan Coen, Inside Llewyn Davis. The film centers on the 1960s folk music scene in New York, so it’s a role that hits all the right notes (zing!) for Timberlake. Drive’s Oscar Isaac has already landed one of the lead roles, as has talented actress Carey Mulligan. Hit the jump for more, including who each actor is poised to play.
