Hilarious New Trailer for EASTBOUND & DOWN Season Three

“Look at y’all jumping around like a bunch of child molesters at Chuck E. Cheese.” Damn it’s good to have Kenny Powers back, or at least know that his return to HBO for the third (and maybe final) season of Eastbound & Down is coming on February 19th, less than a month away. Now a new trailer straight from HBO promises a great duo between Danny McBride and Jason Sudeikis as Powers’ new best friend and fellow ball player and we catch a quick glimpse of the return of Will Ferrell, Steve Little, and John Hawkes too. Set Photos from NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH, LOVELACE, DOG FIGHT, and FILTH

In this edition of “Photos from the Set,” we have:

• Neighborhood Watch – Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade star as a group of neighbors who form a local watch group and end up stumbling onto an alien plot to destroy the world.
• Lovelace – Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgard star as Linda Lovelace and her abusive husband Chuck Traynor in the biopic about the star at the center of the porn phenomenon Deep Throat.
• Dog Fight – Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star as rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district.
• Filth – James McAvoy, Jamie Bell and Alan Cumming star in the adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel about a malicious Scottish police officer.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to Script HORRIBLE BOSSES 2; Bateman, Day, and Sudeikis Expected to Return

I placed Horrible Bosses on my Top 10 of 2011 because not only was it hilarious, but because it had staying power.  New Line Cinema is now moving forward on a sequel and have re-hired original writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.  According to THR, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis are also expected to return, and New Line is also trying to bring back director Seth Gordon.  I’m glad Daley, Goldstein, and possibly Gordon are returning, but what sells me on a sequel is brining back the Bateman, Day, and Sudeikis.  I don’t mean to diminish the work of the screenwriters or director, but Horrible Bosses works because of the chemistry between those guys.  I have no idea where a sequel could go, but as long as the lead trio is back, I’ll stay interested.

Bosses was a strong hit with a worldwide gross of $209 million off a $35 million budget.  Daley and Goldstein have stayed hot with their screenwriting; the duo was hired to pen the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and they also wrote the upcoming comedy Burt Wonderstone starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey.

Jason Sudeikis Joins Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in DOG FIGHT

Jason Sudeikis has joined Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in Jay Roach‘s political comedy Dog Fight.  The movie, formerly titled Southern Rivals, is about rival politicians (Ferrell and Galifianakis) in a small congressional district in South Carolina (hence the original title).  THR doesn’t say what role Sudeikis will play but hopefully it won’t be the smarmy lothario he played three times this year (Hall Pass, Horrible Bosses, and A Good Old Fashioned Orgy).  The film also stars Sarah Baker (In Gayle We Trust) and Katherine LaNasa (Valentine’s Day).  Filming is set to begin in mid-November in New Orleans for an August 2012 release.

While it’s encouraging that Shawn Harwell (Eastbound & Down) and frequent Ferrell collaborator Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) wrote the script, I’m wary of Roach.  He botched the dark comedy in Dinner for Schmucks, but maybe he’ll fare better at politics since he directed the election dramas Recount and the upcoming Game Change.

A GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY Review

I didn’t want to write this review because it would involve me giving more thought to repulsive, selfish characters who populate a comedy that’s almost entirely devoid of laughs.  There’s something fascinating about a movie that sets up jokes and then forgets to deliver a punchline.  And because awful character delivering non-jokes isn’t enough, the film is saddled with limp, thoughtless direction that misses every opportunity for a laugh.   When A Good Old Fashioned isn’t being clichéd, it’s being dull, and sometimes it’s both, but it’s hardly ever funny.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has sent us over seven new images from A Good Old Fashioned Orgy.  The movie is about a bunch of friends who have had a lot of good times at a beach house but when the house is about to be sold, they decide to go out with a (gang)bang.  The ensemble cast features Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Bibb, Lake Bell, Michelle Borth, Nick Kroll, Tyler Labine, Angela Sarafyan, Lindsay Sloane, Martin Starr, Lucy Punch, and Will Forte.

Trailer for A GOOD OLD FASHIONED ORGY Starring Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte

The trailer for writers/directors Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck’s comedy A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is now available online. Starring Jason Sudeikis, Will Forte, Lucy Punch, Leslie Bibb, Lindsay Sloane, Tyler Labine, and Lake Bell, the film tells the story of a 30 year-old man/child (Sudeikis) who decides to throw one last bash at the Hampton residence his parents are on the verge of selling. Judging from the trailer, the pic almost looks like an uninterrupted barrage of partying and general immaturity. In short, I’m looking forward to it. That said, I can’t help but wonder how I can get my hands on one of those “Labor Day Orgy” t-shirts.

HALL PASS Blu-ray Review

It was obvious that Warner Bros. was hoping for Hall Pass to be the Farrelly Brothers’ long-awaited comeback.  Starring Owen Wilson, up-and-comer Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, and The Office‘s Jenna Fischer, Hall Pass failed to become the box-office juggernaut that some of the siblings’ other films became (see also:  the massive $176m domestic gross for There’s Something About Mary), but was their latest unfairly ignored upon release?  Now that Hall Pass is available on Blu-ray and DVD, everyone who passed on the film earlier this year can find out if the Farrelly Brothers’ latest is more Dumb and Dumber…or more Stuck on You.  Find out what we thought after the jump, folks…

TV Casting Call: Jason Sudeikis Heads EASTBOUND & BOUND, Gwendoline Christie Joins GAME OF THRONES, Nick Stahl for HOUSE OF LIES

Here’s a trio of cable TV casting coming at you right now. First up, as if HBO’s outrageous comedy series Eastbound & Down needed to be anymore hilarious, Variety reports Saturday Night Live cast member and Going the Distance star Jason Sudeikis is getting a recurring role on the show. The comedian will play Shane, one of Kenny Powers’ (Danny McBride) new friends, likely back in Shelby, South Carolina since *SPOILER ALERT* he returned back home in the second season finale. I’m always happy to see Sudeikis show up in any comedy, so he’s definitely a welcome addition to the cast.  For details on the new cast members for Game of Thrones and House of Lies, hit the jump

HORRIBLE BOSSES Review

For an R-rated comedy, the humor doesn’t always have to be about shock value and gross-out gags (although those certainly don’t hurt).  It can be about strong dialogue and fantastic performances and Seth Gordon’s Horrible Bosses manages exactly that.  It’s the fourth major R-rated comedy to hit this summer and it may be the best one so far.  While it lacks the warmth and maturity of Bridesmaids, it’s also a tighter, sharper narrative that keeps a laser-like focus on delivering non-stop jokes and never letting the plot stall.  But more than its pacing, Horrible Bosses thrives because every actor is working at the top of their game.  Leads Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis each maintain their own comic style but find a way to make those styles work in concert with each other.  Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrell relish playing the eponymous bosses with Farrell and especially Aniston getting to show audiences a new side of their acting talents.  The result of the sharp writing, profanity-laden humor, and killer performances make Horrible Bosses one of the year’s most consistent comedies.

Red Band Trailer for HORRIBLE BOSSES

A red band trailer for Seth Gordon’s Horrible Bosses has been released. While the green band trailer has some good laughs, this trailer gives a better idea of how the film’s gonna play out. The jokes are spot-on, and every member of the fantastic cast is bringing their A-game. Whoever put Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis together is a genius. I can’t wait to finally see the whole film.

With director Seth Gordon’s (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters) comedy Horrible Bosses opening July 8, Warner Bros. has provided us with six clips.  As most of you know, the film has an all-star cast featuring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jamie Foxx and it’s about a group of friends that decide to work together to kill their bosses.

While I haven’t seen the film, I’ve spoken to a few people that have and they’re all telling me it’s great.  And after being on the set last year and laughing my ass off, I believe it.  Hit the jump for the clips, and here’s my on set interviews with Day, Bateman and Sudeikis, Gordon, and producer Jay Stern.

When you put Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live) and Jason Bateman (Teen Wolf Too, Silver Spoons) in a movie together, you automatically have my interest.  When you add Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland and Julie Bowen to the cast of Horrible Bosses, it becomes a must see film.  In the film – which arrives next month – Bateman, Sudeikis & Day play friends that decide to kill their bosses who are played by Spacey, Farrell & Aniston. With this being a comedy, needless to say, nothing goes according to plan.

Last summer, I got to visit the set while the production was filming in Woodland Hills, California.  During the visit, I got to participate in a very small roundtable interview with Day, Sudeikis and Bateman.  They talked about the great cast, real life bosses, their characters and the relationships with one another, filming with digital cameras and how that changes the way you can do a scene, ruining takes from laughing, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to the conversation.

HORRIBLE BOSSES Set Visit

I’m trying not to ruin the take from laughing.  Thankfully, all the reporters on the Horrible Bosses set visit are also on the verge of losing their shit, so I think they won’t throw us all out if we mess it up.  As I look around the converted TGI Friday’s in Woodland Hills, California, I realize the entire crew else is getting ready to burst, and it’s at this moment that I start to think director Seth Gordon’s movie might be awesome and a huge surprise.

But let me back up a second.

Late last summer I got to visit the set of Horrible Bosses.  As most of you know, the film has an all-star cast featuring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jamie Foxx and it’s about a group of friends that decide to work together to kill their bosses.  While Warner Bros. could have played it safe and released a boring PG-13 movie, I’m happy to report Horrible Bosses is a hard R and based on what I saw on set it’s going for the jugular in terms of raunchy comedy.  For more on the film and what I saw and learned on set, hit the jump.

6 New Posters for HORRIBLE BOSSES [Updated]

Three new posters for the upcoming Seth Gordon (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters) comedy Horrible Bosses have landed online. The sheets feature stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day posing the question “Ever Wish Your Boss Were Dead?” to which I answer an emphatic “No way! Well, okay, maybe once…” In addition to the trio of actors on display here, Horrible Bosses also stars Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jamie Foxx. The film hits theaters on July 8th and while I’ve heard really good things about it so far, I can’t help but wonder why Aniston wanting to sleep with you is such a horrible burden that you would hire Foxx to take her out. Anyways, now back to my suspension of disbelief.
