Jeremy Irons (Appaloosa) and Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and Tom Sturridge (Pirate Radio) have signed on to star in The Treehouse.  Originally titled The Master of Farnow, the film is set in “in pre-World War I Germany detailing the story of a failed student, his glamorous cousin, her mother and the student’s father.”  According to THR, Lajos Koltai (Evening) will direct the $10 million production from a script by Paul Mayersberg (Croupier), based on a novel by Eduard von Keyserling.

Irons will next be seen in Margin Call, which was recently picked up from Sundance for an October 2011 release.  Sturridge’s next big project positions the actor opposite Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund, and Kristen Stewart in Walter Salles’ highly anticipated adaptation of On the Road.

Adrien Brody and Sharon Stone to Replace Sam Rockwell and Kim Cattrall in SWEET BABY JESUS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 21st, 2010 at 1:44 pm

We have a bit of casting change-up for you this afternoon.  Deadline reports that Adrien Brody and Sharon Stone are replacing Sam Rockwell and Kim Cattrall in the religious comedy Sweet Baby Jesus.  While I’m always bummed when Rockwell leaves a project, Adrien Brody is no slouch and Sweet Baby Jesus has a solid premise: “Joe (Brody), a guy who finds himself accompanying his pregnant teenage girlfriend to Bethlehem, Maryland during the 1970s. His girlfriend’s name is Mary (Pixie Lott) and soon the town is agog that it’s about to witness the Second Coming.”  Stone will play Mary’s mother.  Sean Brosnan (son of Pierce Brosnan) has also joined the cast, and Bette Midler is still on board to play the innkeeper.

Expectations were high for the Sex and the City sequel we all knew was inevitable after the first movie’s opening weekend. With hundreds of women lined up hours in advance, decked out in heels and sipping Cosmos, how could Warner Brothers not cash in on the sequel?

And cash in they did producing a full-length feature film, complete with glittery gowns, muscular men and the quartet of friends taking a decadent vacation overseas. Collider caught up with the cast, appropriately enough, in the shoe department of Bergdorf-Goodman to dish on the details of the fun, the friends, and, of course, the fashion.  To hear what Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Chris Noth and writer-director Michael Patrick King had to say, continue reading after the jump:

Sam Rockwell May Star in SWEET BABY JESUS

Sam Rockwell is considering a starring role in the comedy Sweet Baby Jesus.  According to Deadline, Rockwell would play “Joe, a guy who finds himself accompanying his pregnant teenage girlfriend to Bethlehem, Maryland. His girlfriend’s name is Mary and soon the town is agog that it’s about to witness the Second Coming.”  Filming is set to begin in August.  If Rockwell signs on, he’ll be starring opposite British pop star Pixie Lott along with Bette Midler and Kim Cattrall, who will play the “innkeeper” Eleanor Mary’s mother Darlene, respectively.  Peter Hewitt (Garfield) will direct from a script by Steve Blair.

Roman Polanski’s THE GHOST WRITER Trailer

by Matt Currie    Posted: January 13th, 2010 at 7:25 pm

Ghost Writer movie image Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan slice.jpg

The trailer for Roman Polanski’s upcoming political thriller The Ghost Writer has hit the Net and it’s…well, on a scale of 1 to Hit-Girl, I’d put it closer to 1. The film stars Ewan McGregor as a man enlisted to ghost-write the memoirs of a former British prime minister, played by Pierce Brosnan. As McGregor’s character, know only as The Ghost, delves into his subject’s past, he begins to uncover potentially damaging information about the former world leader, information that could shock a nation as well as cost him his life. Kim Cattrall, Olivia Williams, and Tom Wilkinson co-star.

The cast is certainly impressive and the director proven, but I found this trailer pretty bland. That’s not to say that the movie itself won’t be worth a look; on the contrary, it seems like whoever put this thing together took what was more of a slow-building mystery and ill-advisedly cut it into the standard thriller preview chock-full of quick cuts and high-tempo orchestral music. Anyway, you can judge for yourself. Hit the jump for the trailer and the official synopsis. The Ghost Writer will be released by Summit Entertainment in a limited theatrical run starting February 19, 2010.

First Trailer for SEX AND THE CITY 2

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 22nd, 2009 at 8:27 pm

slice_sex_city_2_teaser_poster_01.jpg

Of all the women in my life who watched the Sex and the City TV show, only one enjoyed the 2008 movie while everyone else had mixed to negative reactions to the film.  I watched the film and while I know it wasn’t for me, I couldn’t help but feel like the film was overly long and felt suited towards a made-for-HBO movie than a big screen theatrical event.  But my opinion and the opinions of my mom and female friends don’t seem to matter much because Sex and the City 2 is hurdling towards us and the first trailer for the film has come online.

I don’t have much to say about it other than there’s two lame puns on the name “Carrie” and Kim Cattrall is almost unrecognizable and I don’t mean that in a good way.  Also, a female friend who liked the show but hated the first movie made an interesting point about the sequel: now that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is married, what’s the point?  How would her character even have a job since her column was about single life in Manhattan?  I don’t know the answer to that question nor do I particularly care.  Sex and the City 2 isn’t for me.

But if you think it may be for you, check out the trailer after the jump.  Sex and the City 2 hits theaters on May 28, 2010.

Summit Picks Up Roman Polanski’s Latest Film THE GHOST WRITER; TRON LEGACY to Reveal a New Image to 10 Facebook Fans

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 11th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

slice_roman_polanski_tron_legacy_01.jpg

Despite his ongoing legal drama, Roman Polanski will get his new movie The Ghost Writer out to audiences as Summit Entertainment has picked up the film for distribution.  While the film sadly does not chart Johnny Blaze’s attempts at being an author, it has a strong synopsis:

The movie thriller tells the story of a former British Prime Minister, Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan), who is holed up on an island off the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. in midwinter, writing his memoirs.  When his long-standing aide drowns, a professional ghostwriter (Ewan McGregor) is sent out to help him finish the book.  The anonymous ghost writer is quickly drawn into a political and sexual intrigue involving Lang’s wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams) and his aide (Kim Cattrall).  Hanging over Lang is the threat of a war crimes trial and a mysterious secret from his past that threatens to jeopardize international relations.  The cast also includes Jim Belushi, Robert Pugh and Tom Wilkinson.

Summit plans to release the film in the first half of 2010.  However, I still can’t get over Jim Belushi in a Roman Polanski movie.  It just doesn’t compute.

I can, however, make some more sense out of Tron Legacy attempting to draw in more Facebook fans by offering ten lucky folks a look at a new image from the film.  While we got a sweet new image last week along with a nice teaser poster, I’m hoping that one of the ten folks who gets the new image is a fan of Collider and wouldn’t mind sharing.  Click over to the film’s official Facebook page to become a fan.  Tron Legacy hits theaters on December 17, 2010.

Roman Polanski’s GHOST Now in Limbo

by David Corbin    Posted: September 29th, 2009 at 8:59 am

slice_roman_polanski_wanted_desired_01.jpg

As we reported earlier, Roman Polanski was arrested this past weekend in Switzerland, 31 years after pleading guilty to having sexual relations with an underage girl and subsequently leaving the United States. His arrest means that his latest film, “The Ghost” has been left unfinished. Starring Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor, the movie centers on the fictional former British politician Adam Lang (Brosnan) as he writes his memoirs with the help of McGregor’s character. Based on the Robert Harris novel, “The Ghost” also stars Kim Cattrall, Tom Wilkinson, Olivia Williams and James Belushi. Hit the jump to find out more about the film and whether or not it can make it into theaters.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA Blu-ray Review

by Andre Dellamorte    Posted: August 16th, 2009 at 7:20 pm

slice_big_trouble_little_china_blu-ray.jpg

Roger Ebert once said that Bugs Bunny was the person we all wanted to be, and Daffy Duck was the person we really were. What makes Jack Burton such a great character is that thinks he’s Bugs Bunny, but is actually Daffy. And that’s one of the great jokes of Big Trouble in Little China, John Carpenter’s Kung-fu opus, and one of the most purely entertaining goofs ever made. My review after the jump.
