The domestic trailer has debuted for the sci-fi prison break film Lockout. The first half of the trailer is pretty rote, with lines like “He’s the best there is, but he’s a loose cannon.” It picks up when Guy Pearce appears, but altogether the tone here is wildly different from the international trailers we’ve seen previously. The action looks great, but Pearce’s charisma is almost entirely absent here. It’s a shame, because the movie actually looks really, really good in the other trailers. It’s cool and strange, and Pearce is hilarious as a wisecracking badass. Hopefully we’ll get a differently cut trailer soon, but for now US audiences will have to settle for this generic actioner.

A new featurette for the sci-fi action flick Lock-Out (aka MS One) starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace. The film centers on a wrongly-accused spy (Pearce) who must rescue the President’s daughter (Grace) from an orbiting prison. We’ve already seen from the trailers that Pearce is going to play a wise-cracking badass and this new featurette is basically centered on that character. I’m not sure how the rest of the movie will be, but if it works, Pearce is going to be a large reason why.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. Lock-Out/MS One opens April 20th.

We recently got a look at the first trailer for the sci-fi action thriller Lock-Out by way of an international teaser. It revealed very little in the way of plot, but Guy Pearce looked promising in the starring role. Now a new trailer has popped up, and it’s gets fairly deep into the story of the flick. Pearce plays a man who is tasked with going into a maximum security prison in space in order to rescue the US President’s daughter. Why does she need rescuing? Well it seems the space prison is in the midst of a little space prison break by the space prisoners. The visuals look really cool, and I’m really liking Pearce’s smart-ass character. The tag of the trailer refers to the film as MS One: Maximum Security so either that’s the international title, or the new overall title (I’m hoping it’s the former).

An international trailer for James Mather and Stephen St. Leger‘s sci-fi action thriller Lock-Out has gone online and despite the outer-space setting, the movie looks like a solid little thriller. Guy Pearce stars as wrongly-accused spy who must rescue the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from an orbiting prison. The Taken comparisons since both films were produced by Luc Besson, and once again Grace must be rescued by a guy with the special training to get the job done. The good news is that Pearce does a great job of selling the tough guy routine, and the action looks fun even though the cinematographer may have gone to the J.J. Abrams’ School of Needs More Lens Flares.

Helen Hunt, Aaron Paul, and Maggie Grace will star in Steven Bernstein’s indie dramedy Decoding Annie Parker. Variety reports that “the story centers on the irrepressible Parker, a breast-cancer patient who stops at nothing to solve the mystery behind her illness, despite the beliefs of the medical establishment.” There are no details on who the actors will play, but I think it would be a safe bet that Hunt will be playing the title role. Bernstein, who was the DP on [Correction: Like Water for Chocolate, not Water for Elephants] and Monster, will be making his directing debut on the feature. He and Adam Benstein co-wrote the script based on a true story. Filming is set to begin later this month in Los Angeles. [Updated: A spokesman for the film has told us that Samantha Morton (In America) will play Parker. Hunt will play scientist Mary-Claire King, Grace is Sarah, her assistant, and Paul has been cast as Parker's husband.]
It’s interesting that Paul continues to take smaller, indie projects as his hiatus films as opposed to his equally-talented Breaking Bad co-star Bryan Cranston. While Cranston is co-starring in the musical Rock of Ages, the drama Argo, and the remake of Total Recall. Meanwhile, Paul recently signed on to another indie dramedy, Smashed. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but it’s interesting to see the diverging paths of their film careers.

With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 arriving later this year (November 18), Summit has finally started up the promotional campaign by giving EW some new images from the final two movies. In addition, the magazine has tied the new images into a cover story with new quotes from director Bill Condon, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. For a peak at some of the images, as well as some of the cover story, hit the jump.

We’ve got quite a few casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, it looks like Penelope Cruz is set to re-team with director Woody Allen. The actress won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work in Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona and now EW reports that she’s set to work with the director again, presumably on his next film that is set in Rome. There are currently no plot details on the flick, which is set to start filming this summer.
Maggie Grace has closed her deal to return in producer Luc Besson’s Taken 2. There was previously some hubbub over whether star Liam Neeson would reprise his role from the first film, but everything was squared away and now Deadline reports that the film is ready to go with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3). Hit the jump for the casting news of Thandie Newton starring in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, Jay Baruchel joining David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Ryan O’Nan nabbing a starring role in Freelancers.

Steve is currently wandering around CinemaCon and in addition to snapping photos of promo posters, he also picked up some images from the upcoming films Drive and Lock-Out. For those unfamiliar with the flicks, Drive is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) and centers on a stunt driver (Ryan Gosling) who moonlights as a wheelman for mobsters. When he agrees to help the husband of his beautiful neighbor (Carey Mulligan), matters go awry and he must protect the neighbor and her son. The film has an incredible cast that also includes Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Oscar Isaac, and Albert Brooks.
As for Lock-Out, Guy Pearce talked to Steve about the film and said that the sci-fi action-adventure is “a rescue story, it’s set slightly in the future,” and his character must go on a mission to save the President’s daughter from an orbiting prison. The film is produced by Luc Besson and also stars Maggie Grace and Peter Stormare.
Hit the jump to check out the images. Drive is set to open on September 16th while Lock-Out is due on February 24, 2012.

Dwayne Johnson is an actor who seemed destined for action-star greatness. When Arnold Schwarzenegger turns to Johnson in The Rundown and says “Have fun,” it was a passing of the torch. But that light seems to have diminished as Johnson has, much to the chagrin of his fans, chosen family fare that doesn’t really encourage the bloody mayhem someone of Johnson’s physique and charisma could deliver. As if to answer all those who were unhappy with films like The Game Plan and Tooth Fairy, in the first five minutes Faster has Johnson get out of prison, drive a badass Chevelle, and shoot a guy in the head. The film then struggles to keep the remaining 90 minutes interesting, going so far as to introduce a distracting antagonist whose only purpose is to provide brief action scenes. Weighed down further by vague notions of sin and salvation, Faster is a surprisingly joyless affair that still manages to show Johnson’s dramatic range, but replaces his charismatic grin with deep sorrow.

With Dwayne Johnson’s Faster hitting theaters next week, CBS Films has provided us with 4 clips from Johnson’s return to kicking ass. While I’m under embargo from saying too much, I don’t think they’ll mind if I tell you Faster is exactly what I hoped it’d be: a lean, violent, revenge flick that shows what Johnson can do when he’s not making family films.
What I especially like about the movie is that it never wastes time trying to give Johnson’s character too much backstory, or trying to make him out to be a saint. The movie starts with him leaving jail and almost immediately he kills someone. That’s Faster. If you’re into watching Johnson going around extracting revenge on the folks that killed his brother, you’ll like this film. Hit the jump to watch 4 clips.

While most of you don’t know who Oliver Jackson-Cohen is, if you see Dwayne Johnson’s Faster, that’ll change. That’s because Jackson-Cohen plays a bi-polar, very well dressed, killer who is after Johnson’s character. If you saw the green or red band trailers, you might have seen Johnson firing his gun at him in the hallway. I know this because I watched the scene get filmed earlier this year.
Anyway, while on set, during a break in filming, I was able to participate in a group interview with Jackson-Cohen. He talked to us about his character, preparing for the role, working with Maggie Grace, Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, as well as how he got the part and what it was like to work on his first big Hollywood movie. Hit the jump to either read or listen to what he had to say:

FilmDistrict has followed up their recent purchase of the Ryan Gosling-starring Drive by acquiring the U.S. rights to Lockout, an sci-fi actioner produced by Luc Besson. The film stars Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, and is currently on track to go into production early next year, with a planned release date of early 2012.

With the November 24 release date only a month away for Dwayne Johnson’s return to kicking ass in movie theaters, CBS Films has released a new green band trailer for Faster. If you remember, last week the studio released a red band trailer, which showed you this wasn’t another Dwayne Johnson kids flick.
Written by Joe and Tony Gayton (Bulletproof), Faster is directed by George Tillman, Jr. (Notorious) and it stars Carla Gugino, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace, Jennifer Carpenter, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Moon Bloodgood, and Tom Berenger. Hit the jump to watch:

Dwayne Johnson is looking to push into more action after a slew of kid-friendly flicks and CBS Films’ Faster is his re-entry into the genre. George Tillman, Jr. (Soul Food, Barbershop) will direct the hard-nosed revenge flick, written by Joe and Tony Gayton (Bulletproof). The flick has already received an R rating and the new clip certainly shows its violent and sexy side. Hit the jump for the red band trailer, plot synopsis, and the mildly impressive cast.

Maggie Grace (Taken) has been cast as Bella’s foe in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The actress has landed the role of Irina in the final two installments of the franchise, which will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) and split into two films. I don’t know much about Twilight, but Deadline describes the character of Irina as “a member of the Denali coven, considered cousins to the Cullen clan as the only other ‘vegetarian’ vampire group. When Irina blames the Cullens for the death of her lover, her actions set in motion a terrifying chain of events.”
The first part of Breaking Dawn is set to be released on November 18, 2011, with the second half opening on November 16, 2012. In the meantime, you can next see Grace in this fall’s Faster. Hit the jump for the official synopsis for Breaking Dawn.
