Nobody Walks, directed by Ry Russo-Young (You Won’t Miss Me), was one of the many films that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.  Written by Lena Dunham and Russo-Young, the ensemble drama stars John Krasinski, Olivia Thirlby, Rosemarie DeWitt, India Ennenga and Justin Kirk.  In the film, “Krasinski plays Peter, a Hollywood sound designer who’s agreed to help Martine (Thirlby) with her experimental art film as a favor to his wife (DeWitt). Martine, a beautiful and driven 23-year-old artist, comes to stay in the family’s pool house at their posh Silver Lake home, and her arrival ignites raw emotions and desires throughout the entire family.” Ennenga plays the daughter.  Since premiering, Magnolia picked up the film for domestic distribution, so you’ll be able to see it at some point down the road.

During my interview with Rosemarie Dewitt we talked about being at Sundance, who she plays in Nobody Walks and what it’s about, how the story changed along the way, karaoke and more.  In addition, since Dewitt just finished shooting Neighborhood Watch (which stars Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade), she talked about who she plays and what it’s about.  We also talked about Your Sister’s Sister and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Creator Matthew Weiner Talks MAD MEN Season Five; Says Two-Hour Premiere Is a “Big MAD MEN Movie”

by Christina Radish    Posted: January 17th, 2012 at 5:24 pm

As part of the AMC portion of the TCA Winter Press Tour, the cast and creator of Mad Men (which premieres on March 25th) hosted a cocktail party, which appropriately gave out a jar of green olives, just perfect for martinis, as a parting gift. During this interview, show creator/executive producer/writer/director Matthew Weiner gave very slight hints at where Season 5 is going, how he feels about all the network series that have been inspired by his creation, the themes and arcs he’s focusing on this year, why he wanted to do a two-hour premiere episode, how far ahead he plans things out, how often he’s surprised by where the story and characters take him, that there was a point where he was convinced that this season would never happen, how he feels about where this season ended up, and stressed that it was not his decision to keep the show off the air last year. During the cable channel’s press panel, the network announced that its critically lauded flagship series Mad Men will finally return on March 25th. The series will have been off the air for almost a year and a half, but season five will kick off with a two-hour premiere that creator Matthew Weiner describes as a “Mad Men movie.” Hit the jump for more, including the premiere date of The Killing, when audiences will finally find out who killed Rosie Larson, and an episode extension for the third season of The Walking Dead.

Jared Harris Talks SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, MAD MEN, and Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN

by Christina Radish    Posted: December 15th, 2011 at 3:28 pm

In Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, actor Jared Harris plays iconic villain Moriarty, with the perfect blend of menace and charm. He is the intellectual equal of the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.), but without a moral compass, allowing his capacity for evil to be endless.

During this exclusive interview at the film’s press junket, Jared Harris talked about how he ended up playing Moriarty, how daunting it is to play a genius criminal mastermind, the importance of keeping the character’s motives mysterious and unexplained, that he loves  a good fight scene, and how he’d love to revisit the role, if they ask him back for another film. He also talked about taking on the historical figure Ulysses S. Grant for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, working with Daniel Day Lewis, who stays in character throughout the shoot, currently filming the next season of Mad Men, and his return to Fringe. Producers Guild Awards Announces Television Series Nominees Including MODERN FAMILY, GAME OF THRONES, DEXTER, and More

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: December 7th, 2011 at 11:21 am

With awards season in full swing, the Producers Guild of America has just announced the television series nominees for the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards which will be announced on January 21, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. In the comedy category, I can’t believe a show with such inconsistent writing quality as Glee beats out something like Community, but there you have it. There’s still some deserving nominations with Modern Family and Parks and Recreation though. On the dramatic side of things Game of Thrones gets some well-earned loved for their first season and both Mad Men and Dexter continue their collection of accolades. For the rest of the nominees in each category as well as talk shows, competition shows and non-fictions shows, hit the jump.

PaleyFest 2012 Announces First Three Honorees: AMERICAN HORROR STORY, MAD MEN and MODERN FAMILY

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: November 18th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

It looks like the annual festival for all things television is getting off to a dysfunctional start…and I mean that in a good way. PaleyFest 2012 has announced the first three honorees of the event and all of them feature some of TV’s most quirky and unconventional characters. FX’s American Horror Story will serve as the gala opening, AMC’s Mad Men returns to the festival after being honored in its debut season and ABC’s Modern Family will close out the two week festival.

The 29th annual PaleyFest will return to the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills from March 2nd to the 14th, 2012 in a celebration of fantastic television. Hit the jump for more.

MAD MEN Creator Matthew Weiner Hints at What Viewers Might See at the End of the Series

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: November 14th, 2011 at 8:49 pm

Though working to bring Mad Men back almost each and every season proved to be a chore when negotiating with AMC, series creator Matthew Weiner likely has a more difficult task ahead of him as he works on what will be the final three seasons of the series as was dictated in the deal revealed in April of this year. Weiner will have to effectively end a series with rich characters that audiences have come to love for seven years by the time all is said and done. However, though the end is still roughly three years away, Weiner can’t help but think about how the series will end. And while he doesn’t know everything that will happen in the end, Weiner says, “I do know how the whole show ends.” Find out what else he had to say after the jump.

MAD MEN Season Five Episodes Set for 47-Minute Run Time

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: September 19th, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Mad Men slice

Back when creator/executive producer Matthew Weiner had finally closed his deal for the final three seasons of Mad Men, it was said that each episode airing on AMC would be trimmed down for 45-minutes in length as opposed to the usual 47-minutes that had been previously allotted. The episodes would, however, remain the proper length for OnDemand, DVD and other formats. However, Variety now reports that change in the running time has now been axed every single episode aired will be the 47-minute version. Weiner says, “”I don’t know how they managed to make that work out. It was a lot of worry. I’m so thrilled.” Frankly, while two minutes seems like an inconsequential amount to worry about trimming, when it comes to TV, every minute counts, especially when that show is something as spectacular as Mad Men. Sadly the fifth season doesn’t premiere until March 2012, but it will be worth the wait.

Tonight was the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and the winner’s list included some great names.  Perhaps the best win of the night was Peter Dinklage picking up Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Game of Thrones.  Not far behind was Kyle Chandler finally picking up an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series for the final season of Friday Night Lights (the show also picked up an Emmy for Best Writing in a Drama Series).  Martin Scorsese picked up an award for his direction of Boardwalk Empire‘s pilot episode, and ubiquitous character actor Margo Martindale won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Mags Bennett on FX’s Justified.

The top awards for Best Drama, Best Comedy, and Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series went to last year’s winners Mad Men, Modern Family, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, respectively.  Best Miniseries or TV Movie was awarded to  PBS’ Downtown Abbey while CBS’ The Amazing Race picked up another Emmy for Best Reality-Competition Program.  Hit the jump for the full list of winners.

Jon Hamm Talks FRIENDS WITH KIDS and the End of MAD MEN

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, I was able to sit down with Jon Hamm for an exclusive interview about Friends With Kids.  Written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein), the plot centers on a pair of thirtysomething best friends who observe the toll that having kids has taken on the couples they know and resolve to bypass that stress by having a child and then date other people.   Adam Scott and Westfeldt play the lead couple, while Hamm (who also produced), Kristen Wiig, Chris O’Dowd and Maya Rudolph play the couples with kids. Edward Burns and Megan Fox are also in the film.

During the interview, Hamm talked about being back at TIFF (he was there last year for The Town), was it tough to get Friends with Kids made and how did the project come together, his recent comedic work on 30 Rock, Bridesmaids and Funny or Die, and we ended the interview talking about Mad Men and his thoughts on the show coming to a close.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to the conversation.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, MAD MEN and MODERN FAMILY Win Top Prizes at the TCA Awards

The Television Critics Association honored the best in television tonight, and NBC’s Friday Night Lights was named Program of the Year for its fifth and final season. Though the show was never a ratings juggernaut, it has been beloved by critics throughout its tenure, and garnered a small but passionate fanbase. AMC’s Mad Men took home the Best Drama prize, while ABC’s Modern Family won Best Comedy at the 27th annual awards show.

It warms my heart to report that Nick Offerman shared the Best Individual Achievement in Comedy award with Modern Family’s Ty Burrell for his genius portrayal of Ron Swanson on NBC’s stellar comedy Parks and Recreation. HBO didn’t go home empty handed, as their smash-hit Game of Thrones won Best New Series. Hit the jump for the full list of winners.

2011 Emmy Nominations Announced; MILDRED PIERCE, MAD MEN, and BOARDWALK EMPIRE Lead with Most Nominations

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 14th, 2011 at 7:28 am

The nominations for the 2011 Primetime Emmys have been announced.  HBO, as always, led the pack as the miniseries Mildred Pierce picked up 21 nominations, Boardwalk Empire picked up 18 nominations, and Game of Thrones nabbed 13 nominations.  Also, as usual, Mad Men held the most nominations of any dramatic series by picking up 19 nods.  The Emmys also once again overlooked Community in favor of garbage like Glee, but they also finally showed Parks and Recreation some love.  It’s also cool that Louis C.K. (Louie), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Walton Goggins (Justified) picked up nominations, but overlooking Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) was just one of the many snubs that the Emmys have become known for.

Hit the jump to check out the full list of nominees.  Winners will be announced Sunday, September 18th at 8/7c on Fox.
