Two new images and set photo from Rian Johnson‘s Looper have gone online. The futuristic thriller takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the black market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed. As a huge fan of Johnson’s previous films, Brick and The Brothers Bloom, Looper is easily one of my most-anticipated films of the year, and I’m happy to get a few more glances at the flick.

When Sony took the stage at CinemaCon 2012 yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas, they had a short one hour window to show off their various upcoming movies. As we sat in the darkened theater waiting for the presentation to begin, we debated how could they have the stars and filmmakers talk about their movies and also show off tons of footage. But rather than follow the typical studio roadmap, Sony decided to just show a non-stop sizzle reel sans movie stars that included the world premiere of Skyfall footage (a teaser trailer) and tons of new footage from all their 2012 films included The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall, Looper, Resident Evil: Retribution, Hope Springs, Premium Rush, Hotel Transylvania, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, and Men in Black 3. More after the jump.

While walking around at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I’ve been taking tons of pictures of all the posters/banners/theater standees that have been on display. For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year, and where vendors can show new products for theaters to buy. It’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners. Besides showing off never before seen footage, the studios often bring the cast and the filmmakers. Over the course of a few days, Hollywood comes to Las Vegas.
While a lot of the banners are just logos, I think they’re still worth checking out. Also, it’s important to note that the posters/displays change during the week so you never know when something cool will premiere. Hit the jump for posters/banners for a ton of movies including James Bond Skyfall, Dark Shadows, Moonrise Kingdom, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, Sinister, The Amazing Spider-Man, House at the End of the Street, The Host, Battleship, Looper, Step Up Revolution, Ted, Sinister, Here Comes the Boom, and so many more.

Our goal for The Collision‘s runtime is to always keep the show between 45 minutes and an hour. However, we broke that rule this week so we could spend time talking about The Cabin in the Woods. This is also our first show where we instituted spoiler protection, so everything Cabin was placed at the end of the show (specifically, it starts at the 41:55 mark). But for those who don’t want to hear about Cabin just yet, we’ve still got plenty of great podcast for you. We talk about the Catching Fire director wish list, teasers for trailers, Lockout, our weekly recommendations, and at one point my microphone drops out for a minute and we just keep going anyway! You can also hear my awesome new speech impediment from having braces put back on my teeth. The show is rough, tumble, and a whole lotta fun. Once again, we encourage you to give us your thoughts on the podcast by either sounding off in the comments section or shooting a tweet @CollisionCast. We’re still figuring out this podcast, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us shape the program.

After posting the trailer for director Rian Johnson’s Looper yesterday, some of you may have been left with questions about the time-traveling assassin flick. As luck has it, Johnson took a few minutes to dissect the trailer and call out specific things that fans should be anticipating. Johnson not only spoke about the look of the film, in what he called a “grounded science fiction world,” but also advised fans to wait and see Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance in make-up to get the total picture. He also commented on filming action scenes with Bruce Willis, saying that the veteran “showed us the ropes.” Looper also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, and Jeff Daniels and opens on September 28th. Hit the jump to see Johnson’s commentary and trailer for Looper.

The first trailer for writer-director Rian Johnson‘s Looper has gone online. As a huge fan of Johnson’s previous work, Brick and The Brothers Bloom, I was already pretty damn excited for Looper, but this trailer is incredibly cool. I love the premise and cast, and it looks as if Johnson has applied his wholly original filmmaking style to the sci-fi genre to great success. I still don’t entirely know how Gordon-Levitt’s Bruce Willis impression is gonna play for an extended period of time, but it’s a minor qualm and I really haven’t seen enough footage to make a fair assessment. All in all, I’m willing to bet Johnson’s about to go 3 for 3.

I’m annoyed with teasers for trailers, but with Looper I’ll make an exception. Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi film is one of my most-anticipated of the year, and this tease only makes me more amped for the picture. For those unfamiliar with the flick, the futuristic thriller takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the black market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed. I’ve been a little skeptical of the make-up job to make Gordon-Levitt look like Willis, but the tease puts my fears to rest because it works when you see it in motion.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser, and if you missed it on Friday, click here to check out the poster. The full trailer will be online in three day. Looper opens September 28th and co-stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, and Jeff Daniels. [Update: We've updated the article with two more teasers that offer more new footage.]

The first poster for Rian Johnson‘s Looper has gone online. I adore Johnson’s previous movies, Brick and The Brothers Bloom, and Looper is one of my most-anticipated films of the year. I’m still distracted by the make-up design that was used to make Gordon-Levitt resemble Willis, but Johnson has earned my trust. The poster borrows the Inception font (I believe the font is officially called “Gotham”), and while I love the tagline, Gordon-Levitt looks like he’s CG. Handsome CG, but still CG.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Looper opens on September 28th.

One of my most anticipated movies of 2012 is writer-director Rian Johnson‘s Looper. If the name Rian Johnson doesn’t mean anything to you, I strongly suggest renting Brick and The Brothers Bloom. After you see them, you’ll understand why films nerds can’t wait to see what’s next from the director. If you haven’t heard of Looper, the futuristic thriller takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the Black Market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed. For more on the film, here’s the first images, and Dave’s recap of the WonderCon panel.
After the panel, I got to sit down with Johnson for an extended interview. We talked about being at WonderCon, the plot of the film, the rules of time travel in movies and what films he looked to for inspiration, the music (which will be done by his cousin, Nathan Johnson), what he learned from a friends and family screening, the running time and deleted scenes, whether or not they’ll do a viral campaign, and more. Hit the jump to watch. Looper hits theaters September 28.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, from writer/director Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom), the mob uses time travel to get rid of someone by sending their target 30 years into the past where a hired gun (known as a “looper”) is waiting to assassinate them. And then, one day, a looper named Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) suddenly recognizes one of his targets as his future self (played by Bruce Willis). The film also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo and Jeff Daniels.
Prior to their panel presentation at WonderCon 2012, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt and filmmaker Rian Johnson met with press to talk about why they enjoy working together, the push and pull between how much to reveal about a movie and how much to keep secret, having Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis playing the same character at different ages, the nearly three-hour make-up process involved, how they would describe the futuristic universe of the film, the influences for the time travel, and whether this film could be the start of a franchise. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

With all the massive movies coming out this year (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hunger Games, The Avengers, Prometheus, Resident Evil: Retribution, etc), you might have lost track of Rian Johnson’s (Brick) Looper in the mix. That’s about to change. As part of Sony’s presentation at WonderCon 2012, the first trailer from the time-traveling sci-fi flick was shown. While you can get a look at some still images from the film here (including Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s awesome make-up), the trailer hasn’t released just yet. You’ll just have to trust me when I say that this is definitely a film to keep an eye on, even if coverage of other movies attempt to drown it out. The question you have to ask yourself is this: if faced with the order to assassinate your future self, could you pull the trigger?
Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt, opens on September 28th. Hit the jump to check out our recap.

We’ve got more sci-fi goodness to share on this fine WonderCon Saturday. Director Rian Johnson premiered the trailer for his new sci-fi film Looper at the film’s panel earlier today, and while the rest of us will have to wait a little while to get a peek at the film in motion, a couple new images have gone online to tide us over. These images show off the subtle makeup used to make Gordon-Levitt resemble Willis, and I’m very impressed. Johnson’s previous films—the noir drama Brick and the quirky con man story The Brothers Bloom—are splendid, and I can’t wait to see him take on the sci-fi genre.
Hit the jump to check out the images, and be sure to look for our full write-up from the film’s panel later tonight or tomorrow. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Looper opens on September 28th.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is an unlikely movie on many accounts. First of all, if you don’t know geography, there are no salmon in Yemen rivers. That’s the point of the movie, a Scottish fisheries administrator (Ewan McGregor) is hired by a Sheikh to transplant fish to his river so he can practice fly fishing. There the government scientist strikes up an unlikely romance with the Sheikh’s representative (Emily Blunt). Director Lasse Hallstrom strikes a balance of comedy, drama and romance.
Blunt and McGregor participated in a press day for the film in Los Angeles, joining together for roundtable interviews. The leading man and leading lady flirted generously and cracked up while discussing the film and some upcoming projects, including the fantasy fairy tale Jack the Giant Killer and the sci-fi action thriller Looper. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen opens Friday. Read the interview after the jump.

Just the other day, the full schedule for this year’s WonderCon was announced including presentations for Resident Evil: Retribution, Sound of My Voice, Battleship, Snow White and the Huntsman, Lockout and Community. It’s a pretty fantastic lineup, and now WonderCon 2012 has gotten even better. Today Sony has added The Amazing Spider-Man and Rian Johnson’s Looper to their panel (which already included Resident Evil) and a special presentation for 21 Jump Street has been announced. Fans should be getting a really good look at new Spider-Man stuff, and I’m insanely jealous of anyone seeing footage from the highly anticipated sci-fi pic Looper.
Director Marc Webb and Emma Stone will be onhand for Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield opens on Broadway in Death of a Salesman that night), while writer-director Rian Johnson and star Joseph Gordon-Levitt will present the first footage from Looper. Hit the jump for more info regarding these newly added panels. WonderCon 2012 takes place in Anaheim, California March 16th – 18th.

One of the many films to premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was writer-director So Young Kim‘s (In Between Days) For Ellen. Led by a fantastic performance by Paul Dano, the film’s about a struggling musician trying to keep custody of his very young daughter even though he’s never been around. The film also stars Jon Heder, Jena Malone, Margarita Levieva, and Shay Mandigo.
Shortly after seeing the film I got to sit down with Dano for an extended interview. We talked about being at Sundance, how he got involved in For Ellen, what it’s about, who he plays, how much fun he had playing a “narcissistic prick,” what it’s like to be in almost every frame of the movie, and if more people want to talk to him about The Girl Next Door, Little Miss Sunshine, or There Will Be Blood? In addition, with Dano involved in so many other projects, we also talked about Rian Johnson‘s Looper, Being Flynn with Robert De Niro, director Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris‘ He Loves Me, and how he’s hoping to do a film called Night Moves with Meek’s Cutoff director Kelly Reichardt.
