Director Joshua Marston Talks THE FORGIVENESS OF BLOOD, Aaron Sorkin’s HBO Series THE NEWSROOM and More

The Forgiveness of Blood (opening in theaters on February 24^th) is a drama from writer/director Joshua Marston (Maria Full of Grace) that focuses on an Albanian family caught up in a blood feud. Nik (Tristan Halilaj) is a carefree teenager in a small town, until his world comes to a screeching halt when his father and uncle become entangled in a land dispute that leads a fellow villager murdered, and a centuries-old code of law entitles the dead man’s family to take the life of a male from Nik’s family as retribution. With his uncle in jail and his father in hiding, Nik is the prime target, indefinitely confined to the home while his younger sister, Rudina (Sindi Lacej), is forced to leave school and take over the family business.

During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Joshua Marston talked about telling this story of the clash between antiquated traditions and the more modern lives of the young people whose futures are threatened by them, the challenges in taking a story about a place that people aren’t familiar with and simplifying it to make all of the information universal, and his feelings about the film being disqualified as the Albanian entry for the Academy Awards, in large part because he’s American. He also talked about how he came to be working with Aaron Sorkin, directing an episode of his upcoming HBO drama The Newsroom, and how he hopes his next feature will be a remake of the Italian thriller, The Double Hour. Joshua Marston to Write and Direct Remake of Italian Thriller THE DOUBLE HOUR

An English-language remake of the 2009 Italian thriller The Double Hour is on its way, Joshua Marston will be the man to bring it to fruition. Risky Business reports that the Maria Full of Grace director will write and direct the Americanized remake.  The original film, directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, centered on a hotel maid and an ex-cop who fall in love after meeting at a speed-dating event, but when they retreat to the ex-cop’s employer’s house for a romantic evening, armed intruders arrive and “throw light on secrets from their past.” The 2009 film starred Ksenia Rappoport and Filippo Timi. I’ve yet to catch the film myself, but it sounds like an intriguing premise, and Marston isn’t necessarily a one-note/commercial director, so the remake should be interesting. The film will be produced by Roy Lee and Nicola Giuliano. Hit the jump to watch the trailer for the Italian original.

16 Movie Clips from NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU (Almost 16 Minutes of Footage)

With the short film anthology “New York, I Love You” (a sort of sequel to “Paris, je t’aime”) set for release October 16^th, Vivendi Entertainment has released a ton of clips and I’ve posted all of them after the jump. While most film’s get four to eight clips released for promotional purposes, due to how large the cast is and how each person needs a clip when promoting the movie on a talk show, the studio has released a whopping 16 clips and it’s about sixteen minutes of the movie. So if you’ve been waiting for the film, you can see a lot of it right now. If you’re not familiar with “New York, I Love You”, the film’s got a huge cast and eleven directors telling stories about New York City and love. Take a look:

The first trailer for Vivendi Entertainment’s “New York, I Love You” has been released. This is the film that’s like “Paris, je t’aime”, but while that one had no connective tissue, somehow “New York, I Love You” ties most or all of the short films together.

While a feature film made up of a lot of short films might not appeal to all of you, the cast is ridiculous and it’s something I can’t wait to see. If you’re curious, watch the trailer after the jump. I’ve also included all the director’s involved and the full cast:

The first poster has been released for “New York, I Love You”. This is the anthology film that features many short films about love in the city that never sleeps. While many of you might not be excited about a feature film that’s made up of only shorts, take a look at this cast:
