A new red-band trailer for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator has gone online. The clip is basically structured similarly to the other trailers, but it includes alternate takes and different jokes. I was a big fan of Borat and admired the ballsiness of Bruno, but I’m starting to feel like The Dictator may be a bit one-note. This is the first Cohen comedy that’s set up as a true narrative feature instead of a mockumentary, so it’ll be interesting to see how this outlandish character fares throughout a true story arc. I liked the opening scene of the film so hopefully I’m wrong, but I’m not entirely convinced that I won’t tire of the character after 30 minutes of the film.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. We’ve also included an embed of a sketch from this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live in which Cohen appeared in character as said Dictator holding the actor’s Hugo director Martin Scorsese hostage. The Dictator opens on May 16th.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator has released a few images of Megan Fox and Anna Faris to drum up interest for their May 16th release date. Having been buried under coverage of some sort of blockbuster superhero movie, The Dictator will have to pull a few more tricks out of his sleeve to grab headlines. We’ve already seen the trailer, the opening of the film, a poster for General Aladeen’s (Cohen) visit to New York and the spilling of Kim Jong-Il’s ashes on the red carpet. The Dictator also boasts a solid supporting cast with John C. Reilly, Sir Ben Kingsley, B.J. Novak and J.B. Smoove. But, pictures of Megan Fox and Anna Faris certainly don’t hurt. Hit the jump to check them out along with a few other actors from The Dictator.

Yesterday came the joyous news that we would finally be getting a sequel to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. We know that Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Steve Carell will all be reprising their lovably buffoonish character, Adam McKay will return to the director’s chair, and filming is set to begin in February. If Anchorman 2 returns with only people from the original cast, I have no problem with that. But sequels usually bring new faces, so I’ve compiled a list of 12 actors who would fit well within the Anchorman universe. Keep in mind: I have no idea what the plot will be, or if there will be roles for these actors, and how radically McKay will change the look of the first movie. The Legend of Ron Burgundy has a goofy 70s vibe, but it’s possible they’ll reset the time and place (the first movie ends with Ron and Veronica leaving San Diego to become worldwide news anchors). Also, I’m not saying that all of these actors should be in the movie. I’m just saying I can see them fitting into an Anchorman sequel.
Hit the jump for my criteria on making the list and who made the cut.

A new French trailer for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator has gone online, and it reveals what looks to be the crux of the plot for the film. Though I’m fairly certain this plot twist will be unveiled in the next domestic trailer, I’ll keep things spoiler free here on the front page just in case. I’ll simply say that the twist shows huge comedic promise and I can’t wait to see where Cohen takes the rest of the film.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Ben Kingsley, Anna Faris, John C. Reilly and Megan Fox. The Dictator opens on May 11th. [Update: As expected, this was exactly the same as the new domestic trailer. It appears we're now getting an idea of the expanded plot and what to expect from the actual film. We've updated the article with the US version of the trailer, which is the same as the French one save for the subtitles.]

Earlier today, Steve sat down with Will Ferrell for Casa de mi Padre, and learned some good news and some bad news. Bad news first: Anchorman 2 remains dead. There were places for a sequel to go, but the movie isn’t going anywhere. Now the good news: you may remember that last May, Ferrell said he, John C. Reilly, and writer-director Adam McKay were considering a sequel to Step Brothers. Today, Ferrell told Steve that they are going to start writing a script really soon with the hope of filming it in the fall.
That’s a fairly quick turnaround. In June, we heard that McKay and Ferrell were considering the football comedy Three Mississippi. The movie is about two Philadelphia neighbors whose annual Thanksgiving game of tackle football has become extraordinarily heated. I like that premise, but you won’t hear me complaining if Step Brothers 2 goes in front of cameras first. I’m always up for a fuckin’ Catalina wine mixer. Look for part of Steve’s interview later today (we’ll update this article) but until then, watch the trailer for the first Step Brothers after the jump.

This November, Disney Animation Studios will release the video game-inspired Wreck-It Ralph. The film centers on an 8-bit arcade villain named Wreck-It Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) who grows sick of constantly being viewed as the bad guy, and decides to prove he can be a hero by traveling into other video game worlds. I love the concept and now some early images from the movie have gone online. The image with the bug-zapping soldiers is “Hero’s Bounty” and has Ralph meeting Sgt. Calhoun (Jane Lynch). All of the images look a little simple and untextured, but keep in mind that the movie is still ten months away.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also features the voices of Sarah Silverman and Jack McBrayer. Wreck-It Ralph opens November 12th. [Update: We've updated the article with high resolution versions of the images]

It’s rare to find a film that delves, with minimal flinching, into what it means to be an outcast. Most of the time, such explorations are tempered with a healthy dose of quirk and whimsy (see: Lars & the Real Girl, Garden State) to make things more palatable. But though it does involve some quirk, complete with oddball characters and a pretty, sort-of-hipster-looking chick, Azazel Jacobs’ Terri commendably drops the whimsy for stark, ugly reality.
Jacob Wysocki stars in the titular role, an overweight, friendless high school student, who, amidst the hum-drum of caring for his dementia-stricken uncle (The Office’s Creed Bratton) and the soul-numbing verbal abuse from classmates, takes to wearing pajamas to school every day. This fairly on-the-nose uniform of the world-weary gets him noticed by John C. Reilly’s concerned guidance counselor, who makes Terri his personal project. Hit the jump for our review of Terri on Blu-ray.

The full green band trailer for Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie has gone online. The movie is the first feature length film from the comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. This trailer is pretty much exactly the same as the red band one that was release a few weeks ago, except with no dirty words. If you’re not a fan of the duo’s peculiar brand of comedy, odds are this trailer won’t win you over. The movie features cameos from a number of celebs including Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Will Forte, and Jeff Goldblum.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie will be available VOD on January 27th, and hits theaters March 2nd.

Every Auteur has his signature visual fetish. For Alfred Hitchcock it is women in pieces, for Martin Scorsese it is the omnipotent God’s-eye-view of the tracking shot and for Roman Polanski it is the domestic space made wild. So, when development began on an adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s award winning play, God of Carnage, it only made sense for Polanski to take the helm. Carnage, which stars Christoph Waltz, Kate Winselt, Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly, is a brutally funny and subtly disturbing film set entirely within the confines of a slightly bougie New York apartment, detailing the sublimated rage, self-righteousness and self-loathing that come to the surface when two sets of parents who come together to discuss a minor fistfight between their sons.
Recently, I sat down with Oscar nominee Reilly to discuss the film. During the conversation, which he described as one of the most awkward of his entire life, the actor discussed approaching comedy versus drama, how adults can be childish, the Stepbrothers rap album, Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, going to the confessional and more, including how he might not be in Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming, The Dictator. Hit the jump for the interview.

Paramount has released the first trailer for the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. Cohen stars as a despot who “risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.” The trailer has a lot of great jokes. Cohen is like Mike Myers if Myers was still funny, relevant, had smarter comedy, and–most importantly–was willing to offend the shit out of people. This trailer doesn’t pull any punches and I love that it’s a green band that will play to families across America this holiday season.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, J.B. Smoove, and John C. Reilly. The Dictator opens May 11, 2012. [We've updated the story with the teaser poster, which you can also check out after the jump.]

A full red band trailer for Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie has gone online. The pic marks the first feature-length film from the comedy duo of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. It’s pretty much what you’re expecting from the oddball team. The trailer’s got its fair share of strange moments, and highlights the celebs that pop up throughout the film (Zach Galifianakis, John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell, Will Forte and Jeff Goldblum). If you’re a fan of the show, I’m assuming this trailer will pique your interest. I can appreciate the comedic value of Tim and Eric, but I always feel like I’m on a bad acid trip when watching their stuff (which I guess is the point).
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Robert Loggia and William Atherton. The pic is being featured as part of the “Park City at Midnight” line-up at the Sundance Film Festival and will be available January 27th on VOD. Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie hits theaters March 2nd.

The nominations for the 27th Annual Independent Spirit Awards were announced this morning with The Artist and Take Shelter each nabbing five nominations. In addition to The Artist and Take Shelter, Drive, 50/50, The Descendants, and Beginners will duke it out for the top prize. Absent from the Best Feature list is Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, though the film was recognized in Best Supporting Male (Corey Stoll) and Best Cinematography. Also of note, Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes landed nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Male for Martha Marcy May Marlene, and Ryan Gosling and Woody Harrelson were both singled out in Best Actor for Drive and Rampart respectively.
Hit the jump to check out the full list of nominations. Recognizing the best in independent film, the awards will be handed out on February 25th, the day before the Oscars.

We’ve got a few new posters to share with you today. First up is a truly terrible one sheet for Roman Polanski’s comedy Carnage. The film itself doesn’t look bad at all—with a stellar cast made up of Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz, and John C. Reilly—but this poster makes the film look like Hallmark’s Movie of the Week. We’ve also got a warm and fuzzy holiday-themed poster for the alien invasion pic The Darkest Hour. The film stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Mighella, and Joel Kinnaman, and features aliens that are “creatures of electricity and electromagnetism” rather than scaly, insect-looking things like every other sci-fi movie these days.
Last but not least is a nostalgia-inducing poster for the 3D re-release of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. As we previously reported, Disney is re-releasing a number of animated films theatrically in 3D after the smashing success of The Lion King. Carnage opens December 16th, The Darkest Hour arrives December 25th, and Beauty and the Beast 3D returns January 13th. Hit the jump for the posters.

The US trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s searing drama We Need to Talk about Kevin has gone online. The film, which picked up six BIFA nominations today, centers on Eve (Tilda Swinton), a mother who is forced to grapple with her son’s unforgivable and violent act. Ramsay cuts between Eve’s life pre- and post-atrocity and how she wonders if her son was always capable of committing such a horrifying deed. I’ll have my review up when the movie opens in December, but when I saw it at TIFF it left me with my jaw on the floor and a hole in my gut. The trailer does a good job of conveying the tone of the film and selling the magnificence of Swinton’s performance. I’ve seen other great work from actresses this year like Kirsten Dunst in Melancholia and Elizabeth Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene, but Swinton blows them away. In my mind, she’s the frontrunner for the Best Actress Oscar.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller. We Need to Talk about Kevin opens in New York and LA on December 9th and will begin a platform release in February 2012.

A new clip from Roman Polanski’s comedy Carnage has been released. Based on the play God of Carnage, the film tells the story of two sets of parents who meet to settle a dispute between their children. The cast is spectacular—Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster, and John C. Reilly—and this is Polanski’s first foray into comedy. This clip centers on the parents getting to the crux of their meeting, as they’re hashing out why their children were fighting in the first place. Reilly is great here as he keeps getting sidetracked by bragging about a fight he had when he was a kid, and Foster keeps trying to reign him back in. I’m really looking forward to seeing the interplay between the quartet of actors when the film hits theaters.
