Comic-Con 2011: NIKITA Panel Recap; Maggie Q Demonstrates Climbing Up Tall Guys and First Footage of Season 2

At this year’s Comic-Con, The CW held a panel for their hit show, Nikita, and it was an absolute riot.  They showed a brief teaser for the next season, as well as a music-infused highlight reel of the biggest moments of season one.  Oh, and star Maggie Q demonstrated how she climbs up tall guys in the show to knock them out…on an attendee.  Yea, things got crazy.  Hit the jump to check out my full recap of the panel and a preview of Nikita season two.

With director Scott Stewart’s Priest opening this weekend, I recently spoke with the cast and after the jump is my interview with Maggie Q.  Since I spoke to her at last year’s Comic-Con about Priest, I tried to ask her new questions.  We talked about seeing the finished film for the first time, the challenges of making it, how one of her action scenes got the biggest reaction at the press screening, how does TV (Nikita) compare with making films, and what’s her karaoke song.  Hit the jump to watch.

Maggie Q Interview PRIEST

In the vampire action thriller Priest, Maggie Q stars as Priestess, a mysterious soldier who fought to defend mankind from the vicious vampire creatures that threatened to destroy the human race, and then was banished, along with the other Priests, for being seen as too powerful. Spending their time doing menial labor, the warriors who once saved the human population from its most terrifying enemy are now shunned by their neighbors. But, when a vampire attack leads to the abduction of the 18-year-old niece (Lily Collins) of Priest (Paul Bettany), he decides to break his sacred vows and defy orders by setting out to find the girl, with the help of Priestess and their otherworldly fighting skills.

During a recent interview to promote the film, actress Maggie Q talked about playing a character who has sacrificed everything, how she sees Priest as a drama that just happens to have action and vampires in it, and how much she enjoyed working with Paul Bettany and exploring the relationship between their characters. She also talked about how her television series Nikita will have a big finale that will run like a movie for the last couple of episodes. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

4 Clips from PRIEST

With Screen Gems Priest opening May 13, the studio has sent over four clips from director Scott Stewart’s film that stars Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, Brad Dourif, Stephen Moyer, and Christopher Plummer.  Here’s the synopsis:

Priest is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi ride, set in an alternate world – one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.

WonderCon 2011: PRIEST Recap

Tonight I was able to see some footage from Scott Stewart’s Priest as Screen Gems premiered a few scenes to a number of WonderCon attendees. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the film stars Paul Bettany as a renegade warrior priest who goes on the hunt for his niece who’s been kidnapped by vampires. The 3D film also stars Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, and Lily Collins. Hit the jump for my reaction to the footage.

New Trailer for PRIEST Starring Paul Bettany

Someone please put Paul Bettany in better movies.  The new trailer for Priest has gone online and I have little faith in this movie.  While I like the idea of a futuristic vampire western, this film, which re-teams Bettany with his Legion director Scott Charles Stewart, appears to go overboard on crappy CGI and po-faced self-importance.  Someone please explain to me why a film where a guy throws a bunch of crucifix shurikens is trying to be deadly serious.

New Posters for FASTER, THE NUTCRACKER in 3D, and PRIEST

We’ve got a whole bunch of new posters for you tonight — one each from Faster and The Nutcracker in 3D, plus a set of six from Priest.  As a refresher:

• Faster stars Dwayne Johnson as a man looking to avenge his brother’s death from behind the wheel
• Nutcracker is the latest retelling of the classic holiday ballet, with Elle Fanning at the lead
• Priest is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name led by Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Lily Collins, each of whom get their own character one-sheet

Trailer for PRIEST Starring Paul Bettany

The unintentionally hilarious trailer for Priest has gone online.  I challenge you not to giggle at the deadly-serious tone, the crappy-CGI vampires, or lazy scares.  While I’m a huge Paul Bettany fan, the dude needs a hit.  The only positive in the trailer is it looks like Karl Urban is having way too much fun.  I want this flick to be better than the wretched Legion, Bettany’s last collaboration with director Scott Charles Stewart, but this trailer doesn’t give me a lot of hope.

Review: The CW’s NIKITA

I’ve never seen Luc Besson’s 1990 film La Femme Nikita, nor the 1993 American remake Point of No Return.  I have vague memories of commercials for the USA series that followed in the late 1990s, but I don’t recall ever, you know, watching it.

I’m in the heart of The CW’s target age group (if not gender), though, so I imagine that’s what the network expects — maybe even wants.  I recognize the brand, but I’m a blank slate.  I couldn’t tell you how The CW’s Nikita fares against prior iterations, but the first episode left me mostly impressed.  My review after the jump.

On The CW’s highly anticipated drama Nikita, actor Shane West plays Michael, a top lieutenant in Division, the secret organization that former assassin Nikita (Maggie Q) has vowed to destroy. Michael trained Nikita when she was a recruit and is now faced with the responsibility of tracking down his renegade student. At the same time, he is also in charge of training Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca), Nikita’s young replacement, along with other recruits.

During a recent phone interview, Shane West spoke exclusively to Collider about what attracted him to this re-imagining of the Nikita story, how much he enjoys working with Maggie Q, the physicality of the role and how good it feels to know that so many people are interested in tuning in to the series. OPERATION: ENDGAME Blu-Ray Review

When a film has an eclectic cast including the talents of Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, Maggie Q, Jeffrey Tambor, Ving Rhames, Emilie de Ravin, Adam Scott, Odette Yustman, Ellen Barkin, Brandon T. Jackson and Joe Anderson you’re either in for something fantastic or a complete disaster. Though the fact that this title went straight-to-DVD is somewhat of an indicator, there’s certainly a battle to be fought in deciding whether action and comedy come together to form an entertaining flick. So how does this story of two feuding teams of government assassins fare? Find out after the jump.

Executive Producer Craig Silverstein Interview NIKITA

As the executive producer of The CW’s new drama Nikita, Craig Silverstein wanted to make a female action show, but knew that if he was going to tell the story of Nikita (Maggie Q), it would have to be different from what fans already knew. Instead of doing a rehash, he decided to pick up where the origin story left off and show what has happened to the character after having been in hiding for three years, allowing him to surround the familiar figure with a new, fresh cast.

During an interview to promote the action series, Craig Silverstein talked about how this new Nikita story came to be, what makes the story so compelling and the importance of always surprising an audience. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Lyndsy Fonseca Interview NIKITA

In The CW’s new drama Nikita, actress Lyndsy Fonseca stars as Alex, a young woman with a troubled past, who is now leading a double life. Division’s newest recruit, she is a beautiful girl with a violent history and a story that is very similar to Nikita.

During a recent interview to promote the new action series, Lyndsy Fonseca talked about being put through the auditioning ringer for the role, how being a dancer has helped her with the physical side of her role and that the series won’t stop having twists and surprises. As a deeply troubled teenager, Nikita (Maggie Q) was rescued from death row by a secret U.S. agency known as Division. Fooled into believing that she was being given a second chance to start a new life and serve her country, she quickly learned that she was instead being trained as a spy and assassin. After being betrayed by the only people she thought she could trust, she did the impossible by escaping, in order to seek retribution and destroy their covert operations.

During an interview to promote the CW’s Nikita, show star Maggie Q talked about taking on the legendary character, her love of action roles and vowed never to wear that red bikini in the pilot episode again. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Comic-Con 2010 Celebrity Images

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any bigger, the annual San Diego Comic-Con manages to do just that. The exponentially growing number of attendees and non-comic book related attractions doesn’t deter it from being one of the biggest draws of the summer for fans of superheroes, sci-fi, action-adventure and all things vampire. Over the last couple of years, people have even decided to camp out on the street under tents, for a better chance to catch a glimpse of the A-list actors and filmmakers that film Hall H with their upcoming blockbusters.

While I understand that Comic-Con ended on July 25^th, I went straight into attending the Television Critics Association Press Tour, where I’ve been every day since, and I haven’t had any time to post these until now. But, I got so many great photos of the folks that I interviewed that, even though Comic-Con ended awhile ago, I think the photos are still of interest.
