Warner Bros. has released a trailer for the upcoming dramedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. and it looks surprisingly charming. The film stars Steve Carell as a man struggling with his divorce and finding guidance from a ladies man played by Ryan Gosling. The strong cast also boasts Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon. Crazy, Stupid, Love. looks like it’s going to have a tricky balancing act with making the humor not too broad and the drama not to schmaltzy, but I’m betting that I Love You Phillip Morris directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa can pull it off.

The first trailer for Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious has been released. The film tells the story of a paralyzed DJ (played by the film’s scribe, Christopher Thornton) who somehow acquires the ability to heal, though is unable to make himself walk. Judging from the trailer, Ruffalo definitely shows some promise as a director. Factor in the top-notch cast, and I’m very interested in seeing how this film plays out. The flick premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January where it took home the Special Jury Prize.

This year, passes to the geek Mecca known as Comic-Con sold out almost instantly. Movies based on geek-centric properties like superhero movies and sci-fi sequels are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. With so much money and attention already being paid, does geek culture need a tribute? I’m not sure, but Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Greg Mottola have made one anyway with their new film, Paul. The film is a giant road-trip movie that travels not between destinations, but from one geek reference to the next. The jokes are mostly clever and inventive, but as the film wears on into its third act, the references become predictable and unworthy of the comic talents of everyone involved. Additionally, despite the great performances of the entire cast, there’s hardly any character development and the only reason we care about the leads is due to the charisma and delivery of the actors. Paul may be a film for geeks by geeks, but geeks shouldn’t expect a film at the level of Pegg and Frost’s previous collaborations.

In the next minute or so, Collider is going to be flooded with Paul coverage. That’s because last August, right after Comic-Con, I got to visit the set while the production was filming in New Mexico. With the embargo lifting this morning on all our coverage, Universal has graciously provided us with the first official images from the production. While all the images are sprinkled in with my coverage, I wanted to do a separate post so they’d be easy to find. So hit the jump to check out the first images of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Greg Mottola’s Paul! You might even see me in one of the shots. Read my set visit for how I’m in the picture.

With Sundance 2010 a little over a month away, over the next few weeks, we are going to be posting a ton of images from all the films premiering at the festival. While I’d love to tell you about the buzz on some of the Sundance films, almost none of them have been seen outside of the people at Sundance who make the decisions. That’s why posting these first look images is always so much fun, as this is the first time most of us have gotten any info on these movies and we can use the images and synopses to try and guess if the films will be good or bad. Of course with a film like Hesher (directed by Spencer Susser) – which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman – I’m pretty sure this will be a film worth checking out. Hit the jump for the synopsis and the images. Look for a lot more Sundance stuff from now till the festival:

Opening September 18th is the latest Jennifer Aniston dramedy “Love Happens”. The only reason I’m willing to give this a chance is her co-star is Aaron Eckhart. He’s a good actor and he’s always been super nice when doing interviews. But if he wasn’t in it…
Anyway, while this genre isn’t my thing, for many of you out there, this is why you go to the movies. And really…who am I to judge, as you probably wonder why I get super excited for any sci-fi film. So if you’re curious, after the jump are 5 clips from the film, along with the synopsis. Take a look.
