I haven’t gotten around to seeing Alexandre Aja’s remake of Piranha 3D, but I heard good things all around regarding its creative kills, delightful stupidity, and all-around exploitative nature. It’s a movie that knows what it wants to be an pulls it off. That general consensus combined with a solid box office performance has led to the sequel Piranha 3DD. The new film has the carnivorous fishies headed to a water park, which aren’t really sanitary places to begin with. Dimension Films premiered the first trailer last night at the SpikeTV Scream Awards and it looks like they’ve definitely got the “DD” part down. Also, Ving Rhames’s character apparently shops at the same prosthetics store as Cherry Darling. I have no complaints about gun-legs.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer. The fish food cast also includes Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey. Piranha 3DD opens next year.

Magnet Releasing announced today via press release that it has acquired domestic distribution rights to the horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Starring Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, and Katrina Bowden, the film features a continuously rising body count that derives from the misconception that Tucker and Dale (Tudyk and Labine) are backwoods murderous creeps ala Deliverance. The film debuted at Sundance all the way back in 2010 at which point Steve conducted video interviews with both Tudyk and Labine. You can click here and here to check out each of those sit-downs and click here to take in three clips from the film. Per the announcement, Magnet plans to release the pic on VOD platforms on August 26th and theatrically on September 30th.

We’ve got a few casting stories for you tonight. First up, Jamie Chung has joined Rob Lowe in the dark political flick Knife Fight, with Julie Bowen, Connie Britton, Jennifer Morrison, Rebecca Mader and Titus Welliver all in talks to join the cast. And yes, that’s three actors from Lost in one movie (Bowen, Mader and Welliver). Lowe plays a political crisis specialist who plays hard and tough in dealing with various October campaign surprises.
Variety reports that Chung will play his assistant, Bowen plays an ambitious TV reporter sleeping with Lowe’s character for scoops, Britton plays an earthy liberal eyeing a run for public office, Welliver plays a private investigator working for Lowe, Mader plays a masseuse/prostitute with a penchant for blackmail and Morrison plays one of her classmates. Bill Guttentag is directing, with production set to start next month with an eye towards an October 2012 release date, just in time for election season. Hit the jump for news on the casting of Joey King as China Girl in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful and Katrina Bowden in American Reunion.

Piranha 3DD clearly has no desire to be considered a real movie and if attempting to top their previously-announced stunt casting of Gary Busey by hiring David Hasselhoff. Unfortunately, nothing beats Busey. The new film takes place at a water park so perhaps Hasselhoff will be playing a lifeguard. You know, because he was a lifeguard on Baywatch. So clever, Piranha 3DD.
The film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Katrina Bowden, Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, and David Koechner. Piranha 3DD opens in 3D on November 23rd.

With production on the film just one week in, director John Gulager’s (Feast) Piranha 3DD has added 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden to its cast. The press release doesn’t elaborate on Bowden’s character much past citing her as “being on the menu” alongside fellow castmates Gary Busey, Danielle Panabaker, David Koechner, Matt Bush, and Chris Zylka. With that description in mind, I think it might be safe to assume that Bowden’s chances of making it to the film’s final credits are pretty low. Piranha 3DD is scheduled to hit theaters later this year on November 23rd.

With Sundance getting ready to start next week, we’ve been given some clips from director Eli Craig’s Tucker & Dale vs. Evil – which stars Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine Labine and Katrina Bowden.
The film is part of the “Park City at Midnight” category. Here’s the short synopsis:
Two West Virginian hillbillies go on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin, but their peaceful trip goes horribly awry.
I’ve heard good things about the film, but we’ll all know if the positive buzz is true next week. Until then, check out the clips after the jump…along with a better synopsis:

After having finished watching the entirety of season 3of 30 Rock, two things came to me. One is that 30 Rock – especially among its niche following – is the most quotable show around these days. From Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) doing her Muppet walk or saying “what the what?”to “I want to go there” to Baldwin paying homage to Malice, without having seen this season of 30 Rock at all, much of it was familiar by remembering tweets and things people said. My Review after the jump.
