The first clip from Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2 is now online. While I'm surprised that this massive fight scene between costumed heroes and villains is the first clip we're getting, I'm not complaining! Some of our old favorites are back but there is a host of new characters on both sides of the battle. Battle Guy, Night Bitch and Doctor Gravity get in on the action and it's not just Kick-Ass and The Mother Fucker who square off. Hit-Girl takes on a big challenge when she goes up against Mother Russia by herself.

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Jim Carrey and Olga Kurkulina, Kick-Ass 2 opens August 16th. Hit the jump to watch the clip. [Update: Unfortunately it looks as if this clip has been taken down. Sorry if you missed it!]

Here's the first clip from Kick-Ass 2 (via Geeks of Doom):

Jim Carrey is set to breathe new life into Summit’s long-developing comedy Ricky Stanicky. The film was initially written by Jeff Bushell (Beverly Hills Chihuahua) and begins when three teens pull a prank by burning down a house in their neighborhood. The kids create a fake person to take the blame—“Ricky Stanicky”—and 20 years later are still using the alibi to get out of every uncomfortable situation. When their wives finally force them to set up a meeting with Stanicky, they hire an actor to inhabit the personality. Steve Oedekerk (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) recently came onboard to re-write and direct the film, and the ensemble comedy is said to be in the same R-rated vein as The Hangover.

Hit the jump for more on the project, including details regarding Carrey’s casting.

James Franco was previously attached to play the Stanicky role in 2010 and Joaquin Phoenix subsequently circled the part, but now THR reports that Carrey has signed on to lead the pic. Michael De Luca and Smart Entertainment’s John Jacobs are producing, and filming on the pic is looking to begin this summer. Oedekirk has a long history with Carrey, as he served as a writer on the sketch comedy series In Living Color before penning films like Bruce Almighty and Patch Adams.

Carrey is coming off of strong work in the Warner Bros. comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which marked a return to the delightfully twisted characters from the actor’s early career. He will next be seen this summer ...

An international trailer for Kick-Ass 2 has been released. The red-band trailer focused on the plot of the film where we saw heroes banding together against the threat of The Motherfucker (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). The international trailer mostly ignores all that (there's no Motherfucker to be found), and shines a light directly on Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz). That's not too surprising when you consider she was the most popular character in the first film, and Moretz looks like she's even better this time around.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. There's also a new character poster for Jim Carrey's superhero, Colonel Stars and Stripes. The movie co-stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, and Olga Kurkulina. Kick-Ass 2 opens August 16th.

Trailer via Empire. Poster via Universal Pictures.

Here’s the official synopsis for Kick-Ass 2:
Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.

[This is a re-post of my review from SXSW 2013. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opens today in wide release.]

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone may celebrate the childlike wonder and unadulterated joy of magic. It may profess the power of awe and possibility. But its true motives are simple and pure: make the audience laugh by almost any means necessary. Those means are usually along the lines of the silly, slightly demented, biting, and occasionally dark humor that may not share the story's values, but they get consistent comedy out of a charming albeit slightly conventional premise. Working from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley's sharp script with great performances from its cast, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a trick we know, but it's one performed well.

Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) are childhood friends who took their love of magic all the way to Las Vegas, and became huge stars with their own theater at Bally's Casino. Behind the scenes, Burt and Anton have grown to despise each other, which mostly stems from Burt's vanity. The self-centered magician can't even be bothered to remember the name of his assistant, Jane (Olivia Wilde). Burt's world begins falling apart when his ticket sales plunge and audiences begin flocking to disturbing street magician, Steve Gray (Jim Carrey). Reduced to working retirement homes, Burt must eventually rediscover his love of magic.

The story is as familiar as a card trick: a selfish person learns the value of humility. Goldstein and Daley don't mess ...

The first red-band trailer for the sequel Kick-Ass 2 debut this morning, and now Universal has released a batch of high-resolution images and the first poster for the film. Jeff Wadlow takes over from the first film’s director Matthew Vaughn this time around, and the story finds Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace Moretz’s Hit Girl inspiring a new wave of masked superheroes that join in their fight against evil. On the flipside, Christopher Mintz-Plasse has now become a supervillain named The Mother Fucker and is assembling his own masked evil league.

Hit the jump to check out the images and poster. The film also stars Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, and Jim Carrey. Kick-Ass 2 opens on August 16th.

Universal has released the first red-band trailer for director Jeff Wadlow's sequel Kick-Ass 2. The trailer opens with a fight/dialogue scene between Aaron Johnson's Kick-Ass and Chloe Moretz's Hit Girl that brings us right back into the Kick-Ass world, and it sure does feel good to be back. The plot appears to revolve around the preparations for a showdown between Kick-Ass/Hit Girl and Christopher Mintz-Plasse's newly minted "The Motherfucker," as both sides are building up their own armies of heroes/villains. Mintz-Plasse looks to have gone delectably full-evil in the follow-up, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how his character progresses throughout the film. The CGI is pretty iffy in places, but the fight scenes and performances look great, with Jim Carrey essentially unrecognizable as Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, and Olga Kurkulina. Kick-Ass 2 opens on August 16th.

If you missed it, click here for 6 new high-resolution images and the first poster for the film.

Opening this Friday is director Don Scardino’s magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). The screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses) takes the story to some deliciously dark places while maintaining a sincere center, and Carrey is fantastically over the top with his David Blaine-esque magician character, harkening back to the actor’s classically nutty performances from early in his career. You can read Matt’s positive review here.

I recently got the chance to attend the press junket for Burt Wonderstone in Las Vegas, and while there I participated in a press conference with Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein. The cast and screenwriters talked about the experience of filming on the streets of Las Vegas, the parallels between magicians and comedians, attempting to master some slight-of-hand tricks for the film, crafting their outrageous characters, and much, much more. Hit the jump to read or listen to the full press conference, which also includes a great Rodney Dangerfield story from Carrey.

Click here to listen to the audio (which is worth it for Carrey’s stories alone), or read the full transcript below.

Question: You’re playing magicians. What do you think the similarities are between magicians and actors? And how does success corrupt both of your characters?

With director Don Scardino’s (30 Rock) magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opening March 15, Warner Bros. has provided us with 10 clips. The film stars Steve Carell as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). The comedy is set to open SXSW 2013, and that’s a huge vote of confidence for the film’s quality.

Hit the jump to check out the clips. Finally, if you missed any of my set visit coverage, here are my on set interviews with Steve Carell, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, director Don Scardino, and producer Chris Bender.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone:

Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas Strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other.
Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show is starting to look stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if only Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Warner Bros. has released 38 images from The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). The comedy is set to open SXSW 2013, and that's a huge vote of confidence for the film's quality.

Hit the jump to check out the images, and if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage be sure to check out his interviews with Steve Carell, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, director Don Scardino, and producer Chris Bender. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opens on March 15th.

Here's the official synopsis for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone:

Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas Strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt's growing ego. But lately the duo's greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they've grown to loathe each other.
Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show is starting to look stale. But there's still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if only Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Warner Bros. has released the first clip from director Don Scardino’s (30 Rock) magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). This clip finds Carell and Carrey squaring off in a bar, and it’s chock full of the sort of delightful goofiness that I was hoping would result from a Carell/Carrey team-up. Carrey looks to have put together a great character for the pic, and I look forward to seeing more of his antics in the full film.

Hit the jump to watch the clip, and if you missed any of Steve’s set visit coverage be sure to check out his interviews with Steve Carell, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, director Don Scardino, and producer Chris Bender. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone opens on March 15th.

Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot for director Don Scardino’s (30 Rock) upcoming magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The film stars Steve Carell as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). This TV spot actually includes quite a bit of new footage and the jokes seem to be fairly strong, especially one involving a tiny dog. The pic’s script was written by Horrible Bosses scribes Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, so here’s hoping Burt Wonderstone includes some of the same charm and humor that was prevalent in that comedy.

Hit the jump to watch the new TV spot. The film also stars Olivia Wilde, James Gandolfini, and Alan Arkin. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone will premiere at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival and opens in theaters on March 15th.

New posters for Kick-Ass 2 are about to get in our faces by getting up in the faces of the film's characters. In the sequel, Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has inspired a wave of superheroes led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey). When the group becomes the target of Red Mist’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) fury—now going by the name of “The Motherfucker”—only Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can save them. I enjoyed the posters for the first film, and I suppose the recruitment-style posters have had an unexpected payoff for the new movie.

Hit the jump to take a look at the posters. Hopefully, the official versions will be released soon. The film also stars Clark Duke, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Olga Kurkulina, and Nicolas Cage. Kick-Ass 2 opens June 28th. [Update: Universal has asked us to remove the posters. You can still read the film's full synopsis after the jump.]

Jim Carrey will indeed be heading into heist territory with his next film. We reported back in October that Carrey was in negotiations to star in director Jared Hess’ (Napoleon Dynamite) action-comedy Loomis Fargo, and Relativity Media announced today that the deal has closed and the actor will be fronting the film. The pic is inspired by true events and tells the story of a disgruntled bank employee who teams up with his work crush to conspire to rob Loomis Fargo. Though the plot sounds a tad similar to Carrey's Fun with Dick and Jane, hopefully it'll provide another opportunity to mix timely subject matter with some well-crafted humor.

Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn (Baby Mama) will produce, while Danny McBride and Jody Hill are onboard as executive producers. A female lead has yet to be announced, but production is hoping to get underway this April in North Carolina. Hit the jump to read the press release.

A couple of character posters and an international trailer have been released for the comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Steve Carell stars as a Vegas magician whose relationship with his partner (Steve Buscemi) becomes strained as the two start getting upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Jim Carrey). The international trailer has a couple new jokes, and I'm jazzed for the film not only because of the cast, which also includes Olivia Wilde, James Gandolfini, and Alan Arkin, but because it was written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Horrible Bosses).

Hit the jump to check out the posters and new trailer. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone will open the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, and opens on March 15th.

The casting process on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy continues to move right along, and even though the studio has yet to announce any actors joining the project, they are reportedly looking at some rather interesting names to fill out the cast. We’ve previously reported on a number of shortlists of actors that Marvel and director James Gunn have been considering for the lead role of Star-Lord, a master strategist and combat expert who wears an ability-enhancing suit and pilots a psychically-linked ship. Everyone from John Krasinski to Jim Sturgess has been linked to the role, and now a couple more young male actor names have been added to the list of contenders.

More interestingly, though, is the fact that Marvel is apparently looking into nabbing a couple of high profile comedic actors to bring some levity to the film: Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.

The folks over at Latino Review, who have been a solid source on Marvel news for the past couple of years now, report that Marvel is currently looking into the availability of both Carrey and Sandler. The report is unclear as to whether the studio is casting two comedic roles or just one, and it’s important to note that looking into the availability of an actor is not the same thing as casting the actor. That said, we all knew Guardians was likely to be a humor-filled movie the minute Gunn signed on, and Carrey and/or Sandler would certainly fit into the likely motion-capture roles of Rocket ...

The first official image has been released for Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2. The superhero sequel to Matthew Vaughn's 2010 comic adaptation features the return of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as titular hero, Kick-Ass, plus plenty of newcomers. One such addition is Jim Carrey, who is showcased in the first image as Colonel Stars and Stripes, the leader of a new band of crime-fighters named Justice Forever.

Also starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage, Donald Faison and Clark Duke, Kick-Ass 2 opens June 28th. Hit the jump to see the image.
