Not long after Warner Bros. was reportedly getting cold feet with the swelling budget of David Dobkin’s Arthur & Lancelot, it looks like the studio has officially hit the pause button. The film, starring Kit Herington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Darkest Hour) in a reimagined Arthurian legend, was supposed to open March 15, 2013. Dobkin (The Wedding Crashers) reportedly informed cast and crew that it “wasn’t looking good,” although studio insiders confirm they’re trying to make the project work. Warner envisions the tone of Arthur & Lancelot to be in a similar vein to their Sherlock Holmes franchise, but will have to negotiate budget and scheduling difficulties. Herington, will return to Game of Thrones this spring while Kinnaman is expected to segue into the film shoot after wrapping on AMC’s The Killing. The project may move forward without one or both of the actors. Hit the jump for news regarding the delay of Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer 3D and Rock of Ages.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. The film tells the story of a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who falls in love with a larger-than-life rocker (Tom Cruise) set against the backdrop of the 1980s music scene, featuring songs from the likes of Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon. The gist of the trailer is that if you like 80s rock, you’ll probably like a musical that only features 80s rock and uses it as a basis for the plot. But there’s also an important lesson: When sleazy guy played by Paul Giamatti give you a chance at fame, you take him up on his obviously legit offer.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster. The film also stars Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mary J. Blige. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Rock of Ages opens on June 1, 2012.

I’m writing you this afternoon less than an hour removed from my first trip to the little slice of Americana that is a Bass Pro Shop. For those unfamiliar with the chain, imagine a store with Wal-Mart-esque square footage that devotes itself entirely to all things outdoor. While I’ll admit to being a little out of my element (okay, way out of my element), even an outdoor novice like myself can relish the opportunity to have their picture taken with a taxidermic grizzly bear. For those of you waiting for me to somehow make a connection between my Bass Pro experience and this week’s “Top 5″, this ellipsis is about as close as you’re going to get…
…In this week’s installment you’ll find the much-anticipated first trailer from writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, the first poster for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D, some new set photos from Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, and interviews for both The Thing and Craig Brewer’s Footloose. Hit the jump for a brief recap and link to each.

I understand the allure of musicals, but the general idea behind a film with dancing as its selling point has always left me on the outside. You see, I can’t dance. At all. I can’t sing either, but singing isn’t nearly as popular as getting out on a dance floor and shaking it to some music. Yet that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the remake of the 1984 classic Footloose. While a lot of the themes and ideas may feel fit for the current MTV generation (do they even listen to music on that channel anymore?), Craig Brewer’s version is a rocking good time that will have you tapping your toes and nodding your head. Although the plot may not win any awards, it never treads down the path of utter ineptitude as much as it might in lesser hands. The premise was always hard to swallow, yet it is pulled off with a wink, a smile, and some actual sincerity. Hit the jump for my full review.

After conquering the ballroom on Dancing with the Stars and soaring to the top of the country music charts with her singing, of course Julianne Hough would also want to try her hand at acting on the big screen. And, what better way for her to do so then as the female lead in director Craig Brewer’s take on the 1984 classic Footloose. As Ariel, the rebellious preacher’s daughter, Hough got to utilize her known talent as a dancer, while drawing from her own experiences growing up in a religious family where she had to fight for attention among her brothers and sisters. What results is a performance that not only can she be proud of, but that will also establish her as a true triple threat.
At the film’s press day, Julianne Hough sat down with Collider for this exclusive interview about the challenge of starting from scratch with her acting career, her desire to fight for the role because it was something she wanted to show people that she could do, how much she really identified with Ariel, the instant chemistry that she had with her co-star Kenny Wormald, and how important dancing is, in her own life. She also talked about how incredible the experience of making Rock of Ages was, how excited she is to work with Diablo Cody for Lamb of God, and how she plans to start a production company with her brother, Derek Hough. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Paramount has sent over four clips from the remake of Footloose. Kenny Wormald stars as the city kid who moves to conservative Midwestern town and once there, he ends up leading the repressed teenagers into a rebellion against the town fathers, who have outlawed rock & roll and dancing. Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Ray McKinnon, and Andie MacDowell also star. Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan) directed the remake.
I got to see the film before doing an interview with Brewer and I stand by what I said then: “I’m going to tell you something you might not believe, but I swear it’s the truth: the remake of Footloose is actually pretty great. Brewer has taken the original story, made a few changes, added his unique style, and the end result is something that audiences are going to love.” Watch the clips after the jump and look for our interviews with the cast next week. Footloose opens October 14.

This past weekend, Collider got the opportunity to sit down with the stars and director of Footloose, to talk about their take on the classic ‘80s film. Clearly fans of the original, and equally as passionate about this version of the story, which has some minor additions and updates that allow for a grittier feel, everyone involved is eager to share stories about their experience making it.
While we will hold that portion of the interview until closer to the film’s October 14th release, we did want to share what Julianne Hough had to say about her experience making Rock of Ages, about a small-town girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980′s rock music scene. Admitting that she almost didn’t sign on because she wasn’t sure about doing another musical until she learned about who would be in the cast, she was very excited to perform such songs as a “More than Words” and “Heaven” mash-up (which apparently almost didn’t make it into the finished product), “Rock You Like A Hurricane” (which she did with Tom Cruise), and “Harden my Heart” and “Shadows of the Night” (which she got to do with Mary J. Blige). She also talked about how scary it is to take a straight acting role, for Diablo Cody’s Lamb of God, but said that she’s up for the challenge. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Mandate Pictures has just sent out a press release announcing that Russell Brand and Julianne Hough (Footloose) will star in an untitled comedy directed by Diablo Cody from her own script. We previously reported that Brand was offered the male lead and that Hough was in the running for the female lead so it looks like that all panned out. However, the film was previously titled “Lamb of God” but now it looks like that title has been dropped. The untitled comedy “follows a sheltered young woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash and decides to go to Las Vegas to experience the wild side of life. On her journey, she meets an unlikely companion (Brand) who inadvertently helps her find her true self.” Sounds a little cornball but I have faith that Cody has taken an interesting approach to the material.
Hit the jump for the full press release. Mandate says the project is on a fast track for a spring start.

Paramount has released a handful of new posters for the remake of Footloose. They’re pretty stylish, and show off that grimy look we’ve come to expect from writer/director Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan). The marketing department isn’t totally abandoning the cheese factor, though. Each poster is blazened with the Kenny Loggins lyric “Cut Loose” down the right side—a phrase which can’t be read with a straight face. (I hear the next batch of posters revolve around kicking off your Sunday shoes.)
Yet by our account, the movie vastly exceeds your expectations for a remake of Footloose. To get a better sense, watch the new trailer here. Kenny Wormwald, Julianne Hough, and Dennis Quaid star in the October 14 release. See the new posters after the jump.

Paramount has released a new trailer for the remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon movie Footloose. Kenny Wormald stars as a city kid who moves to conservative Midwestern town: “Once there, he ends up leading the repressed teenagers into a rebellion against the town fathers, who have outlawed rock & roll and dancing.” Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Ray McKinnon, and Andie MacDowell also star. Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan) directed the remake.
I got to see the film a few weeks ago and as I said in the intro to my recent interview with Brewer, “I’m going to tell you something you might not believe, but I swear it’s the truth: the remake of Footloose is actually pretty great. Brewer has taken the original story, made a few changes, added his unique style, and the end result is something that audiences are going to love.” Watch the new trailer after the jump. Footloose opens October 14.

The first trailer and poster for director Craig Brewer’s (Black Snake Moan) Footloose remake are now available online. Featuring some nifty dance moves and a “Debbie Downer” turn from Dennis Quaid, the film looks to have plenty of style and hopefully enough substance to pacify moviegoers looking for more than a rurally set Step Up. Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, and Andie MacDowell star alongside Quaid in the pic which aims to update Kevin Bacon’s 1984 original about a city boy who moves to a small town where dancing (which is apparently his number one skill) is outlawed.
Check out the trailer and poster after the jump. Footloose hits theaters on October 14th.

News is moving slowly today so you know what that means: a lone new image from director Craig Brewer’s (Black Snake Moan) Footloose remake gets its own story. Starring Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Ray McKinnon, and Andie MacDowell, the film will retell the story of a city boy (Wormald) who brings sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll (but mostly just dancing, really) to a conservative small town. The film hits theaters later this year on October 14th and its first trailer is set to debut next Tuesday, June 21st. Hit the jump to check out the new image. New set photos from Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages and the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges have gone online. The photos from Rock of Ages show romantic leads Julianne Hough and Diego Gonzalez Boneta having a fun 80s time as they rollerblade down the boulevard. The musical also stars Tom Cruise, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
As for The Three Stooges, we have a good look at Larry (Sean Hayes) and Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) but Curly (Will Sasso) has his back turned to the camera. If you can’t imagine what Will Sasso looks like bald, Google “Will Sasso” and you won’t have to use your imagination. Co-star Sofia Vergara also tweeted some pictures of herself looking a little worse for wear, but it’s Sofia Vergara. A few fake bruises don’t make her look any less gorgeous. Hit the jump to check out all of the set photos. Rock of Ages is set for June 1, 2012 while The Three Stooges is due out sometime in 2012.

Some new images from Craig Brewer’s (Hustle & Flow) upcoming remake of Footloose have appeared online. The original film told the story of a city kid who loves dancing that ends living in a place where dancing and rock & roll have been outlawed. It looks like not much has changed in the remake after looking at these pictures, but I am still looking forward to seeing what Craig Brewer brings to the table with this one. The film stars Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Ray McKinnon, and Andie MacDowell. Hit the jump to take a look at the pictures and to read about how Brewer’s film will be different from the 80s classic.

Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages has been searching for months to find its “Constance”, the journalist who sleeps with decadent rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) even though she’s supposed to be writing an expose about him. The project courted Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, but both actresses passed on the film after they were offered roles in superhero movies (Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises and Adams for Man of Steel). Today, Rock of Ages finally has its Constance as Deadline reports that Malin Akerman will take the role. In addition to Tom Cruise, Akerman will be joining Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Rock of Ages is the latest film to fall into Akerman’s packed schedule. She’s currently shooting Medallion with Nicolas Cage, she replaced Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story, she’s co-starring in the romantic comedy The Giant Mechanical Man, and she’s starring opposite Ethan Hawke in the spy thriller The Numbers Station. Akerman can currently be seen in theaters co-starring in the war drama The Bang Bang Club and she has two more films coming out later this year: the indie crime thriller Criminal Empire for Dummy’s and the David Wain comedy Wanderlust. Rock of Ages is due out June 1, 2012.
