Teaser Trailer for Supernatural Airplane Thriller 7500 Starring Leslie Bibb and Ryan Kwanten

Air travel is already annoying enough without supernatural terror going down.  There’s not enough leg room, they now charge you for every little thing (in our lifetime, major airlines will charge you to use the bathroom), and it does everything in its power to diminish the magic of air travel.  I suppose we’ll have to settle for dark magic or whatever freaky thing is attacking the passengers of 7500, the new film from Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge).  I really hope that it’s attacking because some guy didn’t turn off his electronic device during take-off. Please let that be the reason.

Jamie Chung Talks Quentin Tarantino-produced Kung Fu Movie THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS Directed by RZA

While on the set of Takashi Shimizu’s upcoming aviation thriller 7500 I got to sit down with a few other journalists and Jamie Chung to discuss her role. We’ll have the full interview and a set visit write up closer to the film’s release. Today we have a short update from Chung on Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and his Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino produced Kung-Fu film, The Man with the Iron Fists. The movie takes place in feudal China and centers on a small village’s weapon-maker who must defend its peoples. RZA wrote the pic alongside Roth, and the cast also includes Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, and Pam Grier. Chung discussed the film’s original four-hour cut, the idea of splitting it in half, RZA’s famous obsession with obscure Asian action films and reveals that they’re eyeing an August 2012 release. Jamie Chung, Christian Serratos, and Scout Taylor-Compton Join Thriller 7500

A trio of actresses have joined the cast of The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu’s thriller 7500. Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch), Christian Serratos (The Twilight Saga), and Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween) have joined the cast of the pic, which centers on a group of passengers who begin to experience supernatural phenomena after a passenger mysteriously dies during the international flight. Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Amy Smart, and Leslie Bibb (Zookeeper) were recently set to star.

Heat Vision reports that Chung will play a newly-engaged flight attendant on her first flight, Taylor-Compton plays a passenger who has a “unique perspective on death”, and Serratos will play a woman who shares a secret with her boyfriend. Lost writer Craig Rosenberg penned the screenplay, and production is set to begin soon.

First Trailer for PREMIUM RUSH Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon

The first trailer for co-writer/director David Koepp’s (Ghost Town) action/thriller Premium Rush is now available online. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Jamie Chung, Dania Ramirez and The Daily Show‘s Aasif Mandvi, the film centers on Wilee (Gordon-Levitt), a New York bicycle messenger who has a routine delivery turn into a life or death situation. Based on the trailer, Premium Rush looks to be a stylish thriller and while some of the dialogue may seem a little heavy-handed, I’m willing to take a chance on anything that features both Gordon-Levitt and Shannon.

SUCKER PUNCH Blu-ray Review

Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch hit theaters in March earlier this year, but it’s road to theaters felt like watching a train hit the emergency break. The year before it came out, the film wowed comic-con audiences, and Warner Brothers had set visits – Snyder was still seen as a wonder boy, even if Watchmen didn’t take it home. But by the week of release, Warners couldn’t hold it in the bag: Sucker Punch is a weird movie that doesn’t totally work for a number of reasons.

It’s one of the great “I made a big hit movie, I’m going to go make my art” films that fails in interesting ways. And now there’s a director’s cut, which hopes to solve some of those problems. Emily Browning plays Babydoll, a girl with a traumatic past who’s put in an insane asylum with a bunch of other girls, and leads a fantasy life that transposes her inmates and doctors into dancers and pimps. My review of the Blu-ray and director’s cut of Sucker Punch follow after the jump.

Jamie Chung and Scoot McNairy to Star in EDEN, an Indie Drama About Human Trafficking

Most recently seen playing Ed Helms’ fiancée in The Hangover Part II, Jamie Chung is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces. Early roles in such clunkers as Dragonball: Evolution and Sorority Row led Chung to small parts in the widely viewed Adam Sandler/Kevin James flicks I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Grown Ups. Now, Chung has a chance to topline in Eden, an indie flick directed by Megan Griffiths (The Off Hours), in a true-to-life story about a Korean-American girl who is abducted by human traffickers and sold into prostitution. Eden tells not only the story of her abduction, but also how she spent two years of imprisonment manipulating and influencing her captors to gain power and stay alive.

Scoot McNairy, who starred in Griffith’s The Off Hours, is in negotiations to co-star alongside Chung. The script, written by Griffiths and Richard B. Phillips is based on a story by Phillips and Chong Kim. Shooting is planned for August of this year in Seattle and eastern Washington state. THE HANGOVER PART II Review

The original Hangover hit like a bolt from the blue.  Good R-rated comedies are few and far between (although this summer we’ll be getting a bunch of R-rated comedies, but there’s no telling how many will actually be good) and the 2009 comedy brought enough surprises into its fast-paced narrative that the concept of blending a detective story with raunchy laughs worked like a charm.  It’s ironic that The Hangover Part II bases so many of its jokes on shock value and yet clings so dearly to the exact same formula of the original, right down to the plot beats and character actions.  More of the same isn’t necessarily a bad thing and the sequel still manages to deliver laughs, but the stale stench of been-there, done-that pervades the entire film despite the vibrant background of Bangkok.

