Well, if you weren’t disappointed enough in Scott Stewart‘s film Legion when it hit theaters back in 2010, maybe he can leave a bad taste in your mouth on TV this time. Deadline reports SyFy is developing a series adaptation of the film which followed the Archangel Michael (played in the film by Paul Bettany) as he disobeyed God’s orders and attempted to help the humans fight against a legion of angels sent to bring about the Apocalypse. I’ll give Stewart credit for knowing how to direct action, but the characters and story were weak sauce, and I can’t see how he can make things any better by directing and executive producing a TV adaptation of a film that just didn’t work. In addition, who will stand up to the sheer commanding presence of Paul Bettany? It’s going to be a tough sell.
Even with Saturday’s family trade and higher ticket prices, Disney’s 3D re-issue of Beauty and the Beast could not catch Contraband this weekend. From its 2,863 locations Universal’s R-rated drama took in an estimated $24.1 million – a figure well above early expectations for the Mark Wahlberg vehicle. The other BIG news is the changing fortunes of last weekend’s number one film, The Devil Inside. Estimates have taken the film from number six – down to number eleven – and back up to number seven all within an hour. We’re hoping to get it right this with this one but, keep in mind, it’s all estimates until Monday morning…

The summer movie season is only two weeks old and, here it is, napping on the job. The respite did give Thor another opportunity to flex his muscles before the blockbusters of May get back to work next weekend, however. The Marvel hero easily conquered his competition to take first place for the second week in a row with an estimated $34.5 million.

Though overpowered by the Na’vi, Legion opened to a respectable $18.2 million, while two other new releases found less success over the weekend; The Tooth Fairy entered theaters with a so-so $14.5 million, and Extraordinary Measures barely made a dent, earning only $7 million. More on the top ten after the jump.

Since I’ve already posted a ton of coverage/interviews for Legion, I’m going to keep this intro brief. If you don’t know about the film, here’s a ton of movie clips and a synopsis.
Anyway, last week I got to talk with the cast and it’s time for my final video interview and it’s with Paul Bettany. While Bettany playing a former angel wielding machine guns might be a touch out of character for this great British actor, he tells me that’s one of the reasons he wanted to do the movie. Also, we talked about his next movie Priest and he tells me he’s about to once again record the voice of Jarvis in Iron Man 2 (the voice of Tony Stark’s house). If you’re a fan of this great actor, or just curious about Legion, hit the jump to watch the interview:

Opening tomorrow is writer/director Scott Stewart‘s Legion. The movie stars Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Adrianne Palicki, Charles S. Dutton, Jon Tenney, Kevin Durand, Willa Holland, Kate Walsh and Dennis Quaid. Here’s the synopsis:
Legion find a dusty diner in the Mojave Desert becomes ground zero for earth’s final showdown, in this startlingly original and terrifying vision of the Apocalypse. As mankind destroys itself in a savage fury, a small group of people trapped on the edge of nowhere prepare to make a last stand with the help of a mysterious and powerful stranger.
To help promote the film, I recently got to speak to one of the kings of Twitter…Tyrese Gibson. During the interview, we talked about what got him involved in Legion, how many tweets is too many in one day, the Gladis scene, his thoughts on the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen reviews, and I tried to find out what’s up with Transformers 3. It’s a great interview so take a look:

To help promote the film, I got to speak with the entire cast and today’s interview is with Katie Walsh. To help promote the film, we’ve been given 6 clips and a featurette. You can watch everything after the jump:

A few weeks ago I got to see about twenty minutes from Screen Gems upcoming movie Legion. While I didn’t see enough footage to say if the final film is going to be worth our time, one of the clips they showed us was great, and it just so happens Screen Gems released a clip from the scene today. Since I’d rather not spoil it, hit the jump and check it out. But I will say it involves a grandma named Gladys…

Last week I went to Sony Studios for a set visit on Priest. While I’m embargoed from saying anything on that film, while I was there, we were shown around 20 minutes from Screen Gems upcoming Legion, and we were also provided a number of new images from the film.
If you’re not familiar with Legion, it’s a supernatural action thriller where an out-of-the-way diner becomes the unlikely battleground for the survival of the human race. When God loses faith in Mankind, he sends his legion of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. Humanity’s only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael (Paul Bettany). Legion also stars Dennis Quaid, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Kate Walsh, Adrianne Palicki, Charles S. Dutton and Willa Holland.
Hit the jump for my thoughts on the footage and the images:

There haven’t been a ton of trailers this year that have genuinely put a smile on my face. The red-band trailer for “Legion,” however, was one of them. I don’t know if everything I smiled at was the desired reaction, however I smiled and that means I’m going to see the film. Anyhow, some new banner images have just been revealed for “Legion,” and they look pretty decent. Amongst them Charles S. Dutton does not appear, and that doesn’t speak too well for the mortality of his character. Hit the jump to see them:

I didn’t hear a lot of buzz out of Comic-Con for “Legion” which was a little strange considering it had a pretty neat premise: Paul Bettany plays a fallen angel who attempts to save humanity from all the other angels attempting to exterminate humanity. Read about my disappointment and see the trailer after the jump.

At this year’s Comic Con there was a panel featuring first time director Scott Stewart and cast on his film “Legion”. We were treated to a trailer from this film and a Q&A. To learn more about the film featuring “angels with machine guns” hit the jump.
