In order to build a film like The Avengers, Marvel had to look far in advance and make sure that their major superhero films contributed to the upcoming blockbuster crossover. Even if The Avengers is a massive flop (and that’s highly unlikely), Marvel is already making its plans for The Avengers 2. Speaking at New York Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel Studios’ President of Production Kevin Feige talked about the company’s future films. Unsurprisingly, Iron Man 3 will be part of what Feige calls “Phase Two of this Avengers Assemble talk.”
So what else will be part of “Phase Two”? Hit the jump for more. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012. Feige says they’ll be continuing their tradition of including a brief scene post-credits [via Cinemablend].

Are you attending this year’s New York Comic-Con? Were you planning on going to the presentation for The Avengers? If so, then everything’s gonna be fine. Marvel has announced they’ll be showing never-before-seen footage from the movie at NYCC’s IGN Theater on October 15th from 6:30 – 7:30pm. The panel for the event will feature producer Kevin Feige, and stars Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, and Cobie Smulders. I expect everyone who is attending the presentation to studiously take notes and tweet your every thought. I also expect we’re going to get a teaser trailer for the film within a month, but that’s brazen speculation on my part. Brazen, I tell you.
Hit the jump for the press release. The film also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

While Marvel has been pretty upfront about their slate of films in the past, giving audiences a long lead-in to the far off films like Thor and Captain America, their next slate of movies after The Avengers has been much more quiet. Now it looks like the cat’s been let out of the bag, as Marvel’s next five movies after their all-star superhero flick includes: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Inhumans. We knew about Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, as they both had release dates, and Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man had been up in the air for a while, but the other two are relatively new additions. Hit the jump for the details.

It’s easy for us to get caught up in the endless photos/videos from the set of The Avengers, but Marvel has a broad slate of standalone superhero movies to worry about. The first two post-Avengers are Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in the summer 2013. Robert Downey Jr. shared his intentions for Iron Man last month, and today Marvel president Kevin Feige revealed their plans for the Thor sequel to EW:
“[Thor 2 will] primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”
On that last point, Feige promises the script by Don Payne “take Thor literally to other worlds.” Hit the jump for more on The Nine Worlds.

This past weekend we got our first look [albeit through concept art] at the redesigned Hulk (played this time around by Mark Ruffalo) for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. There haven’t been any major overhauls to the character. He’s still big, still green, still a messy mop of black hair, and still ripped. Well, not quite as ripped as before, explains producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Feige says, “[Hulk will] be about the same size he was in The Incredible Hulk [which was about 9 feet tall] or maybe a little bit smaller. His muscles won’t be quite as cut. We figure he’s been the Hulk now for a few years and [his physique is changing]. He’s not as cut or as ripped as he was in The Incredible Hulk.” Feige gave no reason to why Hulk hasn’t been hitting the gym or why age would affect his physique, but maybe that will be explained in the movie.
Far more interesting is what Feige had to say about the redesign of Hulk’s facial features. Hit the jump for more details. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

Disney will forego panels and presentations at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con now that the company has established its own convention with the D23 Expo. This year’s D23 runs from August 19 – 21st and will include presentations, screenings, celebrity panels, autograph signings, and other fan-friendly activities. The major ramification for Comic-Con isn’t the loss of films from Walt Disney Studios and Pixar (although that certainly stings), but from the loss of Marvel Studios. While Marvel will certainly have a presence at Comic-Con, its panels will be reserved for D23.
The schedule for D23 has been released and on Saturday, August 20th from 11am to 12:30 pm, the presentation for Walt Disney Studios will be hosted by Disney chairman Rich Ross, President of Production Sean Bailey, Chief Creative Officer of Disney and Pixar John Lasseter, and Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige. We’ve got some Captain America news for you today. As with most Marvel movies, Captain America: The First Avenger will be getting a sequel. We learned back in February that The First Avenger scribes Stephen McFeeley and Christopher Markus had been tapped to start work on the screenplay for a sequel. Well now, even though the first film hasn’t even hit theaters yet, McFeeley recently spoke a bit about the follow-up, saying that they’re working on how to incorporate more period material into the sequel.
Hit the jump to see what he said, and to check out a new featurette from the film. Starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters July 22nd in 3D.

