French director Louis Leterrier’s latest film, the magician heist thriller Now You See Me, is poised to hit theaters in a couple of weeks, but it appears that the filmmaker is gearing up to commit to his next project. Variety reports that the Incredible Hulk director is in early discussions to take the helm on a secretive project called Sea at War that was penned by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Taken). Besson is also producing through his EuropaCorp banner, but plot details are being kept very firmly under wraps—Leterrier couldn’t even read the script outside of Besson’s office.

Nevertheless, the pic is rumored to be a mermaid adventure film, which would put Leterrier back in the fantasy realm that he explored with 2010’s Clash of the Titans. Should he firmly commit to the project, we should start hearing more about Sea at War soon.

Last weekend I finally had the chance to check out director Rodney Ascher's The Shining analysis doc Room 237 on Xbox Live. The film garnered a rave review from Matt when he screened it at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and for the most part I share his enthusiasm for the pic. On one hand, it's unlike anything I've ever seen and I admire it for that exact reason. The extensive scenic analysis Room 237 employs, the hypnotic score, and its refusal to show the faces of those presenting their theories makes it an absolutely captivating ride that never lets you come up for air. On the other hand, I now have to live the rest of my life looking for Stanley Kubrick's airbrushed face in the clouds during The Shining's opening scene. And when/if I ever find it, what am I supposed to do with that information? Sigh.
I could go on about the film's individual parts, but suffice to say that I consider it required viewing for anyone with even a fleeting interest in film analysis, Kubrick, and/or The Shining. And with that I'll move on to the reason we're all here. In this week's Top 5 you'll have the pleasure of checking out a stellar new trailer and a slew of other assets from Man of Steel, our set visit recap for The Hangover Part III, the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, more set visit goodness for Now You See Me, and all of our CinemaCon ...

Last year on the set of Now You See Me, director Louis Leterrier talked about his reasons for wanting to make the film:
"I was looking for a great script. I wanted a great script with a great story, some great twist, some great characters. I was looking for it, looking for it, looking for it, and then I found this amazing script. So I was like, “This is it, this is for me.” And what I love about this script is that it's very respectful of the art of magic but also gives you a little bit of a peek behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz curtain, a little bit. Not too much, but that's what I want. So it really is a love letter to magic."
In addition, he compared the tone to Sneakers and Oceans 11, why he wanted to use practical effects and not CG, the importance of having the actors do their own tricks, why they shot on location in New Orleans, New York and Las Vegas, which tricks were the most difficult, how the project changed along the way, and so much more.

Here are a few highlights from the interview:

They didn’t do a lot of soundstage work on the film. Most of the scenes were shot on location in New Orleans, New York, Las Vegas, and Paris.
The actors did a lot of the magic themselves instead of using camera tricks for the illusions.
Leterrier was looking for a great script with a great story, a great ...

Morgan Freeman will join Jesse Eisenberg, Amanda Seyfried, Melanie Laurent, and Mark Ruffalo in Louis Leterrier's Now You See Me. The story revolves around FBI agents trying to stop a group of magicians known as "The Four Horsemen" who pull off bank heists during their acts and then shower their audiences with the loot. Eisenberg will play the lead magician, Seyfried plays the technician who builds the contraptions used by the magician-thieves, and Ruffalo is the main FBI agent. According to Variety, "Freeman is in talks to play Thaddeus, an ex-magician who has made a career out of exposing other magicians’ illusions, making him a despised figure within the magic community." It probably all started when he accidentally revealed the secret of the Aztec Tomb. It's a shame because he demanded to be taken seriously.

It sounds like this will be a fun role for Freeman and in the vein of his slightly silly performance in last year's Red. Freeman will next be seen in the family film Dolphin Tale. He's also set to star in Rob Reiner's Summer at Dog Dave's and he'll reprise his role as Lucius Fox in The Dark Knight Rises.

