The strange duality of Ringer – reflective of the CW show’s content – that while at once being one of the most highly anticipated of the Fall 2011 TV season (The return of Buffy!), almost no one knows anything about it. So clouded under a veil of mystery and enticing riddles, the only known facts are these: Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a “woman in trouble” who takes over the life of her recently deceased (or is she?) identical sister and then, well… I have no clue, but color me intrigued. Intrigued enough to attend the 2011 Comic Con panel (featuring the likes of Gellar, Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonell, Kristoffer Polaha and series creators Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder) in the pursuit of answers to just what the hell this show’s about. Choice highlights (and maybe answers) follow along with a new trailer after the jump.

If you didn’t know by now, Sarah Michelle Gellar is making her return to TV on The CW’s new series Ringer. We reported the series pick-up last week along with some clips from the series itself, but now The CW has released an extended trailer that gives us a much better idea of what this show is all about. The series features Gellar as a woman, who after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. I’m not entirely convinced this is a must-watch series yet, but plenty of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will surely want to see Gellar’s return to the network. As for me, The CW has never really delivered the kind of programming I’m usually fond of, but I might give this a try. You can decide for yourself after watching the trailer after the jump.

James Cameron keeps trying to make the case for 3D but perhaps he should work harder in making the case for quality stories. As a producer on Alister Grierson’s new 3D film Sanctum, Cameron is essentially putting his name on the picture and giving it his stamp of approval. That’s a big mistake since the 3D highlights the shortcomings of the film’s visual effects and does nothing to make us care more about the characters and their fight for survival. At best, the 3D makes the underwater caves of Sanctum slightly more immersive, but I don’t go to movies so I can be somewhat impressed by underwater caves.

Continuing our coverage of the James Cameron produced underwater epic Sanctum is a video interview with Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Parkinson. Guffudd and his perfectly coifed hair have been seen in everything from Titanic to Oliver Stone’s W. to Fantastic Four and its sequel. Meanwhile, the beautiful Parkinson has done work on Where the Wild Things Are and Wolverine. I got to sit down with them to discuss acting method, the sun coast and on-screen scalpings. 2011 sees its first big filmed-in-3D release this Friday with Sanctum. Today Universal sent over 5 clips to give you a taste of the claustrophobic action. Produced by James Cameron and filmed on the same PACE system he used for Avatar, Sanctum tells the true story of a group of cave explorers who end up trapped in a cave in and must fight against claustrophobia, the ever rising current and even each other to make it out alive.

The trailer, synopsis, and new images for the adventure-thriller Sanctum have gone online. The film centers on a group of explorers who are forced to find their way through unexplored underwater caverns in order to reach the surface after a tropical storm blocks off their original exit. The movie looks like it could be a fun adventure flick. James Cameron is on board as an executive producer and, unsurprisingly, the film is in 3D.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer, images, and the official synopsis. The film stars Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge!), Rhys Wakefield (Broken Hill), Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four), Alice Parkinson (The Pacific), and Dan Wyllie (Animal Kingdom). Sanctum is slated to open on February 4, 2011.

In the wake of Disney’s purchase of Marvel this morning, Fox is hurrying to reboot a Marvel property is still owns: “Fantastic Four”. The franchise is one of four Fox owns in perpetuity, irrespective of Disney’s $4 billion deal, including “X-Men,” “Daredevil,” and “Silver Surfer.” Thought details are scant on the new project, a few names have been dropped. Those, and why this could be a good thing after the jump.