I have to admit, up until I went to the screening of Thor, all I knew about the Marvel character was what I learned from watching Adventures in Babysitting as a kid. So, I went into the film hoping to be as intrigued and compelled by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor as I was in watching Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, who I also knew nothing about prior to seeing that first film. I quickly found myself sold on the Aussie actor’s performance and was along for the ride while Thor went on a mythic journey from being the arrogant prince of Asgard to a humble superhero who deserves the power that he was born to inherit. And, although Thor is more of a coming-to-power story than an origin story, I find myself actually excited about seeing the Marvel characters team up for The Avengers, slated for release in 2012.
At the film’s press day, director Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked about how finding the right Thor was the most important aspect of the film, the challenge in making a film as big in scale as Thor, how passionate and intense this family story is, what makes Thor a cool character, and the possibility of a sequel. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

With Marvel’s Thor getting released in America next weekend, earlier today I got to sit down with Kevin Feige (the President of Production at Marvel Studios) at the Los Angeles press junket for Thor. While I could have asked about how Thor came together and what it was like to make the movie, I previously posted a huge on set interview where he discussed all of those subjects. So I decided to use my time to talk about the future of Marvel and what are some of the cool Easter Eggs in Thor.
Of course that’s not all that we talked about, as we also discussed Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, why did they cut out a mention of Hank Pym in Thor, what exactly is in Odin’s Vault (and what’s missing), what is Marvel doing at Comic-Con, was the filming last week in Times Square for Captain America or The Avengers, why did Thor get released internationally a few weeks early, and he reveals “there will be a Marvel animated movie at some point.”
Trust me, if you’re a fan of Marvel movies, you really want to hit the jump.

Not long ago, once Marvel Studios had proved itself as a major player in the summer tentpole game, a slate was released for all of the upcoming films from the new studio. Fans relished the thought of seeing Thor, Captain America and The Avengers on the big screen. Well, after this summer only one new film on that slate will be left (The Avengers) and audiences are left wondering: what will Marvel do next? Thankfully, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently talked about the future of the studio and what flicks are on the horizon.
In addition to confirming sequels for Thor and Captain America (set in modern-day, no less) he discussed possible spinoffs for Black Widow, Hawkeye and S.H.I.E.L.D as well as the long-talked-about Dr. Strange movie. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

The first image of the Cosmic Cube in Captain America: The First Avenger has gone online. The Cube is an item of major importance in the Marvel Universe. When footage from Captain America was shown at last year’s Comic-Con, we saw [minor spoiler alert] Red Skull (played by Hugo Weaving) discovering the Cube. It’s also possible we’ll be capturing a glimpse of the Cube in Thor. When Steve visited the set of Thor, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said:
“Odin’s vault which is where a number of the most dangerous relics of the nine realms are kept. There are a couple of key McGuffins kept in here which lead to the story of the movie and even the story of other movies.”
Hit the jump to check out the image and to learn more about the Cosmic Cube. Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger is due out in 3D on July 22nd.

In an online chat on the L.A. Times website HeroComplex, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, answered a ton of fan submitted questions. While he didn’t reveal any major Marvel secrets, he did give updates on numerous Marvel projects that are in development. Some of the projects he talked about were Ant-Man, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Luke Cage, The Runaways, The Punisher, Deadpool, Thor, Captain America, Power Pack, and a few others. Here’s some of the bullet point highlights:
Hit the jump for everything he said:

If you’re looking forward to Marvel’s Thor movie, I’m about to make your day. That’s because earlier this year I got to visit the set and the embargo has finally been lifted! And even though Marvel is usually very guarded when you visit their sets, the visit for Thor was not only very revealing, but extremely illuminating. That’s because Kevin Feige, the President of Production at Marvel Studios, told us a tremendous amount about Thor and how this film will help propel many other Marvel movies.
Unfortunately, when you visit a set you’re never allowed to take any pictures, or use any sort of video device. But you are allowed to use audio recorders. So after the jump you can either read a transcript or listen to all the audio files of everything that was talked about. What’s great about the audio is you can listen to the incredible tour that Feige took us on and hear all the questions and answers for yourself. You can also listen as the visiting journalists tried to find out every secret about Thor and Marvel’s future movies! Hit the jump for more:

Back in March, when Marvel’s Thor was still being filmed, before we knew what the costumes looked like and what the story would be about, Paramount invited me to visit the set with a few other online journalists. Needless to say, I said yes.
While I’ve visited the set of a few other Marvel movies (Iron Man and Iron Man 2), this experience was quite different. That’s because on the set of both Iron Man movies, the filmmakers were very guarded about revealing too much of the story and they played everything very close to the vest. But on the set of Thor, Kevin Feige (The President of Marvel) was willing to talk about everything and he even took us on a tour of the art department which showcased the costumes and sets of director Kenneth Branagh’s movie. While I walked in wondering how Thor could exist in the same universe as Iron Man and Captain America, I left convinced they had figured out how to make everything work. Much more after the jump:
