Gerard Butler Looks to SLIDE into Youth Soccer Film

Quick, name your favorite American-made soccer movie.  If you said The Big Green: correct.  If all that came to mind were ineligibly foreign titles like  Shaolin Soccer or Bend it Like Beckham, I don’t blame you — Hollywood isn’t exactly pumping ‘em out with any sort of quality control.  Gerard Butler would like to change that, to the extent that he will revamp the baseball-centric project Confessions of a Little League Coach so that it revolves around youth soccer instead.

Butler was on board Confessions solely as a producer; now that the script from Robbie Fox (So I Married an Axe Murderer) is being reimagined as the soccer film Slide, the Scottish actor is in talks to star.  In an attempt to further Slide‘s international pedigree, Italian filmmaker Gabriele Muccino (Pursuit of Happyness) has been keen on the film for awhile as a potential directing gig, though may be held back by scheduling issues.  More after the jump:

Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieroit Move into HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET

by Laura Kelley    Posted: June 3rd, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Max Thieriot (Jumper) have been cast in Mark Tonderai’s horror film House at the End of the Street.  Lawrence will play a teenage girl who moves to a new neighborhood and discovers that a double murder occurred in the house across the street.  The girl befriends the crime’s only survivor, played by Theriot.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “is looking to be to Psycho what Disturbia was to Rear Window.”  Aaron Ryder, Peter Block, and Tim Williams are producing, along with Hal Lieberman and Jonathan Mostow.  David Loucka wrote the script based on a story by Mostow.

Jennifer Lawrence is earning raves for her performance in the indie drama Winter’s Bone, while Max Thieriot recently tested for a lead in Justice League and can next be seen in Wes Craven’s fall release My Soul to Take. Production on House at the End of the Street is set to begin this July in Ottawa.

SURROGATES Review

slice_surrogates_movie_bruce_willis_01.jpg

“Surrogates” is science fiction the way that Hollywood does science fiction–with no subtlety whatsoever.  The opening credits of the film do a great job in describing how our world was changed by “surrogates”, synthetic representations of real humans who control their surrogate remotely and live out their lives the same way.  The comment is loud and clear: our reliance on communication technology like the Internet or personal interaction via online avatars diminish the human experience and make us disconnected from each other.  And if we’re all living as creepy, pore-less RealDolls, then yeah, I can agree with that.  But the best science fiction doesn’t make a statement but asks questions.  “Surrogates” already has the answer before the opening credits are over.

Director Jonathan Mostow Exclusive Video Interview SURROGATES

Director Jonathan Mostow Surrogates.jpg

Opening this Friday is director Jonathan Mostow’s “Surrogates”. The film stars Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell and Rosamund Pike and it’s set in a future where most people don’t leave their homes. Instead, 98% of people live vicariously through their robot surrogates and they send them out to interact and work while they’re plugged in. But when a murder happens to someone while they’re plugged in and using their surrogate, Bruce Willis is forced to unplug to figure out what happened. So to help promote the film, I recently spoke with director Jonathan Mostow and he talked about the challenges of making “Surrogates” and the real world sci-fi aspect of the film. She talks about what got her involved, filming the action scenes, and she tells a funny story about filming in Boston and how there weren’t enough “good looking” people. I’ll let her explain.

3 Movie Clips from SURROGATES Starring Bruce Willis and Radha Mitchell

Disney has released 3 movie clips from their upcoming sci-fi movie “Surrogates”. The three clips go by rather quickly, but the first and third clip features new footage from the movie. If you watch all three, you’ll see Bruce Willis as a Surrogate and then you’ll see him after he’s ditched his robot self. While I’m looking forward to the movie as I’m a sci-fi junkie, the footage isn’t anything special. Judge for yourself after the jump:

THE SURROGATES Edit Bay Report – Plus Director Jonathan Mostow Interview

A few weeks ago I was invited – along with a few other journalists – to the editing room of director Jonathan Mostow’s “Surrogates”. While there we were shown a little bit of footage from the September 25th release and we were also able to ask Jonathan Mostow some questions. My report and the Q and A after the jump:

5 New Images from SURROGATES Starring Bruce Willis and Breaking Benjamin’s new Music Video ‘I Will Not Bow’

I have a few suggestions for the band Breaking Benjamin’s music video for the upcoming Bruce Willis flick, “Surrogates”.  First, don’t show the band.  They look like any other of today’s popular “rock” groups (I don’t care what genre you think you’re in; you must actually rock to be labeled as “rock”).  Also, don’t make your first lyrics “Now the dark begins to rise” because some emo kid is going to find the energy to sue for stealing his “poetry”.  Finally, I couldn’t make it past the first 45 seconds.  Maybe you’ll have more luck.  I will say that the scenes from “Surrogate” within the music video look very cool.  Actually, if you just turn off the sound and let it play, it shouldn’t be too bad.

We also have five new images from the film after the jump and you don’t have to listen to shitty modern rock to enjoy them!  “Surrogates” hits theatres on September 25th.

IGN posted a short, but interesting, video feature on “Surrogates”, the upcoming sci-fi thriller where everyone sits at home and control robots who live their lives for them. Series creator Robert Venditti, director Jonathan Mostow, and the Die Hard man himself, Bruce Willis, all discuss the concept behind the film. For those who still have no idea what “Surrogates” is, check out the trailer here. The rest of you, check out the featurette after the jump.

Director Jonathan Mostow Provides an Update on Namor flick, THE SUB-MARINER

Just an hour ago, I was asking director Jonathan Mostow questions about his new movie “The Surrogates”. Since the movie doesn’t get released until the end of September, most of what he said will have to wait. However, since he gave me a brief update on the long in development “Sub-Mariner” movie, I figured you’d like to see that right now. After the jump watch what Jonathan had to say…plus a bit more.

THE SURROGATES Movie Trailer

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: May 21st, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Bruce Willis.jpgThe first trailer for the Jonathan Mostow sci-fi thriller “The Surrogates” has been released and it’s after the jump. If you’re a fan of “I Robot”, “The Matrix” and “Strange Days”, you’re probably going to like this trailer.

If you haven’t heard of the film, “The Surrogates” stars Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell and Rosamund Pike and it’s set in a future where most people don’t leave their homes. Instead, people live vicariously through their surrogates as they send them out to interact and work while they’re plugged – kind of like “The Matrix”. But when a murder happens in this idyllic society, Bruce Willis is forced to unplug and figure out what happened.

The trailer looks interesting. Check it out after the jump:
