Pop quiz, hot shot: you have a choice between facing a pack of hungry wolves protecting their territory in the Alaskan wilderness or Liam Neeson armed with broken-bottle glass-knuckles. Before you answer, you should check out these new clips from Neeson’s upcoming “man vs nature” flick, The Grey. In it, Neeson leads a crew of oil rig roughnecks in a race for survival after their plane crashes in the barren north. We’ve previously brought you two different trailers and even marked the film as one of “Collider’s Most Anticipated” of early 2011. What else do you want from us? Oh, right. The clips.

The Grey, by director Joe Carnahan, also stars Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Badge Dale and Nonso Anozie. It opens in theaters January 27th. Hit the jump to check out the clips and a new banner poster.

New Trailer for THE GREY

A new trailer has gone online for Joe Carnahan’s survival-action flick The Grey.  Once again, Liam Neeson plays a man with a very special set of skills, but this time it’s about surviving against the wild rather than surviving Paris.  Neeson’s character must help a group of oil-rig roughnecks after their plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness.  I’ve enjoyed all of Carnahan’s previous movies (Narc, Smokin’ Aces, and The A-Team) and I can’t remember the last time we saw a solid men-vs-wild movie (maybe The Edge?  It has Anthony Hopkins rasslin’ grizzly bears).  I continue to hope that this movie delivers with the force of broken-bottle knuckles.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Badge Dale, and Nonso AnozieThe Grey opens January 27, 2012.

The first trailer for Joe Carnahan’s men vs. wolves drama The Grey has gone online.  The story centers on a group of oil-rig roughnecks who are stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after their plane crashes.  They must battle to survive their injuries, the cold, hunger, and wolves.  The wolves apparently play a big role.  This trailer mostly highlights Liam Neeson and distributors Open Road are hoping they can net him an Oscar nomination for his performance.  There’s also a little bit of Carnahan’s trademark insanity on display when you see Neeson breakout the broken-bottle knuckles to fight wolves.  The trailer is selling the film as a drama but there’s definitely some fun to be had.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer who leads a cast that includes Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Badge Dale, and Nonso Anozie.  The Grey opens January 27, 2012, but there may be a brief Oscar-qualifying run in December if Open Road thinks it has a serious shot at putting Neeson in the awards race.

The first image from Joe Carnahan’s upcoming wolf-vs-man thriller The Grey has gone online.  The film stars Liam Neeson, Dallas Roberts (Rubicon), James Badge Dale (Rubicon), Dermot Mulroney (Inhale), Frank Grillo (My Soul to Take), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla), and Joe Anderson (The Crazies) as a group of oilmen who have crash landed in the hunting zone of a rogue pack of wolves in the Alaskan tundra.  As for making the wolves come off as threatening, Carnahan says he plans to take the “I know that if you look at a wolf for too long, it’s just a [cuddly] malamute. So we’re doing the Jaws approach. They’re like the slasher in a slasher movie.”

After the big-budget, dumb-fun fare of The A-Team, director Joe Carnahan is going back to gritty indie fare with The Grey.  The film centers on a group of oil-rig roughnecks who survive a plane crash.  Normally, that makes you one of the luckiest people on the planet.  Unfortunately for this group, their plane happens to crash right in the middle of a hunting zone of a rogue pack of wolves in the Alaskan tundra.  As we previously reported, Liam Neeson will lead the film, and according to Deadline, he’ll be joined by Dallas Roberts (Rubicon), James Badge Dale (Rubicon), Dermot Mulroney (Inhale),  Frank Grillo (My Soul to Take), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla), and Joe Anderson (The Crazies).

The film now has a green light and production will begin next week.  Hit the jump for what Carnahan had to say about the film.

Meg Ryan, 50 Cent, John Lithgow, Joe Anderson, and Kat Dennings Lead LIVES OF THE SAINTS

Meg Ryan (The Women), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Twelve), John Lithgow (Dexter), Joe Anderson (The Crazies), and Kat Dennings (Thor) assume the lead roles in the ensemble drama Lives of the Saints.  Kevin Zegers (Gossip Girl), Anthony Anderson (Law & Order), and Esai Morales (Caprica) also appear in the film, the feature debut of writer/director Chris Rossi.

According to Variety, the film tells “the intertwining stories of a group of Angelenos seeking redemption for past mistakes, only to find that forgiveness comes from unlikely places.”  Like any logline that contains the phrase “comes from unlikely places,” this one sounds terrible.  But the cast is mad eclectic.  That’s got to be good for something.  For instance, a scene between John Lithgow and 50 Cent may achieve the greatest disparity in acting talent ever captured on film.  Filming begins November 13th.

OPERATION: ENDGAME Blu-Ray Review

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: August 31st, 2010 at 10:36 am

When a film has an eclectic cast including the talents of Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, Maggie Q, Jeffrey Tambor, Ving Rhames, Emilie de Ravin, Adam Scott, Odette Yustman, Ellen Barkin, Brandon T. Jackson and Joe Anderson you’re either in for something fantastic or a complete disaster. Though the fact that this title went straight-to-DVD is somewhat of an indicator, there’s certainly a battle to be fought in deciding whether action and comedy come together to form an entertaining flick. So how does this story of two feuding teams of government assassins fare? Find out after the jump.

THE CRAZIES Review

Breck Eisner’s The Crazies might make you believe something this hellacious isn’t just a work of far-flung fiction, but a possible reality. For a Hollywood horror film, that is quite a feat when the weird seems to gush from the wounds of multi-million dollar projects that often strive for shock over true substance or coherency. Eisner, working off of George A. Romero’s 1973 original The Crazies, uses a believable story with the required scares and thrills without succumbing to sheer absurdity or grotesque violence. By using focused and tight camerawork, a narrative that is easy to follow, and quality acting, Eisner delivers a worthy entry in the horror genre that is a pleasure from start to finish, even for non-genre fans.

Sizzle Reel for THE CRAZIES Starring Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker

A sizzle reel for Breck Eisner’s upcoming horror film The Crazies has just gone up online and it’s pretty damn cool.  For those who don’t know, a sizzle reel is a combination of a featurette with a trailer. You don’t see any behind-the-scenes stuff, but you have the actors talking about the film, while some really intense action is happening on screen.  I’m hearing good things about the movie, which is terrific since 90% of mainstream horror movies seem to phone in it these days.

Hit the jump to check out the sizzle reel along with the official synopsis.  Also, you can click here to read an interview with Danielle Panabaker, click here to read an interview with Breck Eisner, and click here to read my set report from last year.

The Crazies hits theaters tomorrow.  Look for Bill Graham’s review later tonight.

New Banners for THE CRAZIES Will Not Benefit Ogden Marsh’s Tourism Industry

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 12th, 2010 at 1:18 pm

slice_crazies_movie_banner_poster_01.jpg

Overture has provided us with three new banners for their upcoming horror flick The Crazies and I’m not sure if they’re the best way to promote Ogden Marsh, the setting of the film.  They say, “Welcome to Ogden Marsh, the friendliest place on Earth,” but that’s pretty difficult to believe.  For starters, have they compared Ogden Marsh to every other place on Earth?  And how do you measure “friendliest”?  This is a highly dubious promotion.  Oh, and the people they put on the posters appear to have a vascular problem and they’re wielding wrenches, pitchforks, and guns.  This may also be a bit of a turn-off to potential visitors.

Based off the 1973 George Romero film of the same name, The Crazies is directed by Breck Eisner, and stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker. Hit the jump to check out all three banners along with the official synopsis.  The Crazies hits theaters on February 26th.

Yahoo! Movies has premiered a new trailer for Breck Eisner’s remake of George Romero’s 1973 horror film, The Crazies.  The film stars Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood), Radha Mitchell (Surrogates), Joe Anderson (Across the Universe), and Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, 2009) as the unfortunate residents of a town where residents are inexplicably turning, to quote Robert Downey Jr. in Zodiac, “a tad bit fuckered in the head.”  I was lucky enough to get to go to the set this past March where I saw some cool stuff, especially in terms of the special effects make-up, which is important when you’re making a gruesome horror movie.  You can click here to read my full set report where I go in depth about the make-up and how time stops when in you’re in a high school classroom no matter how old you are.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer along with the official synopsis.  The Crazies hits theaters on February 26, 2010.
