It is really difficult to reboot a franchise that was already kind of boring to begin with. The original Green Hornet 60s TV series, though it boasts incomparable Bruce Lee as Kato, was deadly dull. In fact, the only episode that is somewhat worthwhile isn’t an episode of The Green Hornet at all, but a Batman episode called “Batman’s Satisfaction” (1967). In the story, our visiting heroes Green Hornet (Van Williams) and Kato (Bruce Lee) battle the Dynamic Duo (Adam West and Burt Ward), Kato squaring off against Robin. God bless Burt Ward, but after seeing Bruce Lee fight just once, even pulling his punches for the camera, it’s pretty clear who would win the battle. The Batman scene ends in a draw, but was originally written with Robin prevailing over Kato. Upon seeing the original script Bruce Lee refused to allow Kato to lose the fight to Robin, and it was rewritten the way it was shot, even-Stevens. As if. My review of the Green Hornet remake starring Seth Rogen and Jay Chou after the jump:

Last year on our podcast, Running Dialogue, /Film’s Russ Fischer described Iron Man 2 as a “happy drunk”, which was a fitting description for the sloppy, yet joyful superhero movie. I would like to steal his phrase and begrudgingly give him credit as I think Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet is a happy drunk as well as a happy stoner and at times a happy cokehead. The film is colorful, vibrant, and has enough of Gondry’s stylistic flourishes without becoming oppressively whimsical. Even when the film starts to drag or the plot becomes muddled and we’re forced to spend time with underdeveloped characters, Seth Rogen’s infectious enthusiasm keeps the mood of the picture light and fun even though his character is an unethical, egotistical jerk. The Green Hornet is a film that succeeds in spite of itself and it’s a happy drunk that won’t leave you with too much of a hangover (despite the unnecessary 3D).

Sometimes you have to pinch yourself. I had to do just that last month when I got a chance to drive Black Beauty from Columbia Pictures’ upcoming The Green Hornet. The decked-out 1965 Chrysler Imperial has been touring the country in promotion of the film, and they made a stop in the Dallas area with an offer for press members to drive the vehicle. Even amidst a packed week, I couldn’t resist the offer so I went out to the Carl’s Jr. to cover the event. Hit the jump to check out a video from inside the car as I take it for a brief spin, tons of pictures, and highlights of my discussion with the handler of the Black Beauty.

With Sony’s The Green Hornet arriving in theaters this weekend, I got to sit down with the cast and filmmakers yesterday on the Sony lot in Culver City. Since I spoke to so many people, I’m breaking up the interviews and posting a new one every day this week. To start things off, I’ve got Jay Chou (Kato).
While many of you might think Seth Rogen is the star of The Green Hornet, when Sony advertises the film in Asia, they’ll be pushing Chou. That’s because Chou is like the Justin Timberlake of Asia, as he’s sold more than 28 million albums worldwide. In addition, he writes his own music, produces and directs his music videos, and he’s even made a feature film. Again, very famous.
Anyway, when I sat down with Chou, we talked about how he had just performed the night before, was he nervous to take on the role, his rehearsal process, the language barrier, does he enjoy being anonymous in Los Angeles, and a lot more. Hit the jump to watch:

Sony has released 7 movie clips from Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet which stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Tom Wilkinson. If you’re asking how can Seth Rogen be an action hero, these clips will show you. As you’ll see, The Green Hornet is a twist on the superhero genre since it’s the sidekick who does most of the fighting.
I caught an early screening of the film and liked it a lot. While there was some bad buzz online awhile ago, I promise you the film is going to surprise you. Not only does The Green Hornet feature a number of impressive action scenes, it’s really funny. Hit the jump for the clips. Look for video interviews with the cast next week:

We have been tracking development on The Green Hornet for a couple years now, and boy has it been a fun ride. A bumpy one, too, but star Seth Rogen and his co-writer Evan Goldberg have pushed through the mire every step of the way to deliver their passion project. Stephen Chow has to drop out? Sign Michel Gondry! Nicolas Cage doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore? Get me Christoph Waltz! Think we need to escape the holiday shuffle? Awesome, we’ll be a hit in January!
It’s finally here, and I have every reason to expect an enjoyable final product in theaters on January 14, 2011. The last leg of the promotional push from Columbia has turned inward — first a featurette in late December, now some neat behind-the-scenes photos. Check out the images after the jump.

One of the most anticipated movies of the new year, The Green Hornet is set to kick off 2011 with a blend of adventure and director Michel Gondry’s habitual touch of eccentricity, if the various artworks are anything to go by.
Remember when Collider gave you an exclusive sneak peek of The Green Hornet’s character posters back in November? They have now officially debuted on Korean billboards, while the Spanish and French posters resemble the US ones. Hit the jump to take a look.

