HBO’s epic masterpiece Game of Thrones is back for Season 3, with bigger battles, devastating betrayals and more deaths, as everyone fights for control of the Iron Throne.  Now that magic is growing stronger and the dragons have been let loose, there’s no telling who might be in jeopardy or in power next.

At the show’s press day, co-stars Kit Harington (“Jon Snow”), John Bradley (“Samwell Tarly”) and Rose Leslie (“Ygritte”) talked about what’s it like to film with the conditions in Iceland, how isolating the location can feel from the rest of the cast, how Jon Snow will face his biggest struggle yet this season, what Samwell’s place in the Night’s Watch is, how Jon Snow’s relationship with Mance Rayder will develop and what it’s like to have Ciarán Hinds join the cast, how complicated things will become between Jon and Ygritte, whether Jon still wants to know who his mother is, how much deeper the fantasy aspect will get this season, how much of the books they’ve read, and their hopes for their characters, beyond this season.  Check out what they had to say, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

On the heels of several new promotions for its upcoming Game of Thrones season, HBO has now released a few new photos that, while they don’t reveal too much, give us a little taste of what is to come this season.  The cable network also recently posted blue-hued character profile pictures as well as an extended trailer that features even more characters and teasers (Lord’s Kiss, anyone?) than the original promo spot (oh what an additional twenty seconds can do).

The collection includes new photos of Lena Heady as Cersei (one in a dress that somewhat resembles one of Margeary Tyrell’s outfits last year — looking to please House Tyrell, are we?) as well as a “because I’m worth it” Jon Snow (Kit Harington) hair shot, plus reaction shots from Natalie Tena as Osha and a shockingly cherubic Jack Gleeson as (that little shit) Joffery.  Hit the jump for the pics and more.  Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Sunday, March 31st at 9 p.m. It is known.

SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D Blu-ray Review

Sometimes buying a Blu-ray is worth the price simply to have a favorite movie on hand for repeat viewings.  Occasionally, if the film wasn’t quite as strong as you would have hoped during its theatrical release, the extras on the Blu-ray make a purchase worthwhile because they elucidate the film’s production through additional features such as a director’s cut or commentary and behind-the-scenes featurettes.  Unfortunately, the Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Blu-ray boasts neither an enjoyable feature nor worthwhile bonus material.  Hit the jump for my review.

The first full trailer for season three of HBO’s Game of Thrones has been released online.  While I love the music for Game of Thrones and “Florence and the Machine,” the latter feels a bit out of place here, but who cares?! [Correction: the song is "Bones" by MS MR"]  Without giving away any spoilers from the books, we get glimpses of a flaming ship, a flaming sword, ranks upon ranks of well-trained soldiers in the desert and yes, a dragon in full flight!  I’m ecstatic to return to Westeros in about a month, how about you?

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The series stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Michelle Fairley, Emilia Clarke, Alfie Allen, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Jack Gleeson, Aidan Gillen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Richard Madden, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.  Game of Thrones returns March 31st.

As he wraps up filming the third season of HBO’s wildly popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, Jon Snow himself Kit Harington is lining up a high profile feature film to shoot during his upcoming hiatus.  Variety reports that Harington is in talks to star in director Paul W.S. Anderson’s period pic Pompeii.  For those unfamiliar, the city of Pompeii was destroyed and buried during a catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year AD 70.  Anderson’s film uses this disaster as the backdrop for the story of a shipping tycoon’s slave named Milo.  Hit the jump for more details.

Opening this weekend is Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.  The film is a sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, and centers on a daughter and father who are on the run from dangerous forces that remain unknown to the young girl.  When her father (Sean Bean) goes missing, the young girl (Adelaide Clemens) must set out to discover what happened.  When she becomes trapped in a demonic world, the girl learns she’s not who she thinks she is. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D also stars Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, and Malcolm McDowell.  For more on the film, here’s Matt recap of the NYCC panel, some clips, a TV spot, and the trailer.

Shortly before his panel at Comic-Con, I got to sit down with Kit Harington for an exclusive video interview.  We talked about how he got involved in Silent Hill, did he play the game, what it’s like to be at Comic-Con, what he collects, starring opposite Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in The Seventh Son, and more.  In addition, for all the Game of Thrones fans, Harington talked about the bigger budget for season three and how the season compares to seasons one and two.  Hit the jump to watch.

For me, there are two seminal video game horror franchises:  Resident Evil and Silent Hill.  Both came out for the original PlayStation, and they each had a niche.  Resident Evil was the haunted house story, and Silent Hill was the psychological horror.  When it comes to their film adaptations, Resident Evil has veered wildly away from the original games, and also become a huge franchise.  Meanwhile, Silent Hill was adapted in 2006, but it failed to leave an impression.  This month, Director Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) will try to bring the franchise back to life with Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.  The film had a panel at this year’s New York Comic-Con with Bassett, producer Samuel Hadida (who also produced the first film), and stars Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington.
