The cast and creative team behind freshman Fox drama Alcatraz were on hand at WonderCon 2012 to talk about what fans can expect from the season finale. In a mystery/action combination that has drawn parallels to Lost, Alcatraz follows a federal agent (Sam Neill of Jurassic Park) who enlists a police detective and an expert on the history of the island prison to help him track down a group of inmates that disappeared in 1963 and have since returned in present-day San Francisco to continue their criminal activities. The stars present at the panel were Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sarah Jones (Big Love), Parminder Nagra (E.R.), Jonny Coyne (The Bill) and Robert Forster (Heroes). Also present were executive producers Jennifer Johnson and Daniel Pyne, as well as co-creators Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt. Hit the jump to check out our panel recap for Alcatraz.

When I started doing web journalism as a hobby, I never thought it would lead me to a cell deep in the bowels of an infamous maximum security prison. But last week that is exactly where I found myself.
Of course, this was the kind of prison stay that included catered food, open bars – both on the cells and in the mess hall – and a screening of Fox’s new J.J. Abrams produced supernatural procedural Alactraz. Hit the jump for the whole story including some brief thoughts on the pilot and pictures from the event.

“This is Alcatraz. Things can always get worse.” Frankly, I hope they get a lot better when Alcatraz, the new supernaturally infused drama series from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production banner, premieres next year. However, from the looks of this trailer, Fox is holding back the mystery of the series for now with a tease that has Sam Neill welcoming viewers to Alcatraz much in the same way Stephen Lang welcomed everyone to Terra Nova earlier this year. With the producers and creator of Lost behind this new venture though, I’m hoping that my stay at Alcatraz will last longer than the few episodes I spent on Terra Nova before boredom set in eventually. Get a taste of the series after the jump to find out if it’s worth tuning in on Monday, January 16th.

The numbers may be cursed, but “4 8 15 16 23 42″ can apparently still net you some lottery money. Fans of Lost know the sequence of numbers as the ones Hugo “Hurley” Reyes (Jorge Garcia) used to play the lotto and won $156 million with. Unfortunately, a string of unfortunate incidents began to follow Hurley as a result with the numbers almost seeming to taunt him. But Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof tweets that 9,078 Lost nerds chose to play the numbers in the New York Mega Millions lottery and throw caution to the wind. Those lucky (?) folks ended up winning $150 as a result as last night’s numbers were 4-8-15-25-47 with a mega ball of 42. I imagine this means the winners will be beset with minor inconveniences like not being able to find their keys or being slightly late to get McDonald’s breakfast. However, I would recommend the winners avoid air travel for at least the next few weeks. [Image above via The Daily What]

The Fox drama Alcatraz is quickly developing into a dragnet for Lost fans. Key Lost writer Elizabeth Sarnoff is the showrunner. Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams is executive producer. And now, according to Deadline, Lost fan favorite Jorge Garcia will star.
The drama centers on a team FBI agents that investigates the mystery of a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners who disappeared thirty years ago. Garcia will play Dr. Diego Soto, the world’s foremost expert on Alcatraz, described as a “hippie geek.” Awesome.
Bryan Burk (Fringe) joins Abrams and Sarnoff as producer; Danny Cannon (CSI) will direct the pilot, which shoots in January in San Franciso and Vancouver. Glad to hear they’ll shoot some of the show on location in Frisco. The aerials, at the very least.

About a month ago we reported Weezer’s new CD was called Hurley and the cover featured Lost’s Jorge Garcia. While I figured we’d never write about their pairing again, the other night at an Axe party in Hollywood, Jorge Garcia actually got on stage with the band and performed sang Perfect Situation with Rivers Cuomo. If you remember, Garcia recently sang in the opening segment of this year’s Emmys, as he was part of that great Glee sketch. It’s really worth watching if you missed it.
While we normally don’t cover music, I’m a huge fan of Weezer, and figured some of you might like to see Garcia and the band perform. I’ve also embedded clips of the band covering Kids by MGMT, Poker Face by Lady Gaga, and performing My Name is Jonas with My Chemical Romance at the same party.

We already gave you a list of the winners from the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys (Link 8), but if the ceremony was just nominees being read and awards being handed out then the telecast wouldn’t be over three hours long would it? So to follow-up, we’ve put together some of the highlights form the show itself complete with video for your hungry eyes and ears. Below you’ll find a great comedic bit featuring the cast of Modern Family receiving some advice on how to make their next season even more hilarious. Remedies include George Clooney and Family Guy’s Stewie Griffin as new cast members and even the use of 3-D to show off Sofia Vergara’s…talents. In addition there’s a couple great acceptance speeches and other laughs to be had just below the jump.

Weezer has been on a roll recently. Since 2008, the band has released two albums with one more coming out on September 14th. The title of the bands newest CD is Hurley and the recently released cover image is confirming what some people had claimed was a reference to the TV show Lost. Spinner is reporting that the CD’s cover does in fact have Jorge Garcia, the actor who plays the character Hurley on the hit show, with a grin only Garcia can produce As lead singer Rivers Cuomo said to Spinner,
“We struggled super hard trying to come up with an album title, trying to find some kind of phrase that summed up the whole aesthetic behind the album: ‘Heavy Mental,’ ‘Smaller Than Life’. I was coming up with all kinds of stuff, but ultimately, we just went with some random word that doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia — it just had this amazing vibe. We didn’t want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as ‘the Hurley record’ even if left it without that title, so we just called it ‘Hurley.’ No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face.”

It’s no surprise that if there was a character you wanted to play when Lost first started, it would be Sawyer (or Locke). Thirteen audition tapes from the original cast (minus Terry O’Quinn) have landed online and it’s fascinating to see Matthew Fox, Jorge Garcia, and Dominic Monaghan all try out for the character. Of course, when you see Josh Holloway’s audition, it’s hard to imagine that he didn’t get the role in the room. One of the most impressive aspects of Lost is that it’s been able to maintain the strength of its best characters (or at least my personal favorites). Sawyer, Locke, Ben, and Hurley have been fantastic throughout the run of the series. But watching these tapes, the biggest challenge is in seeing the actors play
Hit the jump to see the thirteen audition tapes, which also include Naveen Andrews, Ian Somerhalder, Maggie Grace, Harold Perrineau, Daniel Dae Kim, Emile de Ravin, Malcolm David Kelly all auditioning for the roles they eventually got, plus Yunjin Kim auditioning for Kate. There’s also a joke audition from Comic-Con of Michael Emerson trying out for the role of Hurley.

Artist Graham Annable has combined the greatness that is Lost with the greatness that is the original Star Wars trilogy to show how the characters of both series can relate to each other. We see how Darth Vader and Benjamin Linus can sit down and have a drink or how Jabba the Hutt and Hurley can share a meal.
Check out some of Annable’s Lost-Star Wars doodles [via The Awesomer] after the jump and click here to see more of his work. I’ve also included a couple of his stand-alone Lost work that I found funny.

Most everyone except Emile De Ravin’s Claire Littleton returns for Season Five of Lost. Even some of the dead ones. To that point, when Season Five opens Locke (Terry O’Quinn) is introduced in a coffin and yet spends most of the rest of the season walking around alive (?). Some members of lost flight have returned to the real world, including Dr. Jack Shepherd (Mathew Fox), Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Kate (Evangeline Lily), while others still stuck on the island are lost in time, with Sawyer (Josh Holloway) settling into the Dharma institute as one of its head security agents. Everything is in chaos, and it looks like those who left the island must return to salve the time-jumping. My review of Season Five of Lost on Blu-ray after the jump.

Even though Comic-Con was a week ago, I’ve still got a few interviews left to post. Due to attending some press junkets this past weekend in New York, I missed my self imposed Sunday deadline. But my new goal is to have everything posted by tonight, so get ready for the last of my video interviews. Up first, Michael Emerson (Ben) and Jorge Garcia (Hugo) from “Lost”.
While I didn’t get too much time with either actor, I did manage to get a few questions in on Comic-Con and I asked Jorge about his “Empire Strikes Back” episode from last season. Take a look after the jump:

Until a week ago, I had never seen more than thirty seconds of Lost. There’s a good reason for this: I don’t watch TV. That’s not because I’m a snob, it’s because I always have a pile of movies to watch. And as that is the case, making time to watch television has always been a luxury I’ve denied myself. So, with that in mind there’s going to be two types of people reading this. People like me who never watched the show, and those who are religious about it, or got turned off at some point. I will gear the first part of the review for those who haven’t seen it and the second part for those who have. It’s all after the jump:
