The writers and directors of the Harold and Kumar series of films are looking to delve into the other side of the law…sort of.  Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are reportedly attached to an untitled cop comedy based on a spec script from Blake McCormick (Cougartown).  The duo would also produce the film for Universal.  Variety reports that the story follows “two best friends who, dressed as cops for a costume party, are mistaken for real officers and forced to take a dangerous criminal back to the police station.”  Hurwitz and Schlossberg’s last effort for the studio was American Reunion

AMERICAN REUNION Blu-ray Review

by     Posted: July 18th, 2012 at 5:37 am

1999’s American Pie spawned an unlikely trilogy that concluded in 2003 as the film’s popularity seemed to peak and the story had few places left to go. Cut to nearly ten years later, and it feels like the studio said “it’s still a viable franchise, right? Let’s find out.” Franchise filmmaking is the meat and potatoes of studios these days, and American Reunion also goes the Fast Five route by bringing back the entire cast from the first movie. The film fizzled at the box office for a number of reasons, foremost would be that characters are thirty now, and there’s no innocence left to lose and there’s way less hope. Which means sex-hijinks are not as much fun. Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein and many more return for the film, and our review of American Reunion on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

The future of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s weird older brother, just got a little bit clearer, as the cable network has announced a bevy of new pilots that will compete for a schedule spot in 2012-2013. The most prominent of the bunch are an untitled animated continuation of the pot-fueled adventures of Harold & Kumar and Rick & Morty, a comedy from Community creator, Dan Harmon. The former is being scripted by franchise writers (and directors of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay) Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and will see stars John Cho and Kal Penn giving voice to animated versions of themselves. Rick & Morty, meanwhile, follows the adventures of an inventor and his dimwitted grandson. Hit the jump for more.

New Red-Band Trailer for AMERICAN REUNION

A new red-band trailer for American Reunion has gone online. Not a ton of footage is revealed in this new look at the fourth (real) entry in the American Pie franchise, but there are a few gags here and there that make it worth your time. I’m especially fond of Stifler’s reaction to his old hook-up buddy, and a much welcomed Stifler/Finch/Stifler’s mom moment. Earlier today we posted a Funny or Die video that featured Jason Biggs and a talking pie out for revenge that’s incredibly funny, so I’m hoping the same kind of humor carries over into American Reunion. Everything we’ve seen thus far has me optimistic that Reunion is a worthy successor to the previous three Pie films, and I’m eager to check the sequel out.

Hit the jump to check out the new trailer, and if you missed our interview with writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg be sure to take a gander. The film stars also stars Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, Katrina Bowden, Dania Ramirez, and Shannon Elizabeth. American Reunion opens on April 6th.

In the raunchy comedy American Reunion, East Great Falls High’s Class of 1999 is back, more than a decade later. Husband and wife duo Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) have come home to reminisce with Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Vicky (Tara Reid), Oz (Chris Klein), Heather (Mena Suvari), Finch (Eddie Kay Thomas) and Stifler (Seann William Scott), who out of all of them remains the same as he ever was, while Jim’s dad (Eugene Levy) gets to know Stifler’s mom (Jennifer Coolidge) a little better. In one long-overdue weekend, they will learn that time and distance cannot break the bonds of friendship.  For more on the film, here’s five clips.

At the film’s press day, writer/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (creators/writers of the Harold & Kumar films and big fans of the American Pie franchise) talked about getting all of these actors back together for this, why it’s a 13-year reunion, figuring out how to really push the envelope this time, balance the raunch with the heart of the story, the characters they were excited to expand upon, their process as directors on set, and the fact that there’s a lot of deleted scenes and extra material for the DVD. International Trailer for AMERICAN REUNION

An international trailer for American Reunion has gone online. The fourth entry in the American Pie franchise sees the return of basically every cast member from the first film as the characters come together for their high school reunion. This international trailer has a couple new scenes that we haven’t seen in the US trailers, and we also learn that in the UK the pic is called American Pie: Reunion (brand recognition!). I’m pretty excited for this fourquel as I was a fan of the first three films. The trailers evoke an odd sense of nostalgia and I’m intrigued to see how these characters reconcile the idea of “growing up.” Also, dick jokes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and Shannon Elizabeth. American Reunion opens April 6, 2012.

Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg Talk AMERICAN REUNION

As you may have noticed, last week I got the chance to sit down with screenwriters/directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg in anticipation of the release of the third film in their Harold & Kumar franchise, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. We talked about the film and the future of the franchise, as well as a Harold & Kumar animated series that they’re currently shopping to networks. Additionally, I talked to them a bit about American Reunion, which they wrote and directed. The film reunites the entire original cast of American Pie as they gather for their high school reunion.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg talked about how they got involved with the film, how the American Pie comedy differs from the comedy of Harold & Kumar, the plot of the film, what kind of music will be featured, how they plan to shock audiences in 2011, and much more. Hit the jump to watch the interview.

With the latest installment in the Harold & Kumar franchise, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (now playing in theaters), I got to sit down with Harold & Kumar creators Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg.  The duo wrote all three Harold & Kumar movies and they directed the second installment.  They’re also the writer/directors of the upcoming American Pie sequel American Reunion, and they’re working on a Harold & Kumar animated series (click here for what they had to say about the latter).

During the interview, Hurwitz & Schlossberg talked about the critical reaction to the franchise, if they fought with the studio over any aspect of the movie, how involved were they when the production was filming, the origins of Wafflebot, the future of Harold & Kumar movies, could a 4th film be in 4D with Smell-O-Vision, and how the 3rd film come together.  Hit the jump to watch and look for what they said about American Reunion in the coming days.

Jon Hurwitz Hayden Schlossberg HAROLD & KUMAR Animated Series interview slice

The latest installment in the Harold & Kumar franchise, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas just opened in theaters to an enthusiastically warm reception from audiences and critics alike. Just as the film was about to open, news broke of a possible animated series iteration of the characters. If you’re familiar with the franchise, it’s not hard to imagine a pretty great animated iteration of the White Castle-loving friends. Steve recently got the chance to sit down with Hayden Schlossberg and Jon Hurwitz, the writers of all three films in the Harold & Kumar series.

The two are behind the animated series version of everyone’s favorite multi-cultural duo, and talked pretty extensively about their plans for the series. They speak about what led them to the idea of an animated series, if the series would impact the feature film franchise, reveal that they’ve met with Comedy Central regarding the show, and talk about the involvement of Neil Patrick Harris in the half-hour animated series (John Cho and Kal Penn are already attached to voice their characters). Chris Klein Talks AMERICAN REUNION

Writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) have managed to bring every major cast member back for the fourth entry in the American Pie franchise, American Reunion. The film is currently shooting, and actor Chris Klein recently spoke a bit about what to expect from the film and where his character Oz is now:

[Oz] has moved to a beach house in Malibu. He’s found his way to Hollywood, where he works as a sportscaster on an NFL show. And he has a young girlfriend, Mia, played by Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), who is really, really funny. He gets his invite to the reunion and decides to go with his girlfriend.”

Hit the jump to see what else he had to say about the sequel. In addition to Klein, the film reunites Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge and Shannon Elizabeth.

Football Star Chad Ochocinco to Cameo in AMERICAN REUNION

by     Posted: June 29th, 2011 at 9:49 am

chad-ochocinco-slice-01

Writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg were able to throw a brilliant cameo into Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle by getting Neil Patrick Harris to play a dark, twisted parody of himself.  Keep in mind that this was before Harris had revitalized his career and the humor of having Harris wasn’t out of shock value but because it was just a funny and bizarre character.

Hopefully Hurwitz and Schlossberg will be able to bring that cameo magic to American Reunion with their casting of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.  Ochocinco is already a ridiculous figure in his own right having changed his last name to reflect the number 85 on his jersey, starring on a reality TV dating show on VH1, being a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, and playing for the Cincinnati Bengals.  I’m eager to see how Hurwitz and Schlossberg will make him even funnier for their movie.  Hit the jump to check out an image of Ochocinco with returning American Pie cast members Jason Biggs, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Chris Klein, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Seann William Scott.  The film opens April 6, 2012.

Dania Ramirez (Heroes) is the latest actor to join the cast of American Reunion. The fourth installment in the American Pie franchise reunites Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and the recently announced Shannon Elizabeth. Variety reports that Ramirez will play the “ugly duckling” from high school who is now a beautiful woman, and Finch’s (Thomas’ character) girlfriend. What ever will Stifler’s mom do?

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle wrote and are directing the flick, which is filming in Atlanta. In addition to returning cast members, Katrina Bowden (30 Rock) will play Klein’s character’s girlfriend. American Reunion is set for release on April 6th, 2012.

With all of the principal cast members set to return for the American Pie sequel American Reunion, the production has now turned to casting the all-important roles of “gratuitous hot girls.” An open casting call has gone out to fill the role of Kara, “the sweet girl next door you used to babysit, [who’s] now a senior in high school and a full blown hottie.” The casting call stresses that upper frontal nudity is required, but they’re looking for someone who is funny, smart and beautiful, because being smart is a necessity when playing gratuitous hot girl.

Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Coolidgeall  are all confirmed to return.  Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) will write and direct the flick that starts filming in Atlanta this month. American Reunion is set for release on April 6th, 2012. For more information on the open casting call, head over to www.americanreunioncasting.com
