New Orleans is one of the major U.S. cities that offers enticing tax incentives to Hollywood productions.  Some of the biggest movies make their home, or at least part of their home, in the Louisiana city and 2011 is going to be no exception.  NOLA.com reports that production on Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is slated to begin on January 24th, although the length of the shoot and where exactly they’ll be filming is currently unknown.

Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate are having a rough time finding someone to direct their adaptation of the Eidos video game Kane & Lynch.  Stunt coordinator Simon Crane was set to make his directing debut on the flick, but dropped off in May.  He was replaced by Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum), but 24 Frames reports that he has also left the project.  This puts previous mentioned names Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) and F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) back into the mix along with Antonie Fuqua (Training Day).  Production was set to begin next month but has been pushed back indefinitely.

The film is set to star Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx as escaped convicts Adam “Kane” Marcus and James Seth Lynch.  Kane is forced to team-up with the schizophrenic killer Lynch in order to break out of prison and find a stolen microchip.

F. Gary Gray Is the Top Choice to Direct KANE & LYNCH Starring Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: June 10th, 2010 at 12:23 am

Director F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) is reportedly at the top of the short list to helm the adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx attached to star.  We reported a couple weeks ago that Wayne Kramer (The Cooler) was in talks to direct after stunt effects coordinator Simon Crane dropped off the project.  In that same article, we noted that Gray had been offered the project, but turned it down.  It looks like the studio, Millennium Films, has been able to bring Gray back to the table.  According to Heat Vision, director Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job) is also on the short list.

The video game follows death-row inmate Kane (Willis) who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch (Foxx), is sprung by Kane’s former team so that they can retrieve a stolen microchip that’s worth a fortune.  Lynch acts as the team’s watchdog in order to save his wife and daughter.  I’m sure the mother and daughter will be overjoyed to see their schizophrenic killer husband and father again.  Production is set to begin this August.

Wayne Kramer to Direct KANE & LYNCH?

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 27th, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Director Wayne Kramer (Running Scared) is reportedly in talks to helm the upcoming adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch.  Stunt Coordinator Simon Crane was set to make his directing debut on the film, but according to Latino Review, “it wasn’t working out” with the studio.  An offer then went out to F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen) but he turned down the project.  Now they’re talking to Kramer and production is scheduled to begin in August.

Based off the Eidos game and written by Kyle Ward, the film stars Bruce Willis as Kane, a mercenary who’s forced to team up with Lynch, a schizophrenic killer played by Jamie Foxx, in order to escape prison and find a stolen microchip.  Anyone who has seen Running Scared knows that Kramer would be a fantastic choice for this project.

Bruce Willis is in talks to star in Summit Entertainment’s prison escape drama The Tomb, with Antoine Fuqua (Shooter, Training Day) in talks to direct.  According to Deadline:

Willis would play Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security.  After analyzing every high security prison and learning a vast array of survival skills so he can design escape-proof prisons, his skills are put to the test. He’s framed and incarcerated in a master prison he designed himself. He needs to escape and find the person who put him behind bars.

The script was written by Miles Chapman and rewritten by Jason Keller. Robbie Brenner and Mark Canton are producing.  More after the jump:

Jamie Foxx is in talks to co-star with Bruce Willis in the upcoming adaptation of the videogame Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.  Developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, the story “follows two Kane (Willis), a death row inmate who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch (Foxx), is sprung by Kane’s former team so that he can retrieve a stolen fortune. Kane travels to Los Angeles, Japan and Cuba, with Lynch acting as the team’s watchdog in order to save his wife and daughter.”

The game was mediocre but always felt like it was geared more towards becoming a movie than actually being a worthwhile videogame.  At least Willis and Foxx should be a good pair, and I especially like the casting of Foxx not only because of his acting talent, but because Lynch is a white guy in the game.  This means my campaign for Tracy Morgan to play Mario may have a chance after all. Foxx will next appear alongside Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. in Todd Phillips’ road trip comedy Due DateWillis is leading a cast of everyone in Hollywood in the action flick Red, which is due out in November.

HITMAN 2, KANE & LYNCH, HACK/SLASH Update from Producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter

Daniel_Alter_and_Adrian_Askarieh_Scream_Awards_2009.jpg

On tonight’s red carpet for the 2009 Scream Awards, I was able to speak with producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter about three of their upcoming projects: “Hitman 2″, “Kane & Lynch” and “Hack/Slash”. According to Askarieh and Alter, they just got the script for “Hitman 2″ and they’re turning it into the studio next week. When I asked them how it differed from the first film, Askarieh says it’s “far more action packed and it takes place in America.” Alter said, “it’s more of a genre film.” They hope to be in front of the camera in early spring or summer of next year.

Regarding “Kane & Lynch”, they said they’re filming in Louisiana in the spring and Bruce Willis is playing Kane. When I asked who would be playing Lynch, they said we’d find out soon, but then Askarieh told me he’s a British actor. I would assume we’re going to hear who he is any day. Finally, when we talked about “Hack/Slash”, Alter confirmed Fredrick Bond is the director and said it’s going to start early next year. No casting yet but Alter says we’re going to hear something pretty soon. Watch the full interview after the jump:
