Predator is one of the great action movies of the 1980’s. John McTiernan directed the hell out of it, and it is one of the great signature Arnold Schwarzenegger roles. They tried sequelizing it, and then there were the pathetic Alien vs. Predator films – Fox knew there was a franchise here, they just didn’t know how to pull it off. So they hired Robert Rodriguez to produce a new sequel that ignored all the other spin-offs, and to class it up, they ripped off James Cameron by naming it Predators. Nimrod Antal directs Adrian Brody, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Laurence Fishburne, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Louis Ozawa Changchein, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Oleg Taktarov as a group of killers rounded up by Predators, and let loose on an Alien planet to defend themselves. In this case, the hunters become the hunted until they become hunters hunting the hunters who are hunting them. My review of Predators on Blu-ray after the jump.

Earlier today I had the opportunity to see a screening of Nimrod Antal’s Predators, followed by a press conference with Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez. While I can’t say much about the film, just know that I loved it. In our 25-minute press conference, Antal and Rodriguez spoke about:

An age-restricted, international trailer for Nimrod Antal’s Predators has hit the net. It’s gory, has an amazing one-liner from Laurence Fishburne, and is way too spoilery. There’s only a handful of actors in this movie and the trailer shows one of them getting killed. Obviously, in a movie where all the characters are prey for the Predators, folks are going to die. But you don’t need to show me which ones and how they’re going to die. Why should I even have to say that? It’s common freaking sense. Also, it’s not even an inventive kill, so what exactly are they showing off?
Basically, this trailer shows too much. If that doesn’t bother you, then hit the jump to check it out. Predators hits theaters on July 9th.

Three Italian websites have premiered posters for Nimrod Antal’s upcoming film Predators. The posters are English but they’re for the international market. For those who don’t know, Predators ignores the events of Predator 2 and the Alien vs. Predator movies. Instead, it’s about a group of killers transported to a planet that functions as a game reserve for the predators. The film was produced by Robert Rodriguez and stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Laurence Fishburne.

Thank to Robert Rodriguez posting the Predators sneak peak trailer on the official site last night, I screen-grabbed over 20 images from the clip so you can look at them without having to continually push pause. While some of you out there thought 20th Century Fox was going to, once again, fuck us with another bad Predator movie after the AVP fiascoes, I think after you see these images or watch the sneak peak trailer, you’ll be completely on board. Also, Predator dogs are coming!
In addition, I did a set visit on Predators back in December, and while I’m under embargo from saying what I learned on the set visit, Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal are not, and last night at SXSW they revealed a ton of info about the movie. Hit the jump to read a bullet point recap and also check out the images. The official trailer get released on March 18th.

Predators, Nimrod Antal’s anticipated sequel to the Arnold Schwarzanegger classic was finally previewed at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin last night. 20th Century Fox, which is producing the film, also released a new teaser poster. The sneak peak does not say anything that producer and screenwriter Robert Rodriguez has not already revealed in interviews but the cinematography is sleek and the Predators look as bad-ass as ever. Even better, Adrian Brody looks half-way believable as the hero of the story. You’ll have to wait until July 7th to get to the chopper but until then hit the jump and check out both the sneak peak, the poster, and the official synopsis.

I understand the need for redemption from the “Alien vs. Predator” movies and if adding more xenomorphs made “Aliens” an action-charged flick, then adding more Predators can’t be a horrible idea. Recent casting news seemed sensible: Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Alexa Braga, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (his nickname is “Ali” although I can’t possibly imagine why he would need a nickname), and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov. A team of ass-kickers, just like in the original “Predator”. But who would lead this band of modern-day vikings?
Adrien Brody. Because when I think “bad-ass”, I think, “Adrien Brody”. That’s who’s leading them. Oh, and Topher Grace may also be in the gang, also as a bad-ass. Let this casting news sink in a bit and then hit the jump.