Now that Michael Bay has wrapped his trilogy of Transformers films, it looks like he's ready to move on to other exploding pastures. Since Paramount and Hasbro want to keep the fire burning on one of their biggest moneymakers, two major decisions lay ahead: when to release the next movie and who should direct it. Bay has been able to crank out Transformers film every two years since 2007, but his infrastructure, crew, and designs have remained in place as opposed to a new director who will, to some extent, have to start from scratch so as not to simply imitate Bay. Transformers 4 could come as early as summer 2013, but I would bet a summer 2014 date is more likely.
But who will direct it? Who can fill Bay's expensive, nonsensical shoes? It needs to be someone who can manage a big budget and even bigger special effects. It's not enough to make stuff blow up. You need to understand how to do it properly. After the jump you can check out my suggestions for six directors who could handle Optimus Prime and Friends.

Roland Emmerich
Yes, the Foundation trilogy and Singularity, and he's been offered Asteroids, but no one likes destruction like Roland Emmerich. He's destroyed the Earth with aliens, weather, and a cataclysm, so why not with giant robots? Like Bay, he's a storyteller who doesn't seem to care so much about telling stories as much as creating intense, unrelenting thrill rides for the audience. Also like Bay, while ...

Jesse Eisenberg has taken the lead role in Louis Leterrier's Now You See Me. As we reported in February, Edward Ricourt and Boaz Yakin's spec script is about "a crack FBI squad in a game of cat-and-mouse against a super team of the world’s greatest illusionists, who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances and showers the profits on to their audiences." Eisenberg will lead the magicians. Variety also reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has been offered a role, but his deal is more tentative.

Eisenberg is set to co-star in Woody Allen's next film and the indie comedy Predisposed. He's may also reunite with Noah Baumbach for While We're Young. He'll next be seen alongside Aziz Ansari and Danny McBride in Ruben Fleischer's heist comedy (why does Eisenberg love to steal in a humorous fashion?) 30 Minutes or Less.

Several months ago, we learned Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans) was circling a disaster film (then called Gravity) with this cool premise: "a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning and Earth begins to lose its gravity." Leterrier has officially signed on to produce and direct the movie, now called G, for Universal Pictures. The project is based on an original idea by producer Guymon Casady (The Expendables) that has drawn comparisons to The Day After Tomorrow and Taken. Leterrier, Casady, and fellow producers Mark Gordon (2012), George Nolfi and Michael Hackett (The Adjustment Bureau) are currently looking for writers to turn the visually rich logline into a script.

Heat Version confirms that Leterrier will first direct Now You See Me, a heist thriller that pits FBI agents against "a super team of the world’s greatest illusionists." Leterrier previously demonstrated a penchant for single-letter titles with his interest in the acclaimed comic book Y: The Last Man. I believe Y: The Last Man will reach the screen before I die (hopefully after I read it), but it seems increasingly unlikely that Leterrier will own the "Directed by" credit. Leterrier has two "go" projects on his plate, while last we checked he was struggling to find financing for Y. No matter -- Now You See Me has potential, and G sounds positively cool.

Despite the film's critical drubbing, the financial success of Clash of the Titans ($493 million worldwide) surely opened some doors for director Louis Letterier (especially once he handed the franchise keys to Jonathan Liebesman). According to The Playlist, the heist thriller Now You See Me lies behind Door #1. Now You See Me is a spec script from Edward Ricourt and Boaz Yakin (Prince of Persia) about "a crack FBI squad in a game of cat-and-mouse against a super team of the world’s greatest illusionists, who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances and showers the profits on to their audiences." Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek) will produce alongside Yakin and Bobby Cohen (Revolutionary Road).

Leterrier confirms to The Playlist that he's still attached to Gravity, a high concept disaster flick where the Earth stops spinning and loses its gravitational pull. There's also the looming possibility of a Y: The Last Man adaptation; Leterrier recently suggested the 60-issue comic series may work best as a TV show. However, both of those projects are further down the to-do list. We'll see if Now You See Me is up next for Leterrier, or if he'd prefer to knock on a few more doors first.

It comes as no surprise to learn that Louis Leterrier is a huge fan of video games. Although it may not have translated well in Clash of the Titans, the imagery of his movies often bears an influence of the video game world. With that in mind, one of his favorite video games is the Electronic Arts survival-horror title Dead Space. As a profession of his fanhood, he has prepared an exclusive four-part video series where he visits the offices of Visceral Games at Electronic Arts in anticipation of the release of Dead Space 2. Check out the videos after the jump.

