Filming has begun in Oahu, Hawaii for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to the 2008 release Journey to the Center of the Earth. Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) will reprise his role from the original, with Dwayne Johnson (The Other Guys) and Michael Caine (Inception) set to co-star along with Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), Luis Guzman (Nothing Like the Holidays) and Kristin Davis (Couples Retreat). Brad Peyton (Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) is set to direct the 3D family flick.

Hit the jump for the official announcement, plus some of my thoughts.

This method of revamping and "kiddifying" classic Jules Verne novels may not exactly be my cup of cinematic tea... but considering that the first film wasn’t completely without its charms, I suppose there’s no harm in giving it another shot. And come on -- who hasn’t, at some point in their lives, desired to see Sir Michael Caine in glorious three dimensions? That’s what I thought.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is set for release September 23, 2011.

Here's the official press release:
Production Underway on New Line Cinema’s 3D Family Adventure “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”

Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Kristin Davis to Star.

Expectations were high for the Sex and the City sequel we all knew was inevitable after the first movie’s opening weekend. With hundreds of women lined up hours in advance, decked out in heels and sipping Cosmos, how could Warner Brothers not cash in on the sequel?

And cash in they did producing a full-length feature film, complete with glittery gowns, muscular men and the quartet of friends taking a decadent vacation overseas. Collider caught up with the cast, appropriately enough, in the shoe department of Bergdorf-Goodman to dish on the details of the fun, the friends, and, of course, the fashion. To hear what Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Chris Noth and writer-director Michael Patrick King had to say, continue reading after the jump:

Writer Michael Patrick King said he was inspired to send the girls overseas by the movies made during the Great Depression. The intention, both then and now, was to take the audience on a vacation that they might not have been able to afford themselves.

“My inspiration for this movie was the audience at the first movie,” King said. “When I would see the audience showing up dressed and having cocktails before, in groups, going out, and I saw people taking pictures of themselves in the theater seats I thought, ‘This is an interactive party. This is no longer a movie.’”

King said the first thing he knew about the sequel was that he wanted it to be completely different from the first movie.

“I sat ...

Warner Bros. has released 9 movie clips from writer-director Michael Patrick King's Sex and the City 2. While SATC2 isn't going to appeal to a huge percentage of our audience, for some, it's one of the biggest movies of the year and on the same level as an Iron Man 2 or Inception. So if you'd a taste of the new adventures of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), hit the jump:

Also, the other day I posted a ton of new images and the production notes. If you're a fan of the series you definitely want to check them out. Finally, we have someone at the New York City press day for SATV2 today, so look for interviews soon. Until then...
SEX AND THE CITY 2

Writer-Director: Michael Patrick King

Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Jason Lewis, Mario Cantone, Willie Garson, John Corbett, Chris Noth

The fun, the fashion, the friendship: “Sex and the City 2″ brings it all back and more as Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) take another bite out of The Big Apple–and beyond–carrying on with their busy lives and loves in a sequel that truly sparkles. What happens after you say “I do”? Life is everything the ladies ever wished it to be, but it wouldn’t be “Sex and the City” if life didn’t hold a few more surprises…this time ...

Warner Bros. has released the full press kit for Sex and the City 2 and it features a ton of new images. While not everyone's cup of tea, I know a number of people who think SATC2 is the biggest movie of the year. I'm talking about my mom and my sister.

Anyway, if you're awaiting the new adventures of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), you can hit the jump for 39 high-res images. Also, WB has released the press notes for the movie, which features interviews with the entire cast and filmmakers, as well as what the movie is about and what went on behind the scenes. While meant for the press who will be writing stories about SATC2, if you're a big fan, you'll probably love reading the notes. Sex and the City 2 gets released May 27.

While everyone knows the sequel to Sex and the City is getting released May 27, Warner Bros. has kept the plot under wraps and fans of the show are getting restless. Thankfully, just a few days ago I got to speak with writer/director Michael Patrick King at ShoWest as a reporter for our partners at Omelete and he spilled a lot of the secrets to Sex and the City 2. So if you want to know what happens to Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, you're in the right place. Here's some of the highlights:

The girls go to Abu Dhabi.
He tells a great story as to how he came up with the story for the sequel and it involves the fans.
They filmed in Africa as the Middle East wasn't ready for the girls.
He points out very few movies actually show what happens after happily ever after.
He brings back Carrie's ex. He says he always asks people Mr. Big or Aidan...and they're both in the movie as Aidan is where the girls go on vacation.
We will still see lots of fashion and style even with the economic downturn.
Liza Minnelli plays herself but Penelope Cruz and Miley Cyrus don't.

Trust me, there is so much more in the interview. For the full transcript and the audio of the interview, hit the jump. If you're a fan of Sex and the City, I promise you'll love it.

As always, the complete transcript is below. If you'd like to listen to the ...

Of all the women in my life who watched the Sex and the City TV show, only one enjoyed the 2008 movie while everyone else had mixed to negative reactions to the film. I watched the film and while I know it wasn't for me, I couldn't help but feel like the film was overly long and felt suited towards a made-for-HBO movie than a big screen theatrical event. But my opinion and the opinions of my mom and female friends don't seem to matter much because Sex and the City 2 is hurdling towards us and the first trailer for the film has come online.

I don't have much to say about it other than there's two lame puns on the name "Carrie" and Kim Cattrall is almost unrecognizable and I don't mean that in a good way. Also, a female friend who liked the show but hated the first movie made an interesting point about the sequel: now that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is married, what's the point? How would her character even have a job since her column was about single life in Manhattan? I don't know the answer to that question nor do I particularly care. Sex and the City 2 isn't for me.

But if you think it may be for you, check out the trailer after the jump. Sex and the City 2 hits theaters on May 28, 2010.

Opening tomorrow is director Peter Billingsly's "Couples Retreat". The movies about four couples that decided to go to a tropical resort and work out their marital problems and have some fun. Along for the ride are Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Faizon Love. Anyway, to help promote the film, Universal recently held an international press day in Los Angeles and our partners at Omelete asked me to cover it. So thanks to them, you can watch my interview with Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman after the jump. They talked about how the film came together, Guitar Hero, filming in Bora Bora, and a lot more:

Finally, here's a link to some movie clips from "Couples Retreat".

Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman

	Have they been to Brazil
Filming in Bora Bora...vacation or work
Vince talks about the script and how it came together
I've heard Vince changes lines all the time on set...is that true
Why Guitar Hero over Rock Band
Any deleted scenes they were sad to see cut out

As most of you are aware, opening tomorrow is director Peter Billingsly's "Couples Retreat". The film was written by Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn & Dana Fox and it's about four couples that go away to a tropical resort to try and work out their marital problems and have some fun. Along for the ride are Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Faizon Love. Anyhow, Universal recently held an international press day and our partners at Omelete asked me to cover it. So thanks to them, after the jump you can watch my interview with Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell. As you might imagine when dealing with these two, the interview was a lot of fun and they were great together. I think you'll like it.

Finally, here's a link to some movie clips from "Couples Retreat".

Jason Bateman and Kirsten Bell

I thank Kristen for the Comic-Con sort of interview
Have either of them been to Brazil
How much fun was it to play these characters
What were Vince and Jon like on set
Filming in Bora Bora vacation or work
When you work with a big cast, is it easier as an actor knowing you don't have to carry the entire film
	Hancock 2 talk

Opening on October 9th is director Peter Billingsley's "Couples Retreat". So to help promote the film, we've been given seven clips and you can watch them after the jump. Also, I just interviewed the entire cast, so look for those interviews soon.

Finally, we've started posting film clips in a new way. Since the site runs pre-roll (it pays for all the bandwidth), we've started posting all the clips in one video. What that means is, once you push play, you'll probably have to sit through one commercial and then all the clips will play in order.
