Twenty-five years ago, Thundercats aired a made-for-TV movie composed of five episodes of the highly popular series. We already know that 2011 looks to feature a re-imagined version of Thundercats on the small screen. What’s more interesting is that possible test footage from a proposed Thundercats CGI film project was recently released.
We’ve previously reported that the Warner Bros. had video-game art director Jerry O’Flaherty (Gears of War) set to direct the Thundercats movie as far back as 2007. While it seems as if this project is still shelved, we found the footage to be worth a look. Hit the jump to check it out.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has sent over some high resolution images of the new Thundercats toys that are arriving later this year. While I never thought the Thundercats would get rebooted, I have to say, I’m really curious what the new animated show will look like. As a fan of the 80′s cartoon, I hope they don’t screw it up. Already I’m not crazy about the look of the new Lion-O and Snarf, but, again, I’m willing to give it a chance. Hit the jump to check out the toys. The new Thundercats premieres later this year on Cartoon Network.

If you’re a fan of ThunderCats and have been curious who might voice Lion-O on the new Cartoon Network show arriving in 2011, you’ll be happy to learn Larry Kenney is returning to voice Lion-O again. The news comes from Rosemary Ward’s Facebook page (via toynewsi). Ward works in costuming and she posted:
“Interesting Thundercat News! Talking to the a talent agency just now in regards to Larry Kenney, I found out He’ll be voicing Lion-O again!

UPDATE: I’ve been told by someone at the studio that we may have jumped the gun. According to the studio, Larry Kenney will be voicing King Claudus who is Lion-O’s father.

With the success of 80′s properties like Transformers and G.I. Joe at the box office, it’s little wonder that movie studios are looking at what else they can grab from that decade so they can mine it for box office gold. As most of you know, Hollywood is trying to make Robotech, He-Man and Voltron movies, and while those could be very cool, the one 80′s property I’ve always wanted to see is Thundercats.
I don’t know why this cartoon means so much to me (maybe it’s the cool logo), but I’ve always thought the story of humanoid cats fleeing their exploding world was ripe with potential. Also, Mumm-Ra was awesome. But even though I’d love to see it, I’ve spoken to a few reliable sources and they tell me the movie is no longer happening at Warner Bros. I wish I wasn’t reporting that news.
But if you’re a fan of Thundercats toys and video games, then I got some good news for you as well. Hit the jump for more:
