Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.  The film tells the story of a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who falls in love with a larger-than-life rocker (Tom Cruise) set against the backdrop of the 1980s music scene, featuring songs from the likes of Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon.  The gist of the trailer is that if you like 80s rock, you’ll probably like a musical that only features 80s rock and uses it as a basis for the plot.  But there’s also an important lesson:  When sleazy guy played by Paul Giamatti give you a chance at fame, you take him up on his obviously legit offer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mary J. Blige. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Rock of Ages opens on June 1, 2012.

First Trailer for WANDERLUST Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston [UPDATED with New Images]

The trailer for David Wain‘s Wanderlust has gone online.  The movie focuses on Manhattan couple George and Linda (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) who are forced to move to Atlanta when George loses his job.  Moving to Atlanta is apparently a fate so terrible that it causes Aniston to scream at the heavens.  The two then move around to various locations until they land on a commune and start to feel renewed.  It looks like For Better or Worse or Did You Hear About the Morgans? if either of those movies were funny.  Wain delivered a great little gem with Role Models and it’s tough to go wrong when you throw in The State alum like Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.  There’s a bunch of great jokes in the trailer, and it isn’t even a red-band version.  Color me excited for this flick.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The great cast also includes Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Lauren Ambrose, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan AldaWanderlust opens February 24, 2012. [We've updated the article with new images which you can check out after the jump.]

Two bits of casting news for you today: one from a Canadian, dark comedy, indie pic while the other is from the fifth installment in a big budget horror franchise. First up, is the addition of Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) to director Peter Wellington’s Cottage Country. The pair star as a couple vacationing at a family cottage where Todd (Labine) plans to propose, but is derailed by the arrival of his lazy brother and his hippie girlfriend.

In less quaint and subtle cinema, the role of Leon Kennedy will be portrayed by Johann Urb (2012) in Resident Evil: Retribution. This is the latest addition to the cast of the fifth installment in the video game/horror franchise starring Milla Jovovich. The news of his casting comes via her Twitter account when she said, “AND if u checked out my vid yesterday from the table reading u wld hve noticed Johann Urb! He is our Leon Kennedy n looks jst like him BTW!!”

Malin Akerman Joins ROCK OF AGES

Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages has been searching for months to find its “Constance”, the journalist who sleeps with decadent rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) even though she’s supposed to be writing an expose about him.  The project courted Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, but both actresses passed on the film after they were offered roles in superhero movies (Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises and Adams for Man of Steel).  Today, Rock of Ages finally has its Constance as Deadline reports that Malin Akerman will take the role.  In addition to Tom Cruise, Akerman will be joining Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Zeta Jones.

Rock of Ages is the latest film to fall into Akerman’s packed schedule.  She’s currently shooting Medallion with Nicolas Cage, she replaced Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story, she’s co-starring in the romantic comedy The Giant Mechanical Man, and she’s starring opposite Ethan Hawke in the spy thriller The Numbers Station.   Akerman can currently be seen in theaters co-starring in the war drama The Bang Bang Club and she has two more films coming out later this year: the indie crime thriller Criminal Empire for Dummy’s and the David Wain comedy WanderlustRock of Ages is due out June 1, 2012.

Ryan Phillipe, Malin Akerman, and Taylor Kitsch star in the narrative feature debut of writer/director Steven Silver.  The Bang Bang Club opens on April 22.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Malin Akerman Exclusive Interview HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE

by Christina Radish    Posted: March 2nd, 2011 at 7:29 pm

In the ensemble comedy happythankyoumoreplease, actress Malin Akerman plays Annie, a woman in her 20′s who has had an unhealthy pattern of dating the wrong men. Because of an auto-immune disorder called alopecia universalis, which has resulted in her being entirely hairless, Annie has an amazing spirit and has learned to face life with full force.

During the press day for the film, Malin Akerman did this exclusive interview with Collider where she talked about her connection to this character and how she misses playing her, shaving her own eyebrows for the role, and working with How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor on his directorial debut. She also talked about her role in the upcoming comedy Wanderlust, opposite Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd, and her next project, Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, which she expects to start shooting in April. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Malin Akerman in Negotiations to Star in MEDALLION with Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is starring in yet another action film, and it looks like Malin Akerman will be along for the ride. Akerman is in negotiations to take on the female lead in Medallion, from director Simon West (When a Stranger Calls). The Taken-esque story centers on “a former master thief (Cage), who has only a few hours to find his daughter when she is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a New York medallion taxi cab.”

Heat Vision reports that Akerman will star as Cage’s former girlfriend/bankrobber who, of course, teams up with Cage to help him find his daughter. David Guggenheim (Safe House) wrote the script, while McG is producing, sigh. West and Cage previously teamed up for the fantastically ridiculous Con Air, and one can only hope that working together on this project will get the ball rolling on that Con Air sequel that West wants to do. Akerman recently replaced Lindsay Lohan in the Linda Lovelace biopic Inferno.

