Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, and Peter Dinklage to Star in A CASE OF YOU

Justin Long is gearing up to stretch his filmmaking chops behind the camera. Long wrote and will produce the indie A Case of You, which he will also star in alongside Evan Rachel Wood and Peter Dinklage. Variety reports that the story centers on “a young writer who tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but finds himself in a real mess when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act.” While the logline seems a bit “teen comedy”, I’m encouraged by the cast and, ultimately, Long’s involvement. He’s been a standout in a large number of films over the past few years and I’m interested to see something that comes straight from his creative voice. Also, Dinklage rules. Neither Wood nor Long have anything (officially) on the immediate horizon, but Dinklage can be seen in the second season of Game of Thrones starting April 1st on HBO. He returns to film season three later this summer.

Sundance 2012: FOR A GOOD TIME, CALL… Review

Eventually, society will accept that people saying dirty words won’t be the downfall of Western civilization.  Over the past few decades, words that weren’t permissible on television have become commonplace.  I believe within ten years, “fuck” will be used as casually as “ass” or “damn” on network sitcoms.  In this way, For a Good Time, Call… is a trailblazer in using a sitcom-y premise and filling it up with filthy language.  All of the clichés are still in place, the humor is inoffensive (unless you’re one of the vulgarity-western-downfall people), and the film provides a nice little distraction.

First Trailer for ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, the third movie in the series, and it’s absolutely painful. Really and truly. It’s basically Lost with annoying pop song-singing Chipmunks. The story finds Jason Lee and his Chipmunks “chipwrecked” on a desert island after a luxurious cruise. Lee is split up from his chipmunks, and said chipmunks wonder how they’re ever going to find their master in between singing Lady Gaga songs. I guess kids will enjoy it, but this is one of those kids movies that has zero appeal to the parents that are dragged along.

The voice cast features Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, and Christina Applegate.  Jason Lee, David Cross, and Jenny Slate will reprise their live-action roles.  Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked is scheduled for release on December 16th.

TIFF 2011: TEN YEAR Review

People tend to freak out a little when it comes to their ten year high school reunion.  They see it as a chance to make up for past regrets, prove how well they’re doing (even if they’re not), and regress a bit to the meaningless drama of our teenage years.  Jamie Linden’s Ten Year gets the meaningless drama part.  Following a group of male friends and their female appendages, Ten Year features redundant storylines, a dearth of humor, an almost total lack of creativity, and a waste of a perfectly good cast.

A few weeks ago we posted the first official image from director Jamie Linden ‘s Ten Year when the film got announced as part of this year’s Toronto Film Festival.  Now, thanks to Voltage Pictures website, we’ve got a number of new images and the first poster.  Starring Channing Tatum, Ron Livingston, Justin Long, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Chris Pratt, Kate Mara, Lynn Collins and Oscar Isaac, Ten Year is about a group of friends returning home for their ten year high school reunion.  Hit the jump for more. Continuing our assault of all the new movie images that hit the net this morning, we’ve got our first official looks at Steve McQueen’s Shame (starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale and Nicole Beharie), Fernando Meirelles 360 (starring Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz and Ben Foster), Jamie Linden’s Ten Year (starring Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Kate Mara, Anthony Mackie and Chris Pratt) and Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus (which stars Fiennes and Gerard Butler).

While many Film Festivals hope to land a few big movies, this year’s Toronto International Film Festival is an insane lineup that’s loaded with huge actors and high profile projects.  Like the past few years, I’ll be at TIFF, so you can expect plenty of reviews/interviews during the Festival which runs from September 8-18th.  Hit the jump to check out all the new images.

Relativity Media Sets Release Dates for Untitled Raven Project and Untitled Farrelly/Wessler Comedy

Two upcoming Relativity Media films may not have titles, but they now have release dates.  First up, James McTeigue’s Untitled Raven Project (previously titled The Raven) will open on March 9, 2012.  Per the press release, “The film is a gritty thriller in which Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.”  The untitled movie also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

Relativity has also set the date for the Untitled Farrelly/Wessler Comedy that has an absolutely ridiculous cast starring in a series of interconnected stories.  Just some of the names on board include Johnny Knoxville, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Seann Hugh Jackman, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Terrence Howard, Liev Schreiber, Elizabeth Banks, Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Stephen Merchant.  Hit the jump for the full press release.

Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Tyler Labine, and Addison Timlin to Star in LUMPY

Justin Long, Jess Weixler (Teeth), Tyler Labine (Reaper), and Addison Timlin (Californication) will star in the indie Lumpy.  Deadline reports that the story “begins with a wedding in Arizona, where the groom (Long) and bride (Weixler) find their nuptials heightened by their life of the party best man, Lumpy (Labine). That’s until he dies at the end of the evening.” Which I suppose would then make him the death of the party.  Either way, the newlyweds cancel their honeymoon and head to Minneapolis to arrange a funeral, but slowly they discover that perhaps they didn’t know Lumpy as well as they thought.

Michael Landes, Evan Jones, and Shelley Long will co-star in the film, which is the feature directing debut of Ted Koland who also wrote the script.  Filming is currently underway in Minnesota.

Charlie Day Exclusive Interview GOING THE DISTANCE; Plus Updates on IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY and HORRIBLE BOSSES

Charlie Day is an actor, writer and producer whose comedic talent has earned him legions of fans, as a result of his role on the TV series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The R-rated romantic comedy Going the Distance is his first major feature film role, in which he plays the sweet and earnest best friend and roommate of Justin Long’s character, Garrett. When Garrett enters into a long distance relationship with Erin (Drew Barrymore), Dan (Day) tries to help them along by taking advantage of the fact that the walls in their apartment are paper thin, and either comments through them or plays music that he feels suits the occasion.

During an exclusive interview with Collider at the film’s press day, Charlie Day talked about making the transition into feature film roles and the difference in being involved with something where the pressure is not on him. He also gave a preview of Season 6 of Sunny, talked about working with Jennifer Aniston on Horrible Bosses, finding a way to enjoy the mutual awkwardness of on screen nudity and said that the film will definitely have an R rating. Going the Distance is an R-rated romantic comedy that tells the story of what can happen when a one-night stand turns into something more. When Erin (Drew Barrymore) and Garrett (Justin Long) hook up, they never intend to end up in a long distance relationship that has her in San Francisco and him in New York City. But despite being on opposite coasts and having friends and family who are against them, the couple think they just might have found the real thing.

At a press conference for the film, co-stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, who have also shared their own real-life romance, talked about making the raunchy new comedy, filming the phone sex scene and getting that on screen first kiss just right. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

8 Movie Clips from GOING THE DISTANCE

Opening September 3rd is New Line Cinema’s Going the Distance.  The romantic comedy stars Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Ron Livingston, Jim Gaffigan, Kelli Garner, Rob Riggle, and Christina Applegate.  The premise is Drew Barrymore and Justin Long meet and spend a summer together, and while neither expects it to last when Barrymore has to move back to San Francisco, the new couple decides to try and make a long distance relationship work even though their family and friends are against it.

While I think almost every angle on the romantic comedy has been played out, with the R rating and Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis playing Justin Long’s friends, I’m hoping for some honest and raw dialogue that will make this rom-com worth watching. Also, never underestimate Drew Barrymore’s appeal, as women love her.  Anyway, we’ve been given eight clips from the movie and some images, so hit the jump to check them out – along with a more detailed synopsis:

Teen Choice Awards 2010 Celebrity Images

Favorite celebrities from film, television, music, sports and fashion were honored at Fox’s Teen Choice Awards 2010, held on August 8^th at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif.

Of course, with more than 85 million votes from teens all over the country, it’s no surprise that the cast of The Twilight Saga were among the big winners of the night, taking home Choice Fantasy Movie (New Moon) Choice Fantasy Movie Actor (Taylor Lautner) and Actress (Kristen Stewart), Choice Movie Scene Stealer Male (Kellan Lutz) and Female (Ashley Greene), Choice Movie Liplock (Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart), Choice Movie Chemistry (Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart), Choice Summer Movie Star Male (Robert Pattinson) and Female (Kristen Stewart), and Choice Male Hottie (Taylor Lautner). GOING THE DISTANCE Trailer Starring Drew Barrymore, Justin Long and Charlie Day

The first trailer for Going the Distance, starring real life on and off again-ers Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, is making its rounds online. The romantic comedy follows the story of a summer fling that extends into a full-on long distance relationship.

Not exactly your cup of tea? Give it a shot. I was about to turn off the trailer when Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) popped in and saved the day (pun intended. I apologize.).  The film will be the first fictional feature by Oscar-nominated, documentary director Nanette Burstein (American Teen, The Kid Stays in the Picture) and has an excellent supporting cast including Day, Christina Applegate, Ron Livingston, Jason Sudeikis, Jim Gaffigan, and Rob Riggle.

The film hits theaters on August 27^th, 2010. Just in time for you to end your summer fling. Hit the jump for the full synopsis and to check out the trailer:

New Images from Robert Redford’s THE CONSPIRATOR

New images from Robert Redford’s The Conspirator have hit the net thanks to USA Today. The film centers on a reluctant attorney (played by James McAvoy) forced to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright), an accomplice in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, as her son was the only conspirator to escape the manhunt.  It also “follows the race to hunt down the small band of Confederate sympathizers who helped plot the attack.”

While the film was independently financed and doesn’t yet have a distributor, with the great cast (Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Long, Toby Kebbell) and Redford’s name, I’m sure this will get released.  Hit the jump to check out the new images:

OLD DOGS Blu-ray Review

That Robin Williams and John Travolta made a terrible comedy together is no surprise, the only notable aspect is that it was made in 2009 and called Old Dogs. Neither is above doing shit, and shit is what they made. But it’s interesting to think of how many times the two could have been paired: It could have been done in the early 80′s as a miss-matched partners comedy. It could have been done any time in the 1990′s post-Pulp Fiction. And had this film come out in the mid-to-late 90′s, it would have been almost the same film too. The two star as ad execs with Williams finding out the woman (Kelly Preston) he married on a lark had twins and is about to go to jail. The kids need looking after and these long time bachelors have to find out if they can be parents. My review of Old Dogs after the jump.
