Live Free or Die Hard

DIE HARD 5 Moves Forward with Skip Woods Writing the Script

True to its title, Die Hard franchise is tough to kill.  Risky Business reports that 20th Century Fox is in talks to hire screenwriter Skip Woods (Hitman, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) to pen a script for Die Hard 5.  For those who are unfamiliar with the Die Hard movies (and if so, you scare and confuse me), the revolve around detective John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) and his very bad day fighting terrorists, getting the shit kicked out of him, and cracking-wise all the while.  His most recent outing, 2007′s Live Free or Die Hard, was the first PG-13 installment, and while it was passable, Willis was showing his age and McClane lacked the bite he displayed in the previous three films.  Also, elements like using fire hydrants and cars as projectile weapons plus single-handedly taking down a fighter jet didn’t feel true to the series.

But Live Free racked up $383 million worldwide so I’m surprised it’s taken this long to get some momentum on a new sequel.  There’s no word regarding plot, whether or not Bruce Willis would return, or who will direct.

In a new interview with MTV Movies Blog for his upcoming action/comedy, Cop Out, action demi-god Bruce Willis let slip a few nuggets on the fifth installment of the venerable Die Hard franchise. According to Willis, the latest wrong place, wrong time adventure of everyman cop, John McClain, could be starting principle photography as soon as next year. Willis also mentions that he’d be excited to work with Len Wiseman, director of 2007′s Live Free or Die hard, the successful third sequel to the original film. For a few more of Bruce’s ideas on the fifth film and a couple musings on the Die Hard series, hit the jump…before it explodes.

Len Wiseman, the man who abused his blue-filter privileges for Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, will follow up 2007′s Live Free or Die Hard with an end-of-the-world flick entitled Nocturne.  According to THR, 20th Century Fox has picked up the project based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position.  The project is currently looking for writers for what I have to say is not a bad premise.

As for Wiseman, his other potential projects, including the underwater military action flick Atlantis Rising and the futuristic war movie Shrapnel (why all the killing, Wiseman?), but doesn’t have a go picture.  Wiseman has been a non-starter for some potentially major films like a remake of Escape from New York and an adaptation of the popular video game Gears of War.
