Mykelti Williamson Talks JUSTIFIED Season 3

Developed by Graham Yost and based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard, the hit FX drama series Justified has proven itself to be one of the strongest written and best acted shows on television. One of the new additions for Season 3 has been actor Mykelti Williamson, as the mysterious Limehouse, a man who knows enough secrets to make almost everyone in Harlan uncomfortable.

During this recent interview about his role on the show, Mykelti Williamson talked about not knowing whether or not he’ll be returning next season, the fun of being kept in the dark about where things are going, what he thinks of his character, how much he enjoys watching the show as a viewer, his favorite scene in the finale, and that he keeps a character Bible of his own potential storylines that he hopes to suggest, should he return. FX Orders Fourth Season of JUSTIFIED

While Fox may have gotten rid of Terra Nova to the chagrin of some sci-fi fans, the crime thriller fans should be pleased with the media giant as their cable channel FX has just renewed Justified for a fourth season. Six new episodes remain in the currently airing third season with the finale coming on April 10th, but the network already knows that it wants more of Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

Series creator Graham Yost says, “There are many reasons all of us on Justified are grateful to get a chance to do another season. We get to do more work with amazing actors, writers, producers, directors, musicians, editors and a jaw-droppingly talented crew.  We get to keep doing a show that appeals to a wide demographic: people in Harlan, retired US Marshals, criminals (we honestly did hear that), and, most happily, our guide, our muse, Elmore Leonard.  Best of all, we get to keep doing a show on FX (and while that may sound like craven ass-kissing, when you look at their roster, you can’t help but feel grateful to be on that list).” For the full press release including publicity fluff from the network and ratings, hit the jump.

Joelle Carter Talks JUSTIFIED and Desire to Shoot an Indie Feature in Florida

On FX’s drama series Justified, actress Joelle Carter plays Ava Crowder, the woman behind enigmatic bad boy Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). Now that the two are right in the thick of Harlan’s criminal activities Ava has chosen to go all-in, standing beside and supporting her man.

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Joelle Carter sat down with Collider for this exclusive interview about how her character has been evolving, finding her place among all of the men in Harlan, what Ava’s goals are now, working with both Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins, wanting to continue to do work of equal quality, her desire to direct, and the hope that she’ll get to do some comedy. As Season 2 ended the Bennett family’s hold over Harlan County and marked the return of Raylan’s (Olyphant) old nemesis/friend Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) to the criminal life, Season 3 picked up with him finding out that he and his crew aren’t the only ones making a play to rule the Harlan underworld. Now, Raylan finds himself dealing with a pregnant ex-wife (Natalie Zea) while facing off against dirty politicians, a mysterious man named Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson), and an enterprising criminal from the Motor City (Neal McDonough).

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, showrunner/executive producer/writer Graham Yost talked to Collider for this exclusive interview about where this season is headed, how the new criminal element will affect things, that he’s hoping to get Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) and Patton Oswalt (Young Adult) on as guest stars since they’re both big fans of the show, the pressure of not repeating yourself while living up to what fans expect, and how far ahead they plan out where things are going with the story. Populated with dirty politicians, hidden fortunes, a mysterious man named Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson) and an enterprising and lethal criminal from the Motor City (Neal McDonough), things are heating up for the law enforcement in Harlan, in Season 3 of the critically acclaimed, tightly written and expertly acted drama series.

Walton Goggins is one of my absolute favorite actors, and people, on the planet. After playing the always riveting and often explosive Detective Shane Vendrell on The Shield, he went on to accomplish the impossible by topping that performance with his current one as the enigmatic Boyd Crowder on the FX drama series Justified, opposite Timothy Olyphant. And when he’s not on that show, he’s mixing it up with various roles in feature films, in genres that are all over the map.

While at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Collider got to sit down with the intriguing, fascinating and super-dedicated actor for this exclusive interview about the journey that Boyd Crowder will take in Season 3, how his character has finally accepted that this is his life and his making the most of it, what his relationship with Ava (Joelle Carter) has meant to him, and how great it’s been to develop the unique and unpredictable back-and-forth that Boyd has with Raylan Givens (Olyphant). FX Announces Midseason Premiere Dates for JUSTIFIED, ARCHER and New Animated Series UNSUPERVISED

We’ve already learned that Burt Reynolds is stopping by Archer as himself, and seen a brief tease of the forthcoming third season of Justified with Timothy Olyphant, and now FX has announced when all this goodness will premiere for their midseason schedule in January. The cable network revealed in a press release that Justified will make its anticipated return on Tuesday, January 17th in its normal 10/9c timeslot with the new season following Raylan Givens’ nemesis Boyd Crowder and his crew learning they aren’t the only ones making a play to rule the Harlan underworld. Now Raylan finds himself facing off against dirty politics, hidden fortunes, a mysterious man named “Limehouse” and an enterprising and lethal criminal from the Motor City. New Teaser Trailer for Season Three of JUSTIFIED

It’s crazy to think that Walton Goggins and his racist character Boyd Crowder almost bit the dust at the end of the pilot for Justified, but after focus group tests showed the audience absolutely loved the character, he was made to stick around, and has lasted into the series’ third season. Now he’s featured alongside Emmy nominated star Timothy Olyphant with shotguns blazing in this brief teaser for the new season set to premiere in January. There’s not really any new footage from the series itself, but this teaser is still pretty kick-ass. Watch it after the jump.

Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson Cast as Villains in JUSTIFIED Season Three; Rose Leslie Joins GAME OF THRONE Season Two

The two actors both were featured in the canceled NBC drama Boomtown awhile back, but now Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson are teaming with that shows executive producer Graham Yost on his current series Justified starring Timothy Olyphant. EW reports the two actors will play two villains on the third season of the FX drama with McDonough playing Quarles, a Detroit mobster in a sharp suit who comes to Kentucky with visions of becoming a crimelord and Williamson playing Limehouse, a man who lives in a small black town in Harlan County and who will do whatever it takes, legal or otherwise, to protect his holler. The two characters are said to show up pretty early in the season which is slated to begin sometime in January. The show has been praised with some Emmy love, including a nomination for Timothy Olyphant and win for Margo Martindale last month, so here’s hoping they keep the momentum in the new season.

2011 Primetime Emmy Award Winners Announced; Winners include Peter Dinklage, Kyle Chandler, and Martin Scorsese

Tonight was the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and the winner’s list included some great names.  Perhaps the best win of the night was Peter Dinklage picking up Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Game of Thrones.  Not far behind was Kyle Chandler finally picking up an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series for the final season of Friday Night Lights (the show also picked up an Emmy for Best Writing in a Drama Series).  Martin Scorsese picked up an award for his direction of Boardwalk Empire‘s pilot episode, and ubiquitous character actor Margo Martindale won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Mags Bennett on FX’s Justified.

The top awards for Best Drama, Best Comedy, and Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series went to last year’s winners Mad Men, Modern Family, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, respectively.  Best Miniseries or TV Movie was awarded to  PBS’ Downtown Abbey while CBS’ The Amazing Race picked up another Emmy for Best Reality-Competition Program.  Hit the jump for the full list of winners.

As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for FX Networks, President and General Manager John Landgraf took some time to talk about the growth of their comedies – Wilfred, Louie, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League and Archer – the strength of their dramas – Sons of Anarchy, Justified and Rescue Me – their hopes for their new shows, including American Horror Story from Ryan Murphy, and what they are looking for, in the future.  Here are the most interesting points:

• In 2011, FX is on track to achieve the highest ratings in all measures, in the 17-year history of the channel, up 17% in adults 18-49 and 18% in total viewers in prime. They have also achieved their goal of programming original dramas and comedies, all year round.
• FX has ordered a Season 8 and 9 of the acclaimed hit comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with an option for a Season 10, making it the longest-running live-action comedy in basic cable history. In addition, FX Productions is entering into a three-year exclusive television overall deal with RCG – the production company run by Sunny creators/executive producers Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.
• The full 13-episode third season of Archer will return in January 2012, with three episodes airing this Fall, behind the first three episodes of Season 7 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which premieres on September 15^th. The Season 3 premiere of The League will debut after Sunny on October 6^th.
• Wilfred was the highest-rated first season of a comedy ever on FX, leading them to renew it for a second season of 13 episodes, while Louie has also been renewed for third season of 13.
• American Horror Story, from Glee executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, is being established as a serialized saga that can go on for multiple years, with subsequent seasons either taking place in the past or in the present, depending on how the story unfolds.
• Powers (in the vein of David Fincher’s Seven or Zodiac),  based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming and starring Jason Patric, and Outlaw Country, a family drama set against the backdrop of Southern organized crime, are the next two drama pilots that FX will be looking at for possible pick-up

2011 Emmy Nominations Announced; MILDRED PIERCE, MAD MEN, and BOARDWALK EMPIRE Lead with Most Nominations

The nominations for the 2011 Primetime Emmys have been announced.  HBO, as always, led the pack as the miniseries Mildred Pierce picked up 21 nominations, Boardwalk Empire picked up 18 nominations, and Game of Thrones nabbed 13 nominations.  Also, as usual, Mad Men held the most nominations of any dramatic series by picking up 19 nods.  The Emmys also once again overlooked Community in favor of garbage like Glee, but they also finally showed Parks and Recreation some love.  It’s also cool that Louis C.K. (Louie), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Walton Goggins (Justified) picked up nominations, but overlooking Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) was just one of the many snubs that the Emmys have become known for.

MODERN FAMILY, MAD MEN, and More Win at First Annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards

Earlier this month, we listed the nominees for the first Critics’ Choice Television Awards from the Broadcast Television Journalists Association. Now the awards have been handed out and we have the full list of winners which include Modern Family rightfully winning “Best Comedy Series” and Mad Men taking home “Best Drama Series” along with star Jon Hamm winning “Best Actor in a Drama Series.” The always fantastic Neil Patrick Harris took home the award for “Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” for his consistently hilarious work on How I Met Your Mother, while the award for “Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series” ended up in a tie. Television Critics Association Awards Reveal Nominees Including PARKS AND RECREATION, COMMUNITY, JUSTIFIED and More

We just recently found out the nominees for the first Critics Choice Television Awards, but now we have the list of fantastic shows and talents which have been nominated for the long-running Television Critics’ Association awards. This year the 27th annual awards nominees prove that the TCA just knows what they’re talking about when it comes to quality television, even moreso than the primtetime Emmys. THR unveiled the list with Game of Thrones, Justified and Parks and Recreation leading the pack with four nominations each including love for those series’ cast members like Peter Dinklage, Timothy Olyphant and Amy Poehler. Once again it’s also great to see Community and Louie get some respect along with respective cast members Danny Pudi and Louis C.K. also receiving nominations. FX Renews JUSTIFIED and ARCHER for Another Season

The outlook was good last week that FX would renew both their animated comedy Archer and their modern western crime drama Justified and now the cable network has made it official. Both series will get a third season after ratings improved for both of the series. Justified improved its season one ratings by 8 percent throughout the current season two run (which still has six episodes left to air) while Archer actually picked up 22 percent in the ratings between the series’ first and second seasons. Even though Lights Out couldn’t stay alive, at least fans have kept these two FX series around for another season.
