I’m a huge fan of the Broken Lizard bunch and while I’m still upset that I still haven’t seen their latest film, The Slammin’ Salmon, I’m happy to hear that Universal Pictures and Motion Picture Corporation of America have picked up two projects from the group. The first project is called Rogue Scholars, which THR says is a “college comedy revolving around five unruly professors played by the members of Broken Lizard — Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske.” Details of the second project are being kept under wraps and both are still in the script stage.
The Broken Lizard films (Super Troopers, Club Dread, Beerfest) don’t tear up the box office, but they do well on DVD and build up a cult following. I put Super Troopers on my Top 20 of the 2000s list because it’s so quotable and never gets old. Hopefully, this is where the group turns a corner and finally gets their work out there in a big way.

Anchor Bay Films is going to get a pass from me for a while because they picked up Broken Lizard’s newest film, “The Slammin’ Salmon” and will distribute it to theaters this December. Every time I saw an update from BL on Facebook, I would wonder when I would finally get to see the movie which premiered at Slamdance this past January. Now I get to see it before the end of the year and I’m beyond excited. Hit the jump for details.
