New Trailer for THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN

Earlier this month, we posted five short clips from Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin. Just today we brought you a new official poster and some fan-made opening credits. Now, we have the new trailer for the mo-cap project that showcases a bit more action than the UK one that posted recently.

The Adventures of Tintin is based on one of the most popular comic book series in Europe and as such, will open in the UK on October 26^th. Since our American sensibilities need some time to warm up to this foreign hero, the film will open stateside on December 21^st. The Adventures of Tintin stars Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig and was produced by Spielberg and Sir Peter Jackson. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Director Joe Cornish Discusses Possible ATTACK THE BLOCK Sequel Ideas; Confirms He’s Been Approached for American Remake and Spin-Off

Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block pretty much amazed everyone who go the chance to see it this year. Throughout its numerous special screenings and limited theatrical run, it captivated audiences with its of-kilter alien invasion story set in South London. Given that the film is so loved by the people, naturally there’s been talk of possible sequels. At this summer’s Comic-Con, Cornish revealed that producer Edgar Wright had come up with an idea for the sequel, though he was remiss to reveal just what the idea entailed. However, the film’s star John Boyega has been coming up with ideas of his own, and recently Cornish revealed what Boyega would have in store for the characters if he had his way. ATTACK THE BLOCK Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 25

If you’re like me, and you’ve been insanely jealous of all those folks who have gotten to see Joe Cornish’s much buzzed-about Attack the Block, then I’ve got some very exciting news for you: Sony Home Entertainment is set to release the Edgar Wright-produced flick on Blu-ray and DVD on October 25th. Pretty much everyone who has seen the alien invasion film has loved it (including Matt and Steve), and I’ve been waiting in vain each week to see if it will finally screen in my city. If you’ve thus far been shit out of luck like me, or if you’ve already seen the film and want to own it so you can share it with every single person you know, all will be well next month.

Shortlist for DIE HARD 5 Directors Includes Joe Cornish, Nicolas Winding Refn and Justin Lin

It appears that Fox is eager to get Die Hard 5 going as quickly as possible. Just the other day we reported that Noam Murro is no longer attached to the project (he’s busy with the 300 prequel 300: Battle of Artemisia), and Fox is on the lookout for a new director for the Russian-set sequel. Now a short list of directors Fox is interested in has appeared and it includes: Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Justin Lin (Fast Five) and John Moore (Max Payne). Joe Cornish’s spunky and rollicking alien invasion film Attack the Block, wastes no time. It begins with a South London mugging interrupted by an alien falling to earth. After a brief scuffle, the muggers kill the beast and then parade it around their public housing tenement as a prize. But when larger, pitch-black beasts with glowing blue fangs begin to fall from the sky, the young hoodie-wearing hooligans are forced to band together with the woman they robbed in order to survive the night and defend their home turf.

I recently sat down with Cornish to discuss his directorial debut. During the interview he told us about how the monsters actually absorb the light around them, why he chose to go practical for the beasties, how the film satirizes English politics while humanizing disadvantaged youths and even briefly touches on Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, which he is co-writing.  Hit the jump for the full video interview and the list of theaters playing the movie this weekend.

One of the most buzzed about movies of the year is Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block. Following its premiere at SXSW (where the film played like gangbusters), the flick has been hosting advance screenings across the country. Matt loved it, and so did Bill and Steve. Cornish and producer Edgar Wright, as well as star John Boyega were present at Comic-Con today for the film’s Hall H panel and we were there to cover. To sum up, I must see this movie as soon as humanly possible. In addition to Attack the Block, Wright gave updates on Ant-Man and the third film in his “Cornetto Trilogy” with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Hit the jump for my recap.

Comic-Con 2011: ATTACK THE BLOCK Screening and Q&A with Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish and John Boyega

The Joe Cornish-directed alien invasion film Attack the Block has landed at Comic Con. Though it’s on the small end of the budget scale when compared to summer blockbusters, it may very well turn out to be the best bang for your buck in 2011. After receiving praise at SXSW and earning critical supporters both in England and stateside, Attack the Block is now only one week away from limited release in the states. The involvement of executive producer Edgar Wright and Big Talk Productions, known for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs the World, have led many people to draw direct comparisons to these movies. However, I think that while Attack the Block might have the same popcorn appeal and light-hearted character as these other films, it stands apart from them in many other ways. I’ve raved about Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block, Scott loved it, Steve’s loved it, and plenty of other online writers have cheered it on as well.  And if you don’t like our opinions, the film has picked up accolades at the SXSW and Los Angeles Film Festivals.  I’m not sure how much convincing you need to see this film, but for Comic-Con attendees who can’t wait to see this flick, I’ve got some great news.  Collider will be giving out 5 pairs of tickets to a special Comic-Con screening of the flick. Additionally, you can click here to register for free passes on a first-come, first serve basis, but our winners will be guaranteed seats.  If you do get passes through RSVPing and not directly through us, be sure to show up early as your pass does not guarantee you a seat.

If you’ve been hearing the ridiculous buzz and unending love for Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block, then you’re probably itching to finally see the thing. Well, now’s your chance. The Edgar Wright-produced flick is being screened at the New Beverly in Los Angeles on July 4^th, and we’ve got a limited amount of tickets to give out.

For those in the dark, the film centers on a street gang of kids who take on a hostile alien invasion. That plot description in and of itself should be enough to pique your interest. Hit the jump for more information on the screening.

Red-Band Trailer for ATTACK THE BLOCK

With its July 29th limited U.S. release approaching, a red-band trailer for writer/director Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block has landed online with the hopes of spreading the good word.  The film garnered a positive response at SXSW earlier this year and Matt called it “great” in his review.  To make a long story short, I’m jealous of anyone who has seen it and can only hope that the limited release makes it way to the Midwest so that I can check it out for myself and finally move on with life.

ATTACK THE BLOCK to Be Released in the U.S. on July 29th

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you know that Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block has some serious, serious buzz. The flick premiered at SXSW to wildly enthusiastic reviews, then a couple of LA screenings had those in attendance gushing about the imaginative action-thriller. Steve saw the film and loved it, and Matt’s a fan as well. And now, audiences all over the country will finally get a chance to see the film everyone’s talking about, and soon! Sony/Screen Gems has just announced (via Box Office Mojo) that Attack the Block will open in limited release on July 29^th.

Written and directed by Cornish, and co-produced by Edgar Wright, the film stars Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost. After hearing for months how fantastic it is, I personally cannot wait to see this thing.

ATTACK THE BLOCK Review

Is Attack the Block destined to be a cult favorite?  Probably.  A sleeper hit?  If it’s marketed correctly.  A great film?  Absolutely.  Writer-director Joe Cornish has created an action-thriller that is fast, frenetic, and fun, with a big heart and a sharp wit.  While it may be billed as the next Shaun of the Dead, Cornish has crafted his own glow-fanged beast that isn’t an homage to the alien invasion genre but rather resets it into a framework you’ve never seen before.  The film is grounded by the fresh, lively performances of its young lead actors, including a breakthrough turn from John Boyega, and while you may not understand every word they say, their attitude and the attitude of Attack the Block comes in loud and clear.

Teaser Trailer for THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has gone online.  While the teaser does a good job of selling the action, it doesn’t overcome two major hurdles the film is facing.  First, US audiences aren’t familiar with Tintin and they need an introduction.  The book may be acclaimed in Europe, but the books simply haven’t gained mainstream recognition in the states.  Second, moviegoers have an aversion to fully mo-capped features because of the way that characters fall into the uncanny valley.  The teaser tries to dodge that problem by showing as little of the characters’ faces as possible (except for the final shot of Tintin) but they’ll have to show us eventually.

Sweet UK and US Teaser Posters for THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN; Trailer Hits Tomorrow

It seems like the fully-animated motion-capture craze has come and gone with the shuttering of Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers Digital and the box office bomb Mars Needs Moms.  However, before that bomb exploded, directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson decided to do a mo-cap trilogy adaptation of the internationally popular comic book series, The Adventures of Tintin.  The cast includes Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Cary Elwes, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, and Daniel Mays.

But how do you market a mo-cap adaptation of a Belgian comic that isn’t widely-recognized by the American mainstream?  With airplanes, flaming ships, and a silhouetted figure in a trenchcoat.  That’s what you’ll see on the UK poster for the flick along with attention paid not to the cast, but to screenwriters Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish.  Hit the jump to check out the poster.  The first trailer for the film is set to go online tomorrow.  The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (a subtitle that was left off the poster) opens in 3D on December 23rd. Free Tickets to An Advanced Screening of ATTACK THE BLOCK in 25 Cities!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ve heard pretty much everyone raving about how great Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block is.  Co-produced by Edgar Wright, the film premiered at SXSW back in March and was met with wildly enthusiastic acclaim (here’s Scott’s review).  Steve also caught the film and says it’s one of his favorite films of the year.

While the flick won’t be hitting theaters in the U.S. until later this year, the filmmakers are going to be holding advanced screenings in 25 North American cities on May 25^th.
