Director Bryan Singer has shared yet another image from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and this time we get our first look at one of the returning castmembers from X-Men: First Class. It appears that James McAvoy’s young Professor X has gone through a rather dramatic change in appearance, as Singer’s caption on the photo of “Serpico” pretty much sums up McAvoy’s shaggy, 1970s look. McAvoy’s Professor X still has plenty of hair and is sporting a slightly darker look than he did in First Class, and we also get to see him in his new wheelchair.
Hit the jump to take a look at the image, and if you missed them check out Singer’s images of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Halle Berry as Storm, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and Shawn Ashmore as Iceman. The film also stars Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Ian McKellan, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, and Peter Dinklage. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.

Lionsgate has released a red-band trailer for director Jon S. Baird‘s Filth, the adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s popular crime novel about a crooked and devious police officer who goes on cocaine binges and has rampant sex ventures as part of his annual vacation to Amsterdam. The film stars James McAvoy as Bruce Robertson, the chauvinist cop who is enlisted to solve a murder while also trying to stop his colleagues from taking his much-coveted promotion in the force. The trailer lives up to its red-band classification. With an abundance of profanity from a visibly coked-out Robertson, plenty of coercive sex scenes and brief nudity, the film is sure to live up to its name. Just watching this trailer made me feel filthy. Personally, I haven’t read the novel, but I hear a tapeworm is used as a narrative device and now I’m highly intrigued.
Filth will open in September in the UK, a US release date is yet to be announced. The film also stars Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots, and Jim Broadbent. Hit the jump to watch the red-band trailer and to view the newly-released poster.

Opening this weekend is Danny Boyle’s new film, Trance. The hypnotic crime thriller centers on James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as Simon, a criminal mastermind behind an art heist who develops amnesia and forgets where he stashed the goods. The mob boss, played by Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), is none too happy with this and resorts to torture to get his information. Rosario Dawson (Sin City) also stars as a hypnotist who attempts to jumpstart Simon’s memory in another way. For more on the film, here’s the red band trailer, some posters, and everything we’ve posted on the film.
At the Los Angeles press day, I landed a video interview with McAvoy. We talked about how he still likes to audition for a role, how he prepared for this particular role, his recent string of high profile projects, the American version of Shameless (he was on the British version during the first two seasons), and more. James McAvoy is currently doing press for his upcoming British crime-thriller Welcome to the Punch, and he was asked about a few franchise films. The biggest question, naturally, was about X-Men: Days of Future Past. McAvoy said he hadn’t read the script yet (he signed on for multiple movies, so it doesn’t matter if he’s read the screenplay yet or not) because he’s busy doing Macbeth on London’s West End. However, he says he “honestly can’t wait to read it and find out what I’m doing, but I’ve just got no time right now.” Spoiler alert: He’s going to put his index finger and his middle finger to his forehead when using telepathy. But when he finds out that Professor X has joined a murderball league, that’s when things are going to get interesting.
Hit the jump for what McAvoy had to say about his involvement in The Crow reboot and the status on Wanted 2.

A new clip and featurette are now available for writer/director Eran Creevy’s Welcome to the Punch, a London-set crime thriller starring James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes). The picture pits the respective dogged detective and master criminal against each other when an incident forces the latter to return to London. The new clip, from the beginning of the film, shows off that inciting event while the featurette gives a little more backstory behind it.
Also starring Andrea Riseborough (Happy-Go-Lucky), Welcome to the Punch opens March 15th in the U.K., March 27th in the States. Hit the jump to watch the new clip and featurette.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby has an intriguing premise. It is a double feature that explores “how a married couple in New York City deals with an emotional, life-altering experience, from two different perspectives.” The perspective of the husband (James McAvoy), a restaurateur, is seen in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him, while the story of the wife (Jessica Chastain), who is going back to school, is told in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her. The first images from the film have been released, and we can see one of the ways writer/director Ned Benson has chosen to approach the project.

One thing’s for certain when it comes to the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past: director Bryan Singer has put together one hell of a cast. Not only are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult reprising their roles from First Class, but Singer is tackling a beloved comics storyline that involves time travel and dystopian futures, so he’s also bringing back a bounty of characters from previous X-Men films like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, and Ellen Page.
Though the ensemble is looking great (with Peter Dinklage being the latest addition), McAvoy recently let slip that the young and old versions of Professor X likely won’t be seen interacting onscreen. Hit the jump for more.

The Crow has not had a pleasant relationship with the big screen. Based on James O’Barr‘s comic book series about a man coming back from the dead to avenge his fiancée’s murder, Alex Proyas‘ 1994 adaptation was a hit, but it also resulted in the death of star Brandon Lee, who died from an injury he sustained during filming. There were three sequels plus a short-lived TV series with different actors playing The Crow. Now according to Bloody Disgusting, James McAvoy may follow in the goth footsteps of Lee, Vincent Pérez, Mark Dacascos, Eric Mabius, and Edward Furlong.

A new red-band trailer for Danny Boyle’s Trance is now available. The crime-thriller stars James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as Simon, a criminal mastermind behind an art heist who develops amnesia and forgets where he stashed the goods. The mob boss, played by Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), is none too happy with this and resorts to torture to get his information. Rosario Dawson (Sin City) also stars as a hypnotist who attempts to jumpstart Simon’s memory in another way. This trailer certainly earns its red-band status with a combination of bloody torture, sex and violence and looks to be another Boyle classic.
Trance will open on March 27th in the U.K. and April 5th in the U.S. Hit the jump to watch the new red-band trailer.

Director Danny Boyle’s next feature finally has a U.S. release date. Fox Searchlight announced today that Trance will open stateside on April 5th, a date that the Sandra Bullock/Melissa McCarthy comedy The Heat recently vacated for the dog days of summer. Boyle’s film centers on an art heist that goes sideways when its mastermind (James McAvoy) gets amnesia and can’t remember where he stashed the loot. Vincent Cassel co-stars as mob boss leading the heist gang, and Rosario Dawson plays a hypnotist who tries to get the memories out of McAvoy’s character.
Currently the only other wide release scheduled for April 5th is Jurassic Park 3D, so it seems like a smart move on Fox Searchlight’s part. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and to check out the new hypnotizing poster.

Four posters have been released for Danny Boyle‘s upcoming thriller, Trance. The story centers on an art heist that goes sideways when its mastermind (James McAvoy) gets amnesia and can’t remember where he stashed the loot. Vincent Cassel co-stars as mob boss leading the heist gang, and Rosario Dawson plays a hypnotist who tries to get the memories out of McAvoy’s character. Three of the posters provide some nice optical illusions, and I don’t know if another recent major film has tried this other than Men in Black 3 and The Prestige.
Hit the jump to check out the U.K. posters. Trance opens in the U.K. on March 27th. A U.S. release is expected in the near future.

The first trailer for Danny Boyle‘s crime-thriller Trance has gone online. The trailer shows off the vibrant, twisty cinematography that has become a trademark of Boyle’s work, and McAvoy looks like he’s at the top of his game. My only problem with the trailer is that I think it might give away too much of the plot.
