Jessica Alba Interview SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

In Spy Kids: All The Time In The World, actress Jessica Alba plays Marissa Cortez Wilson, a woman who is married to a famous spy-hunting television reporter, has a new baby, and is the mother of twin stepkids. A retired secret agent, Marissa keeps the secret form her husband Wilbur (Joel McHale), and his 10-year-olds, Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), until the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet and she’s called back into action.

At the film’s press day, the very pregnant Jessica Alba talked about identifying with her character’s experience of being a new mom, why she enjoys collaborating with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (they’ve also done Machete and Sin City together), what it’s like to balance work and motherhood and always feel like she’s sacrificing one for the other, and how none of the physical work she’s done has been as challenging as her TV show Dark Angel, so she’ll be seeking out an action movie once she’s ready to get back to work after having her second child. Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids: All the Time in the World may be so stupid that it’s brilliant.  There’s a talking dog voiced by Ricky Gervais.  Jeremy Piven’s hair is inexplicable.  The jokes are lame.  The kids don’t seem like they can act.  I don’t think there’s a single set that isn’t CG.  But the masterstroke is “Aroma-Scope” which makes the 3D film “4D”.  We’ve already explained how “Aroma-Scope” works but seeing it in this trailer makes it look even dumber than previously imagined.  I wonder if you’ll use it when the kid’s bag of vomit hits a bad guy in the face.

New Posters for DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK and SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

New posters have been released for the horror flick Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.  The Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark poster is a tad generic and I preferred the early teaser poster, but I understand why studios don’t go with illustrated posters for live-action movies.  There could be confusion from the audience that the film is animated.  Best to go with floating heads.

Speaking of floating heads, the Spy Kids poster is terrifying.  Yes, it uses the same style as the previous Sky Kids posters, but for God’s sake: there’s a dog’s head popping off its body and you can see its (admittedly mechanical) spine!  Jeremy Piven’s face dominates a quarter of the poster space!  Hit the jump to be cool to a poster for a horror film and horrified by a poster for a family film.  Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark opens August 26th.  Spy Kids: All the time in the World opens in 3D on August 19th.

International Trailer for SPY KIDS 4: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

The trailer for Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World has gone online.  The film stars Jessica Alba as Marissa Cortez Wilson, a retired spy who returns to the espionage alongside her two step children Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), the new “Spy Kids”, to defeat the evil Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven).  Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara are all set to return and they’ll be joined by series newcomer Joel McHale.  Even though I enjoyed the first two Spy Kids films, this one looks like a challenge.   Bad guys getting hits with bags of vomit doesn’t exactly have the same charm as a Spy Kid having a watch that does everything but tell time.  I know these are movies for kids, but they used to be movies their parents could also enjoy and I’m not really seeing that in this international trailer.

Dimension Films has released the first image of Jeremy Piven as the villainous Timekeeper in Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.  Apparently, when the Timekeeper isn’t busy trying to rule the world, he working at his local theater company’s production of Guys and Dolls.

The first official image from Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World has gone online.  The sequel/reboot stars Jessica Alba as former spy Marissa Cortez Wilson.  Marissa is called back into action when the villainous Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet.  The eponymous espionage children are Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook) who get into the spy game as they accompany their step-mom on the adventure.  I’m slightly surprised that the new film also features a spy toddler, but I guess if you want to reboot a franchise, you have to get new cast members as young as possible.

As he does every year following the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel had some star-studded sketches for his post-Oscar episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.  While this year wasn’t quite as good as the Handsome Men’s Club, it’s tough to argue with watching gorgeous actresses like Scarlett Johansson and Sofia Vergara engage in a new work-out regimen called “Humpilates”.  Basically, Kimmel and his writers found an excuse to have some of Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses hump exercise balls bearing the word “hobo”.  I have no problem with that.

Kimmel also ran a fake trailer for an American adaptation of The King’s Speech called The President’s Speech, where Sir Mike Tyson helps George W. Bush overcome his constant verbal gaffes.  Hit the jump to check out both sketches.

MACHETE Blu-ray Review

The film Grindhouse included a number of fake trailers for (mostly) awesome looking movies. At that time, Robert Rodriguez’s trailer for the then imaginary film “Machete” offered a lot of awesome images of asskickery, but what made it great was that it had Danny Trejo in a leading role. Trejo has been kicking around Hollywood for over twenty five years, starting as an extra and moving up to “that guy” status after turns in films like Desperado and Heat. 2010’s Machete then is Trejo’s first starring role as an ex-federale turned day-laborer hired by Michael Booth (Jeff Fahey) to kill Senator John McLaughlin (Robert De Niro). It turns out the shooting is a double cross, and Machete must then get revenge.

