by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 20th, 2011 at 12:55 pm

FX has sent out a press release laying out their fall schedule.  The network’s fall season will kick off on Tuesday, September 9th at 10pm with the 90-minute season premiere of Sons of Anarchy.  On Thursday, September 15th at 10pm, the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will begin.  FX’s newest show, American Horror, will premiere on Wednesday, October 5th at 10pm.  The following night at 10:30pm, the new season of The League begins.  Finally, Archer will get a special three-week run starting on Thursday September 15th in hopes that it can expand its audience by having It’s Always Sunny as its lead-in.  New episodes of Archer will air on September 15, 22, and 29th and then will return for its new season in earnest (although the word “earnest” should never be used when writing about Archer) in early 2012 with a 13-episode season.

Wrapping up filming on its 7th season, likely to debut in September on FX, about a dozen online outlets were invited to hang out on the set and chat with the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while they were shooting their season finale. After observing a couple of scenes being shot, which were connected to the baby storyline from Season 6, and taking a tour of the sets, which included the very recognizable Paddy’s Pub, we were treated to a delicious catered lunch and then brought into a conference room to wait for the cast.

Show creator/executive producer/star Rob McElhenney, who has put on 50 pounds for story purposes, was joined by co-stars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito for a nearly 45-minute chat, in which they talked about the darker tone, their jaunt to the Jersey Shore, guest stars, more serialized storytelling, themes of this season, the reason for the extreme weight gain, and their hope for a Season 8. Check out excerpts that highlight some of the stand-out points of the interview, and listen to the audio for the full conversation:

Last month, we found out Comedy Central and MTV Networks were putting together The Comedy Awards, a broadcast awards event to honor the best comedy films, actors, TV series, digital content and stand-up acts. The Comedy Awards will be taped on March 26th for a premiere on Sunday, April 10th which will be simultaneous broadcast on Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick At Nite. Now the nominations for the awards’ debut have finally been revealed, and they mostly hit the nail on the head. There’s love for big comedies like The Other Guys and Get Him to the Greek, but lower profile films like Cyrus and Tiny Furniture get some love too. Check out the full list of nominees after the jump.

IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA Season Six Review

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: September 14th, 2010 at 10:58 pm

its_always_sunny_in_philadelphia_season_six_slice

For five seasons (plus a Christmas special), It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been the flagship comedy on a network known for its edgy dramas.  Sunny remains on brand for FX by this virtue: you certainly can’t find anything like it on the broadcast networks, you probably can’t find anything comparable on the rest of basic cable, and even the unlimited bounds of premium cable systematically fail to espouse such depravity with such consistency.

There is a theoretical saturation point, where either I or the characters get too old for their antics.  Thank god it hasn’t come in season six, which continues to provide shameful joy in the four episodes FX sent over for review.  More after the jump:

Sunday Schedule Announced for 2010 San Diego Comic-Con; Highlights Include GLEE, SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL, and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

by Germain Lussier    Posted: July 11th, 2010 at 10:00 am

In terms of movie-related programming, the San Diego Comic-Con ends on Saturday. The schedule for Sunday, July 25th is now online and it’s “Kids’ Day”. That means there are a lot of Nickelodeon and Disney Channel panels as well as craft panels and screenings that are perfect for parents.

For geeks though, Sunday is all about picking up that last-minute collectible, walking the floor, or seeing some TV panels. Hall H isn’t even open on Sunday, so instead all eyes turn to the second biggest room, Ballroom 20, where the biggest panel of the day by far is the one for Glee. But that’s not all.  Smallville, Supernatural and Castle all will have presentations on Sunday too. And panels featuring Sons of Anarchy and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are pretty much guaranteed to slap Kids’ Day in the face.

You can check out the schedules for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at their corresponding link. Hit the jump for our highlights of the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con’s closing day.

Conan O’Brien May Be Coming to a Stage Near You!

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 19th, 2010 at 11:54 am

tonight_show_conan_o_brien_im_with_coco_image_01.jpgTeam Coco, get ready to re-raise your orange-and-white banners because The Wrap is reporting that Conan O’Brien is planning to hit the road and perform at venues across the country.  It’s a clever little work-around his NBC contract that prohibited him from appearing on television again until September.  And as Family Guy and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have shown, there’s a market for television shows to hit the road and play to live audiences.

Finally, Team Coco energy hasn’t subsided as fans are anxious to see if Conan will return to late night by signing a deal with Fox (TheWrap says face-to-face meeting are expected to begin by next month).  The insidious Tonight Show promos playing during the Winter Olympics aren’t helping as they’re using The Beatles’ “Get Back” to promote Jay Leno’s return.  The Beatles should not be used for evil.

As I said, don’t debate, buy tickets now before they’re gone!  Check out the poster I was sent for the event after the jump:

Interview with IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA Stars and Co-Creators Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney

Even from its pilot episode, “The Gang Gets Racist”, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been one of the most mean-spirited and offensive shows on television.  It’s also been one of the funniest, and it’s only gotten funnier, as well as more mean-spirited and offensive, over the last four seasons.  Now in its fifth season, the show has become one of FX’s biggest hits and they’ve even released a special Christmas episode, A Very Sunny Christmas, which is available now on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download.

Stars and co-creators Glenn Howerton (who plays Dennis Reynolds) and Rob McElhenney (who plays Mac) recently sat down for a conference call where they talk about the show’s success, the controversy surrounding the episode “The Great Recession” which prominently featured Dave & Busters and Coors Light, how they came to create A Very Sunny Christmas, and more.  Fans of the show should definitely check it out after the jump.

Except for the incredibly awkward Dave & Busters episode a couple weeks ago, the new season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has been meaner and funnier than ever before.  Last week’s episode was one of the best in the entire series.  Now, in an odd but delightful move, basic cable channel Comedy Central will syndicate the basic cable TV series from FX.  Hit the jump for more details and possibly little green ghouls.

Matt’s Preview for the New Season of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: September 17th, 2009 at 5:07 pm

slice_its_always_sunny_in_philadelphia_01.jpg

By a time a show reaches its fifth season, it’s in an awkward place.  It’s established what made it popular but if it keeps using that established trait, then the show gets stale, it dies, and too many shows avoid this natural selection by either indifferent audiences who don’t want any evolution in their show or by networks who are too scared to replace it with a new show that may not even build up an audience in the first place.

So where does “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” go?  We know it’s meaner than hell, features the most unlikable cast possible, and pushes its characters to unbelievable stupidity.  Well, as it turns out, they can perfect all this and then up their game by having the actors announce that they’ve just mastered comedic performance.  Hit the jump to find out why the newest season of TV’s meanest comedy may be its best yet.

IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA: A VERY SUNNY CHIRSTMAS on DVD/Blu-ray November 17th!

The best thing about the holiday’s is the unexpected surprises. And this one is no different, as I’ve just gotten word the hit FX show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has produced a Christmas special and it’s going to be released November 17th on DVD/Blu-ray! Since this is the first I’ve heard about this holiday themed episode, I’m sure it’s news to a lot of you as well. If you’re curious what it’s about, the synopsis and DVD cover art is after the jump:

FX Announces Premiere Date for the 5th Season of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

Alright, it’s time FX and the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” guys strike a new deal.  Getting only ten or twelve episodes out of the entire year isn’t enough.  You can’t lay a great comedy like “Wild Card, bitches!” on me and then sign off for the rest of the year.  I know it’s a tough show to make especially when you try to factor in scheduling Danny DeVito but there has to be a way to schedule these guys in for more than a measly few months out of the year, right?  They’re worth it, FX.  Cancel “Nip/Tuck” and throw your brilliant comedy series more money.

Until that happens, we’re just going to have to suffice with 12 new episodes of “It’s Always Sunny” which will debut on Thursday, September 17th at 10 PM.  That’s the same night that NBC is rolling out its Thursday night comedy line-up and frankly, watching “30 Rock” and then switching over to “It’s Always Sunny” is more laughter than a human being can sustain.  On second thought, maybe we should be grateful that we only have to survive 12 weeks of greatness.

FX also announced that the second season of “Sons of Anarchy” debuts on September 8th and the sixth season of “Nip/Tuck” debuts in October but I don’t care about either of those shows.  However, I already miss “The Shield”.
