Warner Bros. has released two posters and three banners for Wrath of the Titans.  There’s no kraken this time around so none of the characters are going to say, “Let’s get kraken.”  I know the plot involves the titans getting unleashed and Zeus (Liam Neeson) asking Perseus (Sam Worthington) for some help, but I don’t get the point without kraken puns.  Kraken puns make the world go round.

Watch a Teaser for the BATTLESHIP Super Bowl TV Spot

Continuing with this year’s tradition of releasing every commercial online before it airs during Sunday’s Super Bowl, a teaser for the Battleship TV spot has gone online. The spot is a bit different from the previous trailers we’ve seen in that it’s incredibly sci-fi-y. Realizing that they’ve made a movie out of a board game, Universal really seems to be playing up the Transformers comparisons. Essentially, aliens decide to attack Earth at sea. The whole “Battleship” aspect comes into play as a giant forcefield appears around a group of naval ships and the alien attackers, locking everyone into a confined area in which to fire away. I’m really hoping that the tone of Peter Berg’s flick is cheeky and fun, but I’m not entirely sure that’s what we’re getting.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser. You can read our Battleship editing room visit here. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Liam NeesonBattleship opens May 18, 2012.

Darren Aronofsky Wants Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson for His Biblical Epic NOAH

Coming off the success of Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky wants to follow up with the most ambitious production of his career.  The film is Noah, an epic about the Biblical tale of Noah’s Ark with a price tag of $130 million.  You need a bankable star to get that kind of money.  Christian “Batman” Bale passed, and potential replacement Michael Fassbender is busy with his new fame and accolades.  Deadline hears that Aronofsky has finally found his Noah, and it is Russell Crowe.  The deal is not official yet, but the smart money is reportedly on Crowe.  Additionally, Aronofsky is said to be interested in offering another part to Liam Neeson.  The only other major role we know about is the villain of the movie who argues against Noah’s faith as he builds a massive ship to weather the impending flood.  As the physical embodiment of wisdom, I could see Neeson as the humanistic antagonist.

Paramount and New Regency want to start shooting Noah this summer for a 2013 release.  Hit the jump for more on the project.

TOP 5: 2012 Oscar Nods, CHUCK Series Finale Interviews, THE GREY, MAN ON A LEDGE, 2012 Sundance Coverage

So, after two weeks of talking about it, I finally caught Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire. My thoughts? I was satisfied. Not blown away. Not shaking my head in disappointment. Satisfied. Soderbergh’s fight scenes were as beautifully executed as can be reasonably expected. In my opinion, though, there just weren’t enough of them. David Holmes’ score was fantastic when set behind said fight/chase/action sequences so, by default, there just wasn’t enough of it. The same could be said for much of the ensemble cast. In large part, their screen time was time well served. There just wasn’t enough of it to go around. So, do I recommend Haywire? Sure. As long as you go in with the expectation of seeing a slick action/thriller that is somewhat light on action and thrills. Now, onto business…

…After the jump, you’ll find that this week’s “Top 5″ is comprised of the 2012 Oscar nominations, interviews from our Chuck series finale set visit, a number of interviews for both The Grey and Man on a Ledge, and an ode to all of our 2012 Sundance coverage. A quick recap and link to each follows.

THE GREY Review

by Bill Graham    Posted: January 26th, 2012 at 6:57 pm

The world really couldn’t care less. That’s the opinion of Joe Carnahan’s The Grey, a bleak and gritty look at survival in the middle of Alaska’s harsh wilderness. This is man versus nature to an extreme extent, and there exists few gimmicks. Carnahan seems to have taken a back to basics approach and delivers the goods. Considering his past few films and their loud, cartoonish ways, there is an odd confidence that the course he is on is something worth sticking with. Liam Neeson is a standout among his fellow survivors, but everything works towards a common goal that doesn’t feel hampered by conventions. While it may be bleak, the journey is entertaining because of all the surprises and the sheer quality of the product. Hit the jump for my full review.

Red Band Trailer for THE GREY

Director Joe Carnahan’s survival thriller The Grey opens this weekend, and a last-minute red band trailer for the film has been released online. The pic stars Liam Neeson and centers on a group of plane crash survivors who have landed in the hunting zone of a rogue pack of wolves in the Alaskan tundra. As you can expect, Neeson goes all badass on the wolves, and that’s on full-display here in this new trailer. I think this is the best look at the film we’ve seen yet, as it gives both a sufficient plot setup and a nice tease of the intense action to come.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. If you missed it, be sure to check out Steve’s interview with Neeson. The film also stars Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, and Frank Grillo. The Grey opens this Friday, January 27th.

With director Joe Carnahan’s (Narc, Smokin’ Aces, and The A-Team) awesome survival-action flick The Grey opening this weekend, I recently got the chance to talk with the cast.  Starring Liam Neeson, Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Nonso Anozie, and Joe Anderson, The Grey is about a group of oilmen who have crash landed in the hunting zone of a rogue pack of wolves in the Alaskan tundra.  If you’re a fan of the cast, Carnahan, or just well made movies, The Grey will not disappoint.

During my interview with Neeson we talked about the challenges of making the film, how he got involved in the project, how many takes he likes to do, and which movie more people want to talk about when the meet him: Love Actually, Batman Begins or Star Wars.  In addition Neeson we talked about how filming on Taken 2 has been going, and if they feel any pressure after the first film was both a commercial and critical hit.  Hit the jump to watch.

Pop quiz, hot shot: you have a choice between facing a pack of hungry wolves protecting their territory in the Alaskan wilderness or Liam Neeson armed with broken-bottle glass-knuckles. Before you answer, you should check out these new clips from Neeson’s upcoming “man vs nature” flick, The Grey. In it, Neeson leads a crew of oil rig roughnecks in a race for survival after their plane crashes in the barren north. We’ve previously brought you two different trailers and even marked the film as one of “Collider’s Most Anticipated” of early 2011. What else do you want from us? Oh, right. The clips.

The Grey, by director Joe Carnahan, also stars Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Badge Dale and Nonso Anozie. It opens in theaters January 27th. Hit the jump to check out the clips and a new banner poster.

Director Joe Carnahan Talks Mark Millar’s NEMESIS and KILLING PABLO; Says Liam Neeson Would Make Fantastic Blake Morrow for NEMESIS

Joe Carnahan Nemesis killing pablo interview slice

After 2010’s feature film adaptation of The A-Team, director Joe Carnahan is back on the scene with his action-survival flick The Grey. The pic is garnering some pretty great advanced buzz, especially for the bad-assnes of star Liam Neeson, and Steve recently sat down with the director to talk about the film. While we’ll have the full interview up soon, we wanted to share a few interesting tidbits that Carnahan revealed regarding a couple of his upcoming projects.

The director spoke a bit about his adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic Nemesis, revealing that he and Millar have talked about the possibility of Neeson playing Blake Morrow in the pic. Additionally, Carnahan spoke at length about his Pablo Escobar epic Killing Pablo, saying that it’s the film he hopes to make next. The director also talked about dropping out of Umbra, the happy coincidence of The A-Team not being a big hit, and more. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

First Trailer and Poster for WRATH OF THE TITANS [Updated With New Posters]

The first trailer for Wrath of the Titans has gone online.  I was disappointed by Clash of the Titans, but the trailer has somewhat restored my interest in the sequel.  Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) has taken the reigns from Louis Leterrier and obviously the action scenes are bigger because that’s what sequels do.  But I was taken with the imaginative design for the sets and the creatures.  Presumably the 3D will be much better this time around since it’s not a post-converstion.  But the larger question remains: Is the script any better?  Here’s hoping. [Correction: It is a post-conversion. I was under the impression the filmmakers didn't want to do something so blatantly stupid.]

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund PikeWrath of the Titans opens March 30, 2012. [Update: A couple of crazy banners a new image have been released, which are now included after the jump.]

New Trailer, Poster, and Images for BATTLESHIP

A new trailer for director Peter Berg‘s Battleship has landed online. Three thoughts: First off, there needs to be a comma between “Hasbro” and “the”.  Second, Hasbro and Universal want this movie to be Transformers so badly and it’s utterly pathetic to watch them try.  Third, for a movie that supposedly takes place at sea, there’s an awful lot of land.  But watching this trailer, I’m beginning to understand why Universal is unloading all of their Hasbro properties as fast as possible.

New Trailer for THE GREY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 2nd, 2011 at 8:17 am

A new trailer has gone online for Joe Carnahan’s survival-action flick The Grey.  Once again, Liam Neeson plays a man with a very special set of skills, but this time it’s about surviving against the wild rather than surviving Paris.  Neeson’s character must help a group of oil-rig roughnecks after their plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness.  I’ve enjoyed all of Carnahan’s previous movies (Narc, Smokin’ Aces, and The A-Team) and I can’t remember the last time we saw a solid men-vs-wild movie (maybe The Edge?  It has Anthony Hopkins rasslin’ grizzly bears).  I continue to hope that this movie delivers with the force of broken-bottle knuckles.

Liam Neeson Knows AIDS Is Ripe for Improvisational Comedy in New Clip from LIFE’S TOO SHORT

Last month, we showed you a clip from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant‘s new TV series Life’s Too Short starring Warwick Davis (Harry Potter).  The clip had Johnny Depp lampooning himself by going after Gervais’ hosting of the Golden Globes.  It was pretty funny and it was good to know that someone was looking out for Tim Allen.  This new clip absolutely blows it away.  In the latest clip, Liam Neeson comes in to talk with Gervais and Merchant about expanding into comedy.  Neeson, Gervais, and Merchant use Neeson’s dramatic gravitas to brilliant effect and show that improv, Oscar-nominees, and contracting AIDS from an African prostitute is an odd but hilarious mixture.

First Trailer for STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE 3D [Updated]

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: October 23rd, 2011 at 6:10 pm

As you most likely already know, all six Star Wars films are being re-released in theaters in 3D, starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace (ie. you have to sit through the prequels before seeing The Empire Strikes Back on the big screen again). The first trailer for Episode I has been released, and it does a pretty good job of selling the re-release. It begins with scenes from all six films in a tiny box, in order to remind you that even though you just bought the complete saga on Blu-ray, your TV is incredibly small and insufficient when compared to a movie theater. The actual scenes from Episode I look fine, and the pod-racing scene should be pretty spectacular. Unfortunately, the 3D doesn’t necessarily enhance Jake Lloyd.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D opens on February 10th, 2012.

New posters have been released for the family holiday flick Arthur Christmas (click here for Steve’s recent footage recap/interview), the men-vs-wolves survival thriller The Grey, the crime drama Contraband, and the horror sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.  Today’s a busy day so let me just break down the respective posters: bad puns, Neeson’s mug sells tickets, Wahlberg is fake scratching an itch so he can show off his sweet new moneybelt, and slightly better pun.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Arthur Christmas opens November 23rd, The Grey opens January 27th, Contraband opens January 13th, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D opens October 5, 2012.