Sony has released a new featurette for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet. If you’re asking how can Seth Rogen be an action hero, this featurette tries to explain it. As you’ll see after the jump, the featurette has footage from the movie mixed with interviews with Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Cameron Diaz. They explain how The Green Hornet is a twist on the superhero genre since it’s the sidekick who does most of the fighting.
I caught an early screening of the film and liked it a lot. While there was some bad buzz online awhile ago, I promise you the film is much better than you think it is and it’s definitely going to surprise you. Not only does The Green Hornet feature a number of impressive action scenes, it’s really funny. Hit the jump for the new featurette and expect a number of new interviews as we get closer to release.

New posters have gone online for The Green Hornet and Dylan Dog: Dead of Night. The poster Green Hornet isn’t all that spectacular, but I’m hearing positive buzz on the film, which stars Seth Rogen and Jay Chou as guys who masquerade as heroes masquerading as villains. They also wear masks. As for Dylan Dog, it’s an Italian teaser poster with the letters “DD” on it instead of the full title. However, due to the character’s popularity in Italy (the film is based on one of the best-selling Italian comic books), that shouldn’t be a problem. If the film shows up in the U.S., the marketing is going to have to be a bit more explicit.
Hit the jump to check out both posters. Directed by Michel Gondry (Be Kind Rewind), The Green Hornet also stars Christoph Waltz and Cameron Diaz. The film opens in 3D on January 14, 2011. Dylan Dog: Dead of Night was directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT) and stars Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington. It’s set to open in Italy in March.

Two new posters this Friday, both international in their own right. The first, for The Green Hornet, is so in the more traditional sense: it comes from Taiwan. The masked superhero film stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz; Michel Gondry (Be Kind Rewind) directing.
The second poster, for From Prada to Nada, reaches across the border with a Latina take on the Jane Austen classic Sense & Sensibility. The adaptation stars April Bowlby, Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Wilmer Valderrama, and Nicholas D’Agosto. Hit the jump for both posters.

While many people seem to have already made up their mind about Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen, others are still trying to get a feel for the film. Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) isn’t the obvious choice for directing a film heavy on action and fun, while a slimmed down Rogen is causing people aneurisms as they try to picture him starring in an action film. The Green Hornet also stars Jay Chou as the brawn of the duo, Kato, along with Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, and Michael Pena. Until reviews flood the world ahead of the January 14th 3D release by Sony, most people will judge the film on the trailers and the newest one does a solid job at selling all the nuances and showcases “Kato Vision.” So hit the jump to check out the new trailer with lots of new footage that does not give too much away:

Earlier today I was at Sony for a screening and sitting in the lobby outside my theater were two movie theater standees for The Green Hornet. Since I haven’t seen either of them at my local theaters, I snapped a few photos.
As you can see in the image above, the standee looks like they’ve taken the character one-sheets and placed them together for one long standee. As far as I know, the character posters haven’t yet been released. Another reason I took some photos.
However, with The Green Hornet arriving January 14, I’d imagine these standees will be in theaters very soon. Hit the jump for a bunch of pictures as well as posters for Battle: Los Angeles and Country Strong. They were also hanging in the lobby.

A new international trailer for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet has gone online. There’s just enough new footage to make it worth your time. While the trailer itself doesn’t sway me one way or another, reports are starting to leak out that the film is getting a highly positive reaction.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz. It’s set to open in 3D on January 14, 2011.

A new poster for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet, prominently showcasing the masked vigilante’s gun-toting ride “The Black Beauty” (much like this one), has found its way online . While Christopher Nolan’s Bruce Wayne might have fewer qualms leaving his seatbelt unbuckled in his tank-Hummer hybrid “Tumbler,” it looks like Britt Reid has a better shot at picking up a date for the night. (For a closer peek at the Green Hornet’s wheels, check out the official spec video and pictures from Comic-Con here.)
The superhero action-comedy stars Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express), Cameron Diaz (Knight and Day), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) and Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower). The Green Hornet arrives in theaters on January 14th, 2011 in three dimensions. Hit the jump to check out the poster and official synopsis.

As Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet approaches, Sony wants you to know that the character has got a sweet ride. The “Black Beauty” was featured prominently on the teaser poster for the film and at Comic-Con this year I got to take a close look at the many cars of the film, including the Beauty. A reel showing off the vehicle’s specs and scenes in the movie has now landed online. It’s clear that they’re trying to make the Black Beauty look like the Batmobile for a new generation. I think that cuts to a larger truth that if you’re a guilt-ridden billionaire playboy who’s looking to fight crime, you’re going to pimp your ride with a healthy dose of firepower.
Hit the jump to check out the clip as well as some photos I took of the Black Beauty at Comic-Con. The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz. It’s slated to open in 3D on January 14, 2011.
