Universal has been releasing Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Dazed and Confused together for a while now. I guess it makes sense. They’re both “party” films in that it’s hard to imagine Fast Times having the impact it did without Sean Penn’s Jeff Spicoli character, and Dazed and Confused second half is virtually one long party. Universal has embraced that, often selling both with pot jokes. Fast Times follows a group of teens (including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, Penn, Judge Reinhold and more) as they look for love and deal with sex in high school, while Confused follows a set of juniors (including Jason London, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey and Adam Goldberg) as they are about to become seniors and become rulers of the school. Our reviews of both Fast Times and Dazed and Confused on Blu-ray follow after the jump.

See Kathyrn Bigelow hunt Bill Paxton in a James Cameron Music Video – Yes, Really

Much has been made about the upcoming Oscars battle between exes Kathyrn Bigelow and James Cameron – with their movies, The Hurt Locker and Avatar, respectively, tied with a leading nine nominations each – but as you’ll see from this crazy music video, they often had a lot of fun when they were still on speaking terms.

The clip is for the song “Reach” by an ’80s new wave band called Martini Ranch, which just happened to feature actor Bill Paxton (which was all news to me until just now), and the video was directed by Cameron himself. As you’ll see on the jump, it’s the definition of ’80s excess, and will have you yearning for the days when music videos at their best were elevated to mini-movies. In something that looks like a surreal mashup of Bigelow’s Near Dark (still her best movie in my book) and Deadwood, Paxton stars as a bank robber on the run in the Wild West, and Near Dark stars Adrian Pasdar and Lance Henriksen make appearances, as does Judge Reinhold. Best of all, however, is that Bigelow herself leads an all-female posse of bounty hunters on his trail, and to be as piggish as possible, just looks sensationally hot doing it.

To tell you any more would just spoil the fun, so hit the jump for the video.

Exclusive BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 News

Last night, Moviehole reported Rosewood and Taggart (Judge Reinhold and John Ashton) would be returning to the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise in the upcoming 4th film. If you don’t remember, John Ashton wasn’t in the third film, and a new character (Hector Elizondo) was written in to take his place. Moviehole also reported screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt’s spec script “Dying Day” was being used for the story and it was being reworked with the Beverly Hills Cop characters.

Unfortunately, their news was a bit premature, as I just spoke to a very trusted source and they told me it’s not clear who will be back on “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ as the studio is hiring a new writer and they are starting over.

While I would love to see a reunion of the original cast in “Beverly Hills Cop 4″, with the studio hiring a new writer, it’s clear this project is nowhere close to being in front of the camera.  More as we get it.