Leterrier filmed the videos for Allociné, but in an interview with French gaming website Julsa.fr, Leterrier explains his interest of Dead Space even further, discusses why he wanted to go behind-the-scenes, and even refers to the game as a “film:"
“I was a fan of the film Dead Space - I always refer to the game as a film. I wanted to meet the people who developed the game, to see how they worked, go behind the scenes. [With video games...] We can really do things that are totally creative, totally artistic, things that provoke an emotion within the viewer/player and create something that’s absolutely visceral.”
Leterrier, seen taking the tramway in San Francisco on his way to Electronic Arts, starts off his each of his four-part series by introducing himself:
“My name is Louis Leterrier, I’m a director, I’m French. I live and work in Los Angeles, but today, I’m in San Francisco ...

Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier’s wife Béatrice is set to direct her first feature film, and in quite a different style from that of her husband. In a recent interview, Leterrier revealed that her project Wrecking Ball will be a dramatic comedy with Eva Mendes attached to star. Although Mendes is the only actor currently signed on to the movie, her star power should help in attracting bigger names to the film.

For more on Wrecking Ball, including small details regarding Mendes' role in the film, hit the jump.

In talking with the French site Ecran Large, Leterrier gave this synopsis for Wrecking Ball:
During the Christmas weekend at home, a family reunion will bring back the awful memories of a tragic event that occurred 20 years ago and shake up the family core. And in the middle of all the uproar and arguments is a 5-year-old girl who unwittingly holds the key to their fate and the final outcome.
Although Wrecking Ball will be her first feature, Mrs. Leterrier has garnered directing experience in Europe with her work in commercials and videos. As mentioned previously, she’s also married into a filmmaking family. Her husband Louis' father François is a director and his mother Catherine is a costume designer (her most recent work was on the 2009 movie Coco Avant Chanel).

As for Mendes, it is believed that her turn in Wrecking Ball will see her taking on the role of a mother. If true, the role could mark a shift for the actress and help ...

When we last reported on the planned adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's fantastic comic book series Y: The Last Man, we heard that director Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans) may be interested in taking the helm. MTV's Splash Page recently spoke with Leterrier about the project and he confirmed that he was interested. However, the project is apparently mired stuck in limbo due to disagreements over how best to adapt the 60-issue comic series. Said Leterrier,
"I still want to do it. I'm passionate about it. But it's stuck. People don't know what to do with it. I'd love to do it, but I need people to finance it, and the people financing it don't know if it's a TV show a movie, or what it should be."
Hit the jump for why Leterrier thinks Y would work best as a TV series.

For those who don't know, Y: The Last Man centers on the adventures of Yorick Brown, who is the last man on Earth after a mysterious plague wipes out every mammal with a "Y" chromosome (with the exception of Yorick's trusted pet monkey, Ampersand).

Leterrier explains why he likes the idea of Y: The Last Man as a TV show:
"You take time to get to know your characters. You can introduce a lot of characters. You don't need your three-action set pieces that you usually need for movies. Frankly, with HBO and Showtime and cable shows, the DVD box sets and all, you can have a product that doesn't make ...

Louis Leterrier spawned a franchise with Clash of the Titans, but since he passed the sequel gig on to other hopeful directors, the Frenchman is searching for his next project. Leterrier may have found it in the high-concept disaster film Gravity (not to be confused with the Alfonso Cuarón/Robert Downey Jr collaboration). The pitch for Universal's Gravity is "The Day After Tomorrow meets Taken"--- hit the jump for details.

According to Pajiba, the story revolves around "a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning and Earth begins to lose its gravity." That sounds kinda cool. Crazy, sure, but cool. The success of the film probably relies on how silly the "air swimming" effect looks, but there have to be some great visuals inherent in 6.7 billion people floating through the sky.

Leterrier's name has been attached to the adaptation of acclaimed comic Y: The Last Man, though it looks like there's a lot of road to pave before it will hit the screen. Save for maybe Unleashed, Leterrier to has a resume filled with relatively financially successful action films with the first two Transporter films, The Incredible Hulk, and Clash. Marvel overlooked the Hulk director for The Avengers, instead handing the reins to Joss Whedon. Still, I'm guessing it won't be too long before a studio trusts the director with another considerable budget.

Gravity is currently housed by Mark Gordon Productions, with George Nolfi attached to produce. Nolfi has the promising The Adjustment Bureau, a sci-fi ...

After grossing $390 million worldwide (and counting), it should come as a surprise to no one that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans. Deadline reports that director Louis Leterrier will not return to helm the sequel. However, Sam Worthington will reprise his role as Perseus and almost every actor whose character survived will return as well. The studio is now rushing to get the film into production as it wants to make a spring 2012 release and get Worthington before the actor goes to shoot Avatar 2.

Hit the jump for my speculation on how Clash 2 will approach 3D this time around as well as news regarding a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I have yet to talk to someone who says that they liked the 3D in Clash of the Titans. Maybe I just need to talk to more people. But the box office numbers have clearly indicated that the crappy 3D conversion did not turn people off to the film (and apparently neither did badness of the movie itself). First, I would like the sequel to be better in the story department since it all comes down to story. But the larger talking point with this film is whether or not they'll shoot it in 3D. I'm indifferent to 3D in general, but if you have to make your movie 3D, then it needs to be filmed in 3D and not converted in post-production. The question is whether ...

Director Louis Leterrier's remake of the campy 1981 film Clash of the Titans pays homage to its predecessor in that you have to mock both films in order to keep them interesting. Even if you can somehow get past the forgettable characters, the dull action sequences, and the sloppy pacing, you still have to confront a central conflict that makes absolutely no sense. And may the gods help you if you pay to see it in 3D. By the end of Clash of the Titans you'll be begging for the simple charm of Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion creatures and Harry Hamlin's dumbfounded facial expression.

The people of Argos have chosen to invent hubris (which is actually a Greek word) and the gods of Olympus are less than pleased at this decision, particularly Zeus (Liam Neeson) who needs the love of mankind in order to fuel his mojo. Convinced by Hades (Ralph Fiennes) that Argos needs to be put in its place, Zeus decides to release the Kraken on the city in ten days unless they sacrifice their princess Andromeda (Alexa Davalos) to the titan. And really, what city wouldn't love a god after he's killed their princess and destroyed their home?

Enter Perseus (Sam Worthington), a demigod who doesn't know he's a demigod until his family is collateral damage in Hades' attack on some snotty Argarians. Seeking vengeance on Hades, Perseus agrees to save Argos from the Kraken because killing the Kraken will hurt Hades and holy hell it's already stupid. Zeus controls ...

A native of Paris, Louis Leterrier developed a love for cinema at an early age. After working as a production assistant or second assistant director on such films as Alien: Resurrection, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and Asterix & Obelix Meet Cleopatra, he went on to take the helm of Unleashed, Transporter 2 and the blockbuster The Incredible Hulk, based on the Marvel comic and starring Edward Norton.

Now, he is bringing his own version of the Greek mythology epic Clash of the Titans to the screen, in 3-D. While at the press day, the director talked exclusively to Collider about why he wants to hold some of the deleted scenes back from the DVD, how he thinks there will be a longer version eventually released and what the appeal of a film like The Avengers, which he is on the short list for, has for him. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: In remaking Clash of the Titans, what is the point where you stop worrying about what you have to do to please the fans, and just focus on making a really great film?

Leterrier: Early on. In the beginning, I watched the movie a couple of times, and then I was like, "Okay, I know the movie." I have the DVD, but I never watched it again, after that. It's on the shelf. I knew the movie was existing, but if I always kept the movie in my back pocket, that would ...

Director Louis Leterrier may be the one to finally bring Y: The Last Man out of development hell and onto the big screen. Based on the brilliant comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan (who is currently shopping around a script for his apocalyptic-heist story, The Vault), Latino Review reports (via their source "Pinche Taco", who is clearly a smart guy but for some reason writes like a mentally retarded Mexican) that the Incredible Hulk director is circling the project. Earlier this week, we reported that Leterrier was also on the short list for The Avengers, but Latino Review says that was just self-promotion on the director's part.

It's hard to say whether or not Leterrier is a good choice at this point. I like The Incredible Hulk, but it doesn't make me think, "This guy must direct Y: The Last Man." I'm seeing Clash of the Titans so I'll have a more informed opinion of the guy then.

Hit the jump for a brief history of trying to adapt Y: The Last Man thus far.

It's been a tough road for The Last Man. Mr. Taco does a good job recapping the problems with bringing it to the big screen and lays the blame at the feet of original producers J.C. Spink and Chris Bender and new owner New Line Cinema, specifically Chairman Toby Emmerich. However, he says that President Chris Brenner is championing the project, so we'll see.

A while back, the film was to be directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) ...

The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier is on the short list to lens on Marvel's highly-anticiapted super-hero team-up movie The Avengers. According to Aint It Cool News, Leterrier is in the running to direct but at the "bottom of the short list". Here's what Leterrier said to AICN:
"I am on the shortlist, but I'm at the bottom of the shortlist, I'm sure. (Laughs) I don't know who the other guys are, but I have a great relationship with [Marvel], and I've been very vocal to them and everyone else that I am the one to direct it. I loved my time at Marvel. I loved those guys. They're fantastic. [Marvel Studios President of Production] Kevin [Feige] is such a passionate boss; he gets his hands dirty. It's a universe I want to keep exploring. I was frustrated with [The Incredible Hulk]. It was like, "That's it? Only one superhero? Can I do more???" We'll see. Time will tell."
Leterrier has consistently demonstrated that he can put together fun action movies. The Incredible Hulk may not have had the box office success Marvel wanted ($134 million domestic off a production budget of $150 million), but it was still a quality entry into Marvel's movie continuity. Still, part of me feels like an uber director should helm Marvel's premiere superhero team. The Avengers are set to assemble on May 4, 2012 with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and the yet-to-be-named actor for Captain America. Leterrier's new movie, the remake of Clash of ...

Warner Bros. has released 10 movie clips from director Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans and you can check them out after the jump. Starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton, Jason Flemyng, Danny Huston, and Alexa Davalos, the film gets released April 2 in 3D. I caught a screening last night and while I probably shouldn't say too much as there is an embargo, it's a very fun popcorn movie that moves extremely fast. I think the running time was 1hr. 46 minutes. In fact, if I had one comment to the studio, I would have liked the film to have slowed down a bit as it moves so fast you barely have time to take a breath.

Also, while they wanted to show us the movie in 3D last night it wasn't ready, as the post production schedule is extremely tight so we saw the normal 2D version. But I thought the film worked in 2D as that's the way Louis Leterrier shot the movie last summer. Hit the jump to watch a ton of footage from Clash of the Titans:

As always, are the clips are in the player below. Once you push play you might have to watch a pre-roll ad and then all the clips will play in order. Sorry about the pre-roll, it pays for the bandwidth.

Warner Bros. has released 41 high resolution images from director Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans and you can check them out after the jump. The reason they went online today is the press junket is in Los Angeles this weekend, so they've released all the promotional items. It also means clips from the film will hit the net this weekend, so check back for those.

I'm actually going to a screening of the film tonight and I think it's the first time anyone outside of the studio will get to see the film. While I don't know if there is an embargo, if there isn't, I'll tweet what I thought. Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton, Jason Flemyng, Danny Huston, and Alexa Davalos.

Here's the synopsis:
In "Clash of the Titans," the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth.

I don't mind a behind-the-scenes featurette but the one for Clash of the Titans that has premiered on Yahoo! Movies is a parody of your standard EPK material. It's 85% trailer and the other 15% is actors Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton and director Louis Leterrier letting you know that this film has big set pieces, extreme stunts, and is an expensive action movie that has the Greek gods and creatures of myth like you've never seen before (except in God of War). I have no problem with any of that. That's why I like the trailer so much.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette along with the official synopsis. Clash of the Titans hits theaters in 3D on April 2nd.
