Seeing as it’s already February and that little furry rodent has predicted six more weeks of winter, we thought we’d take a look ahead to some March movie releases. Coincidentally, three big March movies have recently released new posters. First up is Disney’s March 9th release, John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch as a Civil War vet transplanted onto Mars, in an Andrew Stanton-directed picture. Next is the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed 21 Jump Street, a March 16th release starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two screw-up cops who infiltrate a local high school drug ring. Finally, we have a new poster from the Tarsem Singh project, Mirror Mirror, a Snow White adaptation featuring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts which opens March 30th. Hit the jump to see the new posters.

After we reported that Relativity Media was pushing its Snow White project Mirror Mirror back until March 30th, the studio decided to release a new international trailer. While it’s still nowhere near as mature or action-filled as the Universal counterpart Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, it’s heads above the horrendous first trailer. This is more along the lines of what I was expecting from director Tarsem Singh as I can at least pick up on his presence here.
Mirror Mirror stars Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

Fede Alvarez‘ remake of Sam Raimi‘s The Evil Dead has lost its star. While things looked to be moving quickly, Variety’s Jeff Sneider now reports that Lily Collins has had to withdraw from the project due to scheduling issues. The only other project on her slate (that we know of) is the adaptation of The Mortal Instruments, so it’s possible that the shooting schedule for that film is the culprit. Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are all producing the update based on Raimi’s 1981 horror film, and they hand-selected Alvarez to direct. Plot details are still scarce at this point, but Diablo Cody (who did some rewrite work on the script) described the project as “unbelievably violent.”
The lead in the remake will undoubtedly be a coveted role, so it’ll be interesting to see who steps in to replace Collins. The Abduction actress will next be seen in Tarsem Singh’s Snow White pic Mirror Mirror. The Evil Dead is slated for April 12th, 2013.

It’s officially 2012, which means we’re that much closer to the first of two Snow White films set for release this year. First out of the gate will be director Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror (followed by Snow White and the Huntsman this summer). A gallery of new official set photos from the film has been released, giving us a look into Singh’s artistic process of bringing Snow White to life. The trailer for Mirror Mirror (described as a “comedic adventure) wasn’t exactly promising, but the visuals on display in these photos are pretty stunning. Disney regular Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) is working on the score for the film, so it’s safe to say that we’re in for a pretty fluffy version of the Snow White fairy tale.
Hit the jump to check out the photos. The film stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, and Sean Bean. Mirror Mirror opens March 16th, 2012.

Fede Alvarez‘ remake of Sam Raimi‘s The Evil Dead has landed its first piece of major casting with Lily Collins (The Blind Side) in final negotiations to play the role of “Mia”. Like the original, the new version centers on five friends who go to a remote cabin and unleash dark forces when they read from the Necronomicon. From there, the evil starts possessing each member of the group until only one remains and must fight for survival. Per Bloody Disgusting, Mia is headed to the cabin to detox after a recent overdose. Struggling with her new-found sobriety, “she begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!” Co-writer Diablo Cody has said the script is unbelievable violent, and BD says there’s also a drug subplot.
Collins had a rough 2011 with both Priest and Abduction receiving critical scorn and flopping at the box office. Her 2012 may not get much easier as she’s starring as Snow White in Tarsem Singh’s rushed and atrocious-looking Mirror, Mirror. The young actress is also attached to star in the indie comedy The English Teacher and the adaptation of the young adult novel The Mortal Instruments. The Evil Dead is due out April 12, 2013.

We’ve got a couple of new posters to share with you today. First up is an international poster for the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menance. There’s not much to it, as it’s basically just Yoda getting his stare on. Apparently overseas Yoda is the big draw to get people to see Episode I again, while in the U.S. it’s Darth Maul and pod racers. Additionally, we’ve got a poster for Tarsem Singh’s Snow White film Mirror Mirror. Every new piece of marketing material for the flick makes it less and less appealing. The trailer was beyond strange, and this poster ups the “fluffy” factor even more. Maybe kids will respond, but at this point I don’t see teenagers/adults flocking to this Snow White tale.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D opens February 10th, 2012, and Mirror Mirror is slated for March 16th, 2012.

Fresh off the first trailer for the battle-heavy Snow White and the Huntsman, Relativity has released the first look at their take on Snow White, Mirror Mirror. Directed by Tarsem Singh, the fantasy film is described as a “comedic adventure”and centers on Snow White (Lily Collins) setting out to reclaim her birthright from the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts). Mirror Mirror couldn’t be more different from Huntsman. It’s light, fluffy, and goofy. It’s also pretty close to terrible. The film almost comes off as a farce, it’s just so incredibly goofy. It’s as if Adam Sandler‘s Happy Madison decided to make a Snow White movie. With Tarsem at the helm, we’re sure to be in for a visual treat, but I fear the tone may painfully overshadow the extravagant visuals.

We’ve got another batch of posters and synopses from the American Film Market, including promo posters and synopses for Tarzan 3D and The Impossible, as well as an official synopsis for the feature film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale Tarzan comes in the form of a 3D animated adaptation. Reinhard Klooss (Animals United) is directing from a script that Klooss co-wrote with Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments). Additionally, The Impossible comes from The Orphanage director J.A. Bayona and stars Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Holland. The film tells the true story of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, as Watts races to find and save her family from the ensuing flood.
Finally, we’ve got the official synopsis for the feature film adaptation of the popular teen book series The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The 3D film stars Lily Collins as a girl who is transported to another world when she meets a mysterious half-angel known as a Shadowhunter. Hit the jump to see the promo posters and synopses.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Lily Collins has joined the cast of the indie comedy The English Teacher. The actress joins Julianne Moore, Nathan Lane, Greg Kinnear, and Michael Angarano in Craig Zisk’s feature directorial debut. The pic centers on a high school English teacher (Moore) whose life takes a turn when one of her favorite former students (Angarano) returns to his hometown as a failed playwright. The teacher convinces her former pupil to stage the uproduced play at her school, and all does not go according to plan. Collins will play “a popular high schooler who comes into conflict with the teacher.” The actress is currently filming the starring role in Tarsem Singh’s Untitled Snow White Project.
Hit the jump for casting news concerning Roman Coppola’s Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan. [Update: We've been sent the press release for Collins' casting. It's included after the jump].

Six new images from Tarsem Singh’s untitled Snow White film have gone online. Since this is a Tarsem film, the costumes and set design are opulent and grandiose to the point of being comical. One of the images has Snow White (Lily Collins) wearing a swan for a hat. Aside from swan hats, the images also provide the first look at Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Armie Hammer as the Prince, and the seven dwarfs. This movie isn’t to be confused with the other Snow White film set for 2012, Snow White and the Huntsman. While that one is being set up as a kind of Lord of the Rings-style fantasy adventure, screenwriter Jason Keller calls Singh’s Snow White movie a “comedic adventure” with action elements. The story has Snow trying to reclaim her birthright from the Evil Queen and fighting with her for the affection of the Prince. I’m not sure how swan hats figure into that.
Hit the jump to check out the images plus more info on the film, which also stars Nathan Lane and Sean Bean. The untitled Snow White movie opens March 16, 2012.

The action thriller Abduction tells the story of Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner), a high school teenager who has the uneasy feeling that he’s living someone else’s life. His therapist, Dr. Geri Bennett (Sigourney Weaver), tries to talk him through his intense nightmares, but when he stumbles upon an image of himself as a little boy on a missing persons website, he realizes his parents (played by Jason Isaacs and Maria Bello) are not his own and that his entire life is a lie. Targeted by a team of trained killers, he is forced to go on the run with the only person he can trust, his neighbor Karen (Lily Collins), who he’s had a crush on for years.
At the film’s press day, actress Sigourney Weaver spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about the fun of playing roles originally written for men, what she enjoys about working with younger actors like co-stars Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins, and that she would be interested in exploring this character more, if there were to be a sequel. She also talked about how fun it is for her to see the ways kick-ass women have evolved in film, what made her want to jump into the vampire genre for Amy Heckerling’s upcoming comedy Vamps, and how her next role will be as a professor of queer theory in a film called It Is What It Is. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

We have three clips from Taylor Lautner’s upcoming actioner Abduction to bring you today. Directed by John Singleton (Four Brothers), the film centers on Lautner’s character as he attempts to find out why his baby photo is posted on a missing persons website. Lily Collins, Alfred Molina, Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs also star in the pic which will act as the first true gauge of Lautner’s solo box office prowess. Check out the clips after the jump. Abduction opens on September 23rd.

We have a couple quick casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Abigail Breslin has signed on to star in the dark indie drama The Class Project. Per Variety, “Story follows two sisters who, tired of their mother’s alcoholism and her abusive boyfriends, take matters into their own hands and plot to kill her.” I want to make fun of that logline, but it actually sounds like an intriguing premise and a nice development for the Little Miss Sunshine star. Stan Brooks will direct from a script by Fabrizio Filippo and Adam Till. Shooting begins later this month.
Breslin recently did some voice acting for Gore Verbinski’s Rango and she’ll next be seen in Gerry Marshall’s massive romantic comedy New Year’s Eve. Hit the jump for casting news on the Romeo & Juliet spinoff/re-imagining, Rosaline.

The first image of Lily Collins in Relativity Media’s Untitled Snow White Project has landed online. Starring Collins, Julia Roberts, Sean Bean, Armie Hammer, and Nathan Lane, the film is described as a “spirited adventure comedy” that sees Snow White reclaim her Princess birthright. Bean, who was cast just last week, will play the King (a.k.a. Snow White’s father) whose kingdom has been destroyed by Roberts’ evil Queen.
Check out the image of Collins after the jump. Directed by Tarsem Singh, the film is currently slated to open on March 16th, 2012.
[Update: Relativity has uploaded the high resolution, now featured after the jump.]

A couple weeks ago, we reported that Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga: New Moon), Ed Speleers (Eragon), and Leebo Freeman were all in the running for the male lead in Scott Charles Stewart’s adaptation of the young adult book series The Mortal Instruments. Deadline is now reporting that Bower has won that race and will play Jace Wayland. Jace is a member of a group known as “Shadowhunters” who are warriors devoted to ridding the world of demons. The book’s protagonist Clary Fray (played by Lily Collins and I swear I’m not making up these character names) witnesses a murder and is eventually drawn into the world of the Shadowhunters. In the synopsis, Jace is described as “a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk.” Is the tagline for this movie going to be “This totally isn’t anything like Twilight, but if you liked Twilight, you should see this movie.”
