After the leak of disconcerting photos of Johnny Depp in make-up on the set of Tim Burton’s adaptation of the 1960s cult TV series Dark Shadows, Warner Bros. has released a somewhat-reassuring image of the cast.  The look is unmistakably Burton with an emphasis on distinctive costumes (I would say they look retro but the movie is in the 1970s) and daunting architecture.  Oh, and there’s Helena Bonham Carter’s ridiculous bright orange hair and white pancake make-up because Burton clearly can’t help himself.  As for Depp, you’ll notice the whiteface and big blue sunglasses are gone, but this a promo shot and the set photos are from another scene in the movie where his character, vampire Barnabas Collins, has to go out into broad daylight.

Hit the jump to check out the full image along with the official synopsis and descriptions for some of the character.  The film also stars Chloe Moretz, Eva Green, Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, and Michelle Pfeiffer.  Dark Shadows opens May 11, 2012.

The cast for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln continues to amass greatness.  According to Deadline, Jackie Earle Haley will be the latest terrific actor to hop on board the Abraham Lincoln biopic.  Haley will play Vice President of the Confederacy Alexander Stephens (pictured above), who in 1861 proclaimed, “Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition.”  Charming.  And here’s a fun fact: despite being the Vice President of the Confederacy, Stephens was re-elected to Congress during Reconstruction.

Haley joins a cast that also features Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, James Spader, Walton Goggins, Tim Blake Nelson, and Lee Pace.  As we reported yesterday, Lincoln will focus on the last four months of Lincoln’s life and Spielberg plans to release the film in 2012 after the Presidential election.

Warner Bros. has announced that principal photography has begun on Tim Burton’s adaptation of the cult classic TV series  Dark Shadows.  While I’ve always found announcements about the start of production to be slightly baffling (Movie studio is making movies!  Will wonders never cease?!), they sometimes contain useful information.  In the case of this Dark Shadows announcement, there are two newsworthy items.  First up, Jonny Lee Miller (Dexter) has joined the cast which features Johnny Depp (of course), Helena Bonham Carter (again, of course), Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, and Jackie Earle Haley.

Secondly, Warner Bros. has also released the full synopsis which not only provides plot details (but nothing spoilery) but also details the relationship between all of the characters.  Hit the jump to check out the press release, which includes the synopsis.  Dark Shadows is set to open May 11, 2012.

Michelle Pfeiffer is in talks to join the cast of Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.  The film is an adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera of the same name.  Johnny Depp (who else) will star as Barnabas Collins, “a self-loathing vampire living in a Maine manor who is searching for his lost love.” According to Heat Vision, Pfeiffer is in negotiations for the role of “Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the reclusive matriarch of the Collins family which runs the Maine town. The character has not left the mansion since the disappearance of her husband a decade earlier.”  Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Helena Bonham Carter (again, who else) is in talks to play “Hoffman, a specialist in psychology and rare blood disorders who moves into Collinwood. While she initially is a threat to the vampire Barnabas, she eventually becomes his ally, who might be able to cure him of his thirst for blood.” Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green, and Bella Heathcote have signed on to the project in the previous weeks.

Pfeiffer recently signed on to costar in the romantic-comedy New Year’s Eve and Alex Kurtzman’s directorial debut Welcome to People starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks.  Pfeiffer previously played Catwoman in Burton’s 1992 film, Batman Returns.  Bonham Carter has costarred in six of Burton’s movies dating back to his remake of Planet of the Apes.

Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote (Neighbours) are in talks to join Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp.  As we previously reported, Depp will play vampire Barnabas Collins in Burton’s adaptation of the 1960s gothic TV series.  Deadline reports that Haley is up for the role of conman Willie Loomis who, in the series, attempts to swindle the Collins estate only to be turned into Barnabas’ lackey and whipping boy.  The role was originally played James Hall and later John Karlen.  As for Heathcote, she’s reportedly in negotiations for the role of Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate.  On the TV series, Victoria was played by Alexandra Moltke.

With filming set to begin in April, expect more casting news on this project in the days and weeks ahead.  The real news will be if Tim Burton decides to not cast Helena Bonham Carter.

Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, and Bailee Madison Join Kristen Bell in DANCE OF THE MIRLITONS

In August, we reported that Kristen Bell has signed on to the dark indie ballet comedy Dance of the Mirlitons.  Today, THR is reporting that Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, and Bailee Madison (Brothers) have joined the cast.  Per THR, the story centers on “an ambitious, slightly overweight ballerina (Madison) with an overbearing mother (Bell) who will stop at nothing to become a star. The girl enters a Mean Girls-type environment when she has to prove her worth in class.”  Moretz will play the Madison’s nemesis and the star ballerina of the class while Haley is “a subtly sadistic Russian ballet teacher of the highest order.”  Evan Greenberg wrote the script and will direct.

The project sounds like it could be a lot of fun.  It’s currently trying to close down the final piece of funding for a shoot next year.  Hit the jump for a refresher on the other projects these actors are currently attached to.

On Season 2 of the action-adventure drama Human Target, British actress Indira Varma joins the cast as Ilsa Pucci, a beautiful, sophisticated and recently widowed billionaire who seeks the help of Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) after the mysterious murder of her philanthropist husband. Impressed with Chance’s expertise, Ilsa offers to be his benefactor and a silent owner of his protection agency, but it quickly becomes clear that this woman might not remain so silent.

During a recent interview, Indira Varma talked about being a part of her first American television series, working in Vancouver and juggling her career and family. She also talked about what it was like to work with Idris Elba on her BBC America series Luther, premiering on October 17th. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

The DC comics-based, action-adventure series Human Target centers on Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a unique private security expert who is hired when a threat can’t be eliminated through normal means of protection. Making amends for his former life as a mercenary and hired assassin, Chance’s only focus now is saving his clients’ lives, even if it means placing himself directly in the line of fire.

During a recent interview, co-stars Mark Valley and Jackie Earle Haley talked about returning to the series, adding a new female dynamic to the team, and how everything will be bigger and better in season two. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Blu-ray Review

by Andre Dellamorte    Posted: October 10th, 2010 at 3:42 am

As a child of the 1980’s, it’s been funny to watch the majority of the entertainment of that era either sequelized or remade. Whether it’s trying to emulate John Hughes’s tone in a teen driven romantic comedy, or the Indiana Jones sequel, or the birth of comic book movies, it all feels very connected to that decade. For horror fans, it seems every major and minor title is getting the remake treatment, with Wes Craven’s classic films of the period at the top of the list. Craven’s classics Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes were already done (and reasonably well), so it was only a matter of time before someone finally got to Freddy Kruger. Platinum Dunes, the remakers behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror and Friday the 13th put Samuel Bayer behind the camera, and made the smart choice in giving the iconic hat, sweater and finger-knives glove to Jackie Earle Haley. Random teens (headed up by Rooney Mara) are terrorized by Kruger in their dreams for an unknown reason, which become evident in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and my review of the blu-ray follows after the jump.

SDCC 2010: Mark Valley, Chi McBride, Jackie Earle Haley and Showrunner Matthew Miller Talk HUMAN TARGET

by Nico    Posted: July 26th, 2010 at 8:08 am

For those that don’t know, Human Target started as a DC Comics comic book.  Fact.  It was brought to television last year with a trio of talented actors at its core — Mark Valley as Christopher Chase, Chi McBride as Winston and Jackie Earle Haley as Guerrero.  This season a new showrunner, Matthew Miller, takes the reins fresh off his work on Chuck.  We got a chance to speak with all four and talk about season two. They talked about the storyline, casting, and a lot more:

Tuesday night was the world premiere of Platinum Dunes/Warner Bros. remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.  The premiere was held at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood, and as you might have noticed with the amount of interviews I’ve been posting, I was on the red carpet.  So rather than flood the entire front page with interviews, I’ve grouped the last four into this one article.  If you hit the jump, you can check out Director Samuel Bayer, Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner and Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form talk about being at the premiere and answering a ton of questions.

Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara and Kyle Gallner Interview A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.jpg

As most of you know, opening this Friday is New Line/Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.  Over the past few months we’ve been covering the movie extensively with a set report, on set interviews with Jackie Earle Haley and producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and a few weeks ago I spoke to Katie Cassidy / Thomas Dekker and Rooney Mara / Kyle Gallner at WonderCon.

Anyway, yesterday was the Los Angeles press day for the film and I got to speak with director Samuel Bayer, producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, and I also got to speak with Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara & Kyle Gallner in a junket setting.  Since I spoke to them a few weeks ago, I used the time to try and ask new questions.  Also, I’ve now seen the film, so I could ask more specific things.  Hit the jump to check it out.  I’ve time indexed the interview so you can watch what interests you:

Samuel Bayer has a long history directing music videos and commercials.  While his resume is way too long to list in this intro, some of his famous videos are Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, Blind Melon’s No Rain, almost all of Green Day’s American Idiot videos, and tons of others since 1991.  It’s really an impressive list.

Anyway, he finally made his first feature and it’s New Line’s/Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The movie stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz.

To help promote the film, I sat down with Bayer earlier today to talk about his experiences directing the movie, what will be on the Blu-ray/DVD, how does he feel about directors cuts, what will he do next, and a lot more.  As always, I’ve time indexed the interview so you can watch the parts you want.  Hit the jump to check it out:
