Vin Diesel Provides Updates on RIDDICK Release Date and Sequels

Vin Diesel recently posted some updates on his Facebook page that suggest we might be seeing Riddick as early as January of next year.  Principal photography wrapped recently on Riddick, the third film in a franchise that started with Pitch Black. While Diesel was hoping to see a release in 2012, this comes as a good sign that the studio is happy with what they’re seeing.  That bodes well, not only for Riddick, but for the potential sequels if Riddick proves commercially successful.  Be sure to check out some images from set here. First Look at Katee Sackhoff in New Images from RIDDICK

Vin Diesel has unveiled a few more images from the currently-in-production Riddick, giving us our first look at Katee Sackhoff and a gnarly looking creature. Diesel mentioned in the posting of the image that Sackoff wrapped shooting on the film early this morning. She plays a mercenary named Dahl, but she’s doing her best Starbuck impression from Battlestar Galactica in this new image. Granted, both projects are in the sci-fi realm so we were probably already thinking about her Battlestar Galactica character anyway, but the wardrobe here is very similar. The third installment of the series that began with Pitch Black was followed by 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick finds our antihero left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that’s infested with alien predators. Riddick activates an emergency beacon that alerts mercenaries to come collect their bounty

Principal Photography Has Begun on RIDDICK; Updated Synopsis and Full Cast Revealed

In case you were somehow confused by the recent set photos Vin Diesel has been sending out, Universal Pictures has announced that principal photography has officially begun on Riddick.  The press release provides an updated synopsis and casting info.  We knew that Diesel would be joined by Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, and Jordi Molla, but now Bokeem Woodbine and David Bautista have been confirmed as cast members.  The film also stars Matt Nable, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk, and Keri Hilson.

Katee Sackhoff Talks RIDDICK; Reveals the Wild Story on How She Got Cast

Earlier today, at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Collider got the opportunity to sit down with actress Katee Sackhoff for an exclusive interview. While she was there to promote her new A&E western crime drama Longmire, which debuts this summer, we did also get the chance to ask her about the role she recently signed on to play in the upcoming Riddick sequel with Vin Diesel, that is being directed by David Twohy.

Sackhoff talked about having grown up watching science fiction and action, what a huge fan she is of the first two movies, how excited she is “to go blow some shit up,” her crazy (and I mean crazy!) audition story, and how she’s already packed on nine pounds of muscle in training, in an attempt to compete with her co-star. Katee Sackhoff and Jordi Molla Hunt Down Vin Diesel in RIDDICK

While you probably know her as Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, Katee Sackhoff will soon have a new sci-fi franchise to add to her repertoire. We previously reported that Sackhoff was being considered for a role opposite Vin Diesel in the upcoming sci-fi flick, Riddick. It now looks as if she’s a lock as Sackhoff is reported to be in final negotiations for the role. She’ll be playing Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tasked with tracking down the titular anti-hero. Also playing the mercenary game is Jordi Molla (Blow) who will play Santana,  a leader of an eight-man crew bent on killing Riddick. Things are not looking up for our favorite Furyan.

The third installment of the franchise that started with Pitch Black and staggered with The Chronicles of Riddick was once again written and directed by David Twohy; it also stars Karl Urban reprising his role as Lord Vaako. Hit the jump for more on Riddick.

Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, and More Offered Roles in RIDDICK

With pre-production well underway, David Twohy’s Riddick is now starting to put together its supporting cast.  We previously reported that Karl Urban would be returning to the franchise to star alongside Vin Diesel, and now Bloody-Disgusting has some new casting details to report.  According to BD, offers are out to voice Andreas Apergis (Durham County) Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) Bokeem Woodbine (The Rock) and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption).  If Apergis signs on, he’ll play play “Krone”, commander of the dark theocracy, while Sackhoff would pay “Dahl”, a Nordic merc tracking Riddick.  I’m definitely up on the idea of Sackhoff playing a merc, and hopefully Woodbine will top his shocked-death face from The Rock.

Trailer for Warner Premiere’s Animated Film BATMAN: YEAR ONE

Warner Premiere, the Warner Bros. division that handles the direct-to-DVD animated superhero films, has released a trailer for Batman: Year One.  The film is based on Frank Miller’s acclaimed 1987 comic miniseries of the same name.  As if the title didn’t give it away, the film focuses on the Caped Crusader’s first year as a costumed vigilante.  The trailer looks interesting and Warner Premiere did an alright job with last year’s Batman: Under the Red Hood.  This time around, Batman will be voiced Ben McKenzie (Southland) with Bryan Cranston as Detective Gordon, Eliza Dushku as Catwoman, and Katee Sackhoff as Gordon’s love interest, Detective Sarah Essen.  While McKenzie sounds fine, I always hear Kevin Conroy (from Batman: The Animated Series) as the proper voice of the Dark Knight.  Thankfully, he’s reprising the role for Batman: Arkham City.

Casting Call: Susan Sarandon in I HATE YOU DAD, Jennifer Hudson Joins THE THREE STOOGES, Johnny Knoxville in FUN SIZE, and Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg and More in SEXY EVIL GENIUS

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you today. First up, Susan Sarandon has joined the cast of the Adam Sandler/Andy Samberg comedy I Hate You Dad. The comedy revolves around a father who moves in with his son and his son’s fiancé just before they’re about to get married, with Leighton Meester set to play Samberg’s fiancée. THR reports that in addition to Sarandon, Will Forte, Milo Ventimiglia, Eva Amurri (Californication), Blake Clark, Meagan Fay (Party Down), Tony Orlando, Dan Patrick and previously announced James Caan are all in negotiations to join the Sean Anders-directed comedy. Sarandon will play a sexy teacher who is the mother of Samberg’s character.

Additionally, Jennifer Hudson is the latest actor to join the cast of the Farrelly brothers’ The Three Stooges. The film stars Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Stephen Collins and Craig Bierko. Deadline reports that Hudson will play Sister Rosmary at the orphanage that the Stooges are raised. Lynch and David play two other (presumably evil) nuns at the orphanage. The Three Stooges is currently filming. First Images from BATMAN: YEAR ONE; Voice Cast Announced; Film Will Premiere at Comic-Con

Bryan Cranston, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku, and Katee Sackhoff will provide voice work to Warner Premiere’s upcoming animated adaptation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s acclaimed graphic novel Batman: Year One.  Heat Vision reports that Cranston will voice a young liutenant James Gordon, while McKenzie is Wayne/Batman. Dushku will provide the voice for Catwoman, and Sackhoff is Gordon’s love interest, Detective Sarah Essen.  The PG-13 feature is set to stick fairly close to the comic with executive producer Bruce Timm revealing, “It a pretty straight forward literal retelling.  Mazzucchelli’s artwork is beautifully composed and we were able to refer to the comic for about 80 percent of the camera setups.”

TV Call Casting: Robert Englund Scares CHUCK, Ashmore Brothers Join FRINGE, Aquaman Returns to SMALLVILLE, and Katee Sackhoff Guests on CSI

Here’s a quartet of TV casting updates coming right at ya. First up, EW has word that Robert Englund, the man behind the original Freddy Krueger, has signed on as a guest star on the forthcoming season of Chuck. The episode titled Chuck vs the Aisle of Terror is set to appropriately air around Halloween with Englund playing Dr Stanley Wheelwright, an evil scientist who can make your waking life a nightmare. Shouldn’t too difficult of a role for Englund to step into, and the content certainly allows plenty of opportunities for homage and jokes. Englund joins a whole slew of guest stars in Chuck’s fourth season including Linda Hamilton, Timothy Dalton, Eric Roberts, Lou Ferrigno, Dolph Lundgren and more.

Collider Has Seen the 24 Season 8 4-hour Premiere Event

I am a huge 24 fan and have been since the very beginning of the series.  We’ve gone through some good times and some bad times together, as well as some embarrassing times.  From presidential assassinations, bio-threats, and nuclear bombs blowing up in Valencia; to the infamous cougar lurking in the woods, Teri Bauer’s amnesia, and basically anything involving Kim Bauer.  24 is by no means a perfect show, but what it usually delivers on is action packed seasons and cliffhangers at the end of each episode.  Season 8, which starts with a 4-hour premiere tomorrow night, has a lot to live up to after last year’s non-stop insanely good season.  Some critics would disagree, but I thought season 7 was pure 24 gold.  Although the premiere isn’t as intense as I had hoped, some great new elements have been introduced.  And let’s just say Renee Walker returns with a vengeance!  More after the jump.

Marvel Must Be Rebooting Daredevil Because Katee Sackhoff Bought Some Comics

It’s Memorial Day weekend.  News is unbelievably slow.  Yesterday, one of the top stories was how an extra in “Spider-Man 3″ killed herself.  That’s how slow it is.  And when news is slow, you gotta get creative.  And by “creative”, I mean “Take minor incidents and speculate like you’re on cable news.”

Today’s speculation comes courtesy of Golden Apple Comics who witnessed actress Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from “Battlestar Galactica”) buying all of their Typhoid Mary comics and then saying she wanted to get a part in a Marvel movie.  Then, ComingSoon proceeds to speculate that since Typhoid is a foe of both Daredevil and Deadpool, this could be a part in either a new Daredevil movie or the upcoming Deadpool spin-off.

Because an actress bought some comic books.

All actors and actresses who read Collider: you have a grand opportunity.  Go to your local comic store and just buy a bunch of comics.  Even better, pick up the most obscure, confounding characters you can.  Buy Namor or Dazzler or Rawhide Kid.  You have the power to send the geek world into a frenzy for less than $50.