Joined by an all star and random cast of actors that range from Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, the aforementioned De Niro and Fahey, Cheech Martin, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson and Tom Savini, it’s a weird collision of actors all making a film that was born of a fake trailer. The results are mixed, but it’s hard to hate a film like this. My review of Machete on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

Interactive Trailer for LITTLE FOCKERS

This past year, we’ve seen the rise of “Interactive Trailers”, which allow viewers to stop the trailer and go deeper into the film, whether it’s with director’s commentary, photos, or fun facts.  The “i-Trailer” was done well with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and The Social Network, and for those films, both of which reference interactive mediums (video games and the Internet, respectively), an interactive trailer makes sense.  Why Universal decided to make an interactive trailer for Little Fockers makes somewhat less sense.  Unless one of the behind-the-scenes clips is someone handing Robert De Niro a paycheck, I don’t think anyone really needs to go deeper into Meet the Parents universe.

But if you’re just bonkers for this franchise, then hit the jump to check out the interactive trailer.  Little Fockers stars Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Teri Polo, Barbara Streisand, Jessica Alba, and Dustin Hoffman.  It opens December 22nd.

6 Movie Clips and New Images from LITTLE FOCKERS

Since the 1970′s, Robert De Niro has made countless films.  While some have clearly missed the mark, a few of them are considered classics in every sense of the word.  Some of my favorites are Goodfellas, Heat, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, The Godfather Part 2, and Righteous Kill.  Kidding with that last one.

However, while he’s made some amazing films, not all of them have been box office hits.  In fact, you might be surprised to learn that his two biggest hits were not made with Martin Scorsese, but with Ben Stiller.  While some might dismiss Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, Parents made $166 million (worldwide) and Fockers made $280 million (worldwide).  With this kind of money, it’s no surprise Universal made a third entry (called Little Fockers) and it gets released December 22.

Anyway, Universal has released 6 clips and a number of new images from the film.  Check them out after the jump – along with the official synospis:

New Trailer and Images from LITTLE FOCKERS

A new trailer for Little Fockers has made its way online.  Featuring an ensemble of talents including Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Jessica Alba, and Harvey Keitel, the film marks the third installment in the Meet the Parents series.  Directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie) and penned by scribes John Hamburg and Larry Stuckey, Little Fockers tells the story of Jack Byrnes (De Niro) prepping Greg Focker (Stiller) for the role of Byrnes family patriarch.  Admittedly, none of the Meet the Parents films have been, nor will ever be, earth-shatteringly great.  That said, they almost always succeed in making me laugh and, honestly, I won’t ask any more of them.

In addition to the trailer, after the jump you’ll also find a slew of new images from the film that were sent our way earlier today.  Little Fockers hits theaters on December 22nd.

Jessica Alba is channeling superhero chic on the set of Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World in Austin. Despite the Texan heat, she looks pretty cool in her badass black pantsuit, a likely crossover from the closets of Catwoman and the Black Widow.

Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, stars of the Spy Kids trilogy, can also be seen with Alba and are clearly no longer kids. In this fourth installment, their characters Carmen and Juni Cortez will instead be arming the new Spy Kids with some incredible gadgets worthy of James Bond’s M.

Jessica Alba is playing Marissa Cortez Wilson, a retired spy who returns to service alongside her two step children, the new Spy Kids, to defeat the evil Timekeeper, played by Jeremy Piven. MACHETE Review

Robert Rodriguez’ Machete could use some serious cuts.  Despite adopting the tone of a lean, mean exploitation flick, the film feels flabby and is burdened with too many characters and a convoluted plotline that reduces the screen-time of its Mexploitation hero.  It’s particularly frustrating when what works in the movie works so damn well.  The action is exciting and the jokes are hilarious.  But Rodriguez runs up against the same problem he had with Once Upon a Time in Mexico when he reached for an epic and neglected the power of the angry little bloodbath at his disposal.

When ex-Federale turned Texas day laborer Machete (Danny Trejo) becomes the fall guy for a crooked political assassination attempt, he finds a web of corruption and deceit that spreads so deep that he needs help to take it down. Helping Machete even the odds are Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a sexy taco truck lady who is a revolutionary at heart, and I.C.E. Agent Sartana (Jessica Alba), a beautiful and street-savvy woman who realizes that things aren’t what they first appear when it comes to this bad-ass.

At a press conference for the film, co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba talked about what it’s like to have a movie like this released while immigration is such an important issue for people, what makes Danny Trejo such a compelling leading man and finally putting stilettos to some good use. Jessica Alba to Star in Robert Rodriguez’s SPY KIDS 4

Following her roles in Sin City and Machete, Jessica Alba may achieve the Robert Rodriguez trifecta as the lead adult in Spy Kids 4.  Now that one-time child stars Alexa Vega (23) and Daryl Sabara (18) are no longer able to put the “kid” in Spy Kids, Rodriguez plans to reboot the franchise with Alba at the center.  According to Heat Vision, Alba would play a retired spy and mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren, the latter fulfilling the duties of “spy kids.”  Alongside the search for fresh young talent, Rodriguez is currently seeking actors to play Alba’s nerdy investigative reporter husband and the villain “Time Keeper.”

Production on the 3D sequel should start next month in Austin, with a trademark Rodriguez-sized budget of $30 million.  Vega, Sabara, and Spy Kids co-star Antonio Banderas are all expected to appear in supporting roles.