Casting Call: Jamie Chung, Julie Bowen, Connie Britton and More in Talks for KNIFE FIGHT; Joey King Joins OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL; Katrina Bowden in AMERICAN REUNION

We’ve got a few casting stories for you tonight. First up, Jamie Chung has joined Rob Lowe in the dark political flick Knife Fight, with Julie Bowen, Connie Britton, Jennifer Morrison, Rebecca Mader and Titus Welliver all in talks to join the cast. And yes, that’s three actors from Lost in one movie (Bowen, Mader and Welliver). Lowe plays a political crisis specialist who plays hard and tough in dealing with various October campaign surprises.

Variety reports that Chung will play his assistant, Bowen plays an ambitious TV reporter sleeping with Lowe’s character for scoops, Britton plays an earthy liberal eyeing a run for public office, Welliver plays a private investigator working for Lowe, Mader plays a masseuse/prostitute with a penchant for blackmail and Morrison plays one of her classmates. Bill Guttentag is directing, with production set to start next month with an eye towards an October 2012 release date, just in time for election season. Over 30 New Images from THE HANGOVER PART II

Warner Bros. has released a slew of images from The Hangover Part II. A few of them we’ve seen before, but a number of them are brand new. While I like the idea behind releasing a bunch of images, I hope they’re not spoiling a good deal of the film.

SUCKER PUNCH Premiere Celebrity Images

For the premiere of Zack Snyder’s fantasy thriller Sucker Punch, the stars of the film gathered under a tent housing the black carpet, in order to escape the rain and keep their gowns dry. The film’s leading ladies – Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone and Jamie Chung – were ultra-glam, as they came out to support the Watchmen and 300 director, who will next be taking on Superman: Man of Steel.

Joining the film’s main cast, co-stars Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn and Oscar Isaac, mingled at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood with Watchmen star Malin Akerman, Diane Lane (seen next as Martha Kent), Red Riding Hood star Max Irons, Scream 4 star Emma Roberts and Juno Temple, who will be in The Dark Knight Rises. SUCKER PUNCH Review

Imagination does not exist in a vacuum.  We’re inspired by experiences both internal and external.  We build our dreams on the dreams of others and if we possess a brilliant imagination, then we can transform these ideas into something fresh and new.  With his new film Sucker Punch, director Zack Snyder shows he not only misunderstands how imagination works, he also has no understanding of inspiration, empowerment, or joy.  The movie swims through the wet dreams of a teenage boy but pretends at higher aspirations of thoughtful escapism and transcendent determination.  For a movie where dragons battle fighter jets and teenage girls in skimpy outfits take down samurai golems, Sucker Punch is a surprisingly dull and self-serious affair that can’t be bothered to develop its heroine, but wants a round of applause every time she defeats a CGI monstrosity.  Despite all of the energy put into the stunning vistas and designs, nothing in Sucker Punch‘s visuals comes close to the majesty of its delusions of grandeur.

With director Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch opening this weekend, I got to sit down with most of the cast to talk about the film.  As the synopsis says, Sucker Punch is an “epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.” The film stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn, and Oscar Isaac.

During my interview with Malone, Hudgens and Chung, we talked about how everyone bonded off set when they were filming in Vancouver, the training and lack of sweets and soda on set, deleted scenes, future projects like The Hangover 2, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Jack and Diane, and we also talked about doing karaoke (they told a great story).  Hit the jump to watch and look for a new video interview for Sucker Punch everyday this week.

Warner Bros. has released the full press kit for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.  Included are 45 high resolution images of Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn, and Oscar Isaac.  Many of the images are new.  Sucker Punch opens March 25th.  Check them out after the jump:

I wonder what the kids who grew up watching Vanessa Hudgens in High School Musical are going to think.  That’s because in writer-director Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Hudgens is playing a role that’s a complete 180 from her work in those Disney films and I think she’s going surprise everyone (in a good way).  As most of you know, Sucker Punch tells the story of a young girl (Emily Browning) who, when sent to an insane asylum, embarks on a journey to freedom that consistently blurs the line between real and imaginary.  You can watch a trailer here.

Anyhow, late in 2009, I got to visit the set with a few other online reporters when the production was filming in Vancouver.  While there I got to speak with most of the cast and after the jump you can either read or listen to my on set interview with Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung.  They talk about the revealing costumes, the different realities in the film, the dance numbers, training for the role (which included training with Navy SEALS), shooting guns, and so much more.  Like I said in my set report, if you’re a fan of Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) – especially Zack Snyder’s action sequences – you’re going to absolutely love what he has in store for Sucker Punch.