It’s been sitting on the shelf for a little while, but Elektra Luxx, the sequel to director Sebastian Gutierrez’s 2009 film Women in Trouble, finally has a trailer.  The film stars Carla Gugino as a former porn star who agrees to seduce a woman’s fiancée but ends up getting drawn into a world of wacky intrigue.  In addition to Gugino, the film’s got a great cast which includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Timothy Olyphant, Adrianne Palicki, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marley Shelton, and Malin Akerman.  But the real reason to see it is Gugino in skimpy clothing.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Elektra Luxx is due out March 11th.

Happythankyoumoreplease Trailer and Poster

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 12th, 2011 at 4:23 pm

One of the many films that premiered at last year’s Sundance Film festival was writer/director Josh Radnor’s happythankyoumoreplease.  While many might have thought Radnor only got into Sundance due to his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, his film won the Dramatic Audience Award at Sundance last night, proving he belonged at the Festival.

Starring Radnor, Malin Akerman, Kate Mara, Zoe Kazan, Tony Hale, and Pablo Schreiber, happythankyoumoreplease is about six New Yorkers juggling love and  friendship.  Even though the story is nothing new in the world of movies, I really enjoyed Radnor’s debut film.  Also, while many Sundance movies are tough to watch, happythankyoumoreplease is a really sweet romcom that’s sure to please audiences looking for an uplifting movie about love.

With the film getting released March 4, a new poster and the first trailer have been released.  Hit the jump to check them out.  You can also watch my video interview with Malin Akerman and Josh Radnor here.  It was recorded at last year’s Sundance.

Malin Akerman Replaces Lindsay Lohan in INFERNO: A LINDA LOVELACE STORY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 21st, 2010 at 8:54 pm

Due to her ongoing legal troubles, Lindsay Lohan has been replaced by Malin Akerman (Watchmen) in Matthew Wilder’s Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story.  The director broke the news on his Facebook page [via TheWrap].  Deadline adds that the problem with Lohan was that “she’s impossible to insure and the producers loved Malin.”  Lohan may have cost herself the role in mid-September when she failed a post-jail drug test.  For those who don’t know, Inferno centers on porn star Linda Lovelace.  Lovelace achieved notoriety for her performance in the successful hardcore porn film Deep Throat.  Per Wikipedia, Lovelace (real name Linda Susan Boreman) “later denounced her pornography career, claimed that she had been forced into it by her sadistic first husband, and for a while became a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement.”

TheWrap notes that “Akerman may not sell as many tickets as Lohan”, as if Lohan still got people to come to the theater.  The box office receipts for I Know Who Killed Me would beg to differ. Hit the jump for more on Akerman’s busy schedule.

We have two quick pieces of casting news for you this morning.  First up, Ron Perlman has joined the stellar cast of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive. Based on James Sallis crime novel of the same name, the story centers on a Hollywood stuntman (played by Ryan Gosling) who also works as a getaway driver.  The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks, and Albert Brooks.  Production is scheduled to begin this fall.

Unfortunately, Screen Daily’s article doesn’t have any details on what role Perlman will play.  Perlman is also playing Conan’s papa Corin in Conan.  He can currently be seen in the new season of FX’s Sons of Anarchy and co-starring in the drama Bunraku, which is playing at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Malin Akerman has joined Ethan Hawke in Kasper Barfoed’s spy-thriller The Numbers Station.  According to Variety, the story centers on “a disgraced black ops agent (Hawke) tasked with a dead-end job of protecting a young woman in the middle of the Nevada desert. When the two come under attack, they have to fight to stay alive.”  So it really is a dead-end job!  Hey-o!

Akerman will next be seen in The Romantics, which opens this week, and in the drama The Bang Bang Club, which screens at the Toronto International Film Festival.  She’s also co-starring in the indie crime flicks Criminal Empire for Dummys with Gary Oldman and Milo Ventimiglia and Catch .44 with Forest Whitaker and Bruce Willis.

TIFF 2010: 4 Movie Clips from THE BANG BANG CLUB Starring Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman, Taylor Kitsch

by David Lane    Posted: August 26th, 2010 at 8:53 pm

One of the many films premiering at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival is writer-director Steven Silver’s The Bang Bang Club – which stars Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman, Taylor Kitsch, Neels Van Jaarsveld and Frank Rautenbach.  Here’s the synopsis:

The Bang Bang Club was the name given to four young photographers: Greg Marinovich (Ryan Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Taylor Kitsch), Ken Oosterbroek (Frank Rautenbach) and Joao Silva (Neels Van Jaarsveld), whose photographs captured the final bloody days of white rule in South Africa. The film tells the remarkable and sometimes harrowing story of these young men – and the extraordinary extremes they went to in order to capture their pictures. Robin (Malin Akerman) is their photo-editor, who looked out for them, protected them and made sure their photographs were seen across the world.

While the first thing we normally see is a trailer, we’ve been provided with four movie clips and a number of images.  So if you’re curious about The Bang Bang Club, hit the jump to check everything out:
