Production has completed on the neo noir caper Hotel Noir, and the first image from the film has been released.  Snakes on a Plane screenwriter Sebastián Gutiérrez tries his hand as a director at the noir genre in the 1950s-set film that centers on a detective holed up in a downtown hotel waiting for assassins to kill him.  We follow the detective through the night as he meets and converses with various characters who have haunted pasts of their own.  This being a Gutiérrez film, it’s described as a “sexually charged” crime film.  The cast is fairly impressive and includes Rufus Sewell, Carla Gugino, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Malin Akerman, and Robert Forster.  The pic is currently without distribution, but it will be shopped to international buyers in Cannes.

If the first trailer for director Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages didn’t blow your denim miniskirt up, perhaps this new one will.  The Hairspray director leads this feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical by the same name. Centering on a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who falls in love with an all-star rocker (Tom Cruise), Rock of Ages will feature 1980s hits by such classic bands as Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon.  This particular trailer ends on a high note of sorts with Cruise rocking out to Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Rock of Ages, also starring Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mary J. Blige, opens June 15th.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

The first trailer is now online for Lee Kirk’s quirky romantic comedy The Giant Mechanical Man. It tells of the oft under-represented love story of a zoo worker and a street performer who are both seeking meaning in this crazy world of ours. The Giant Mechanical Man stars Jenna Fischer, Chris Messina, Malin Akerman, Lucy Punch and a hilariously douchey Topher Grace. You can see what Fischer had to say about the movie, which was directed by her husband, in this interview here. Hit the jump to check out the synopsis and the trailer.

Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman Talk WANDERLUST and ROCK OF AGES

by Christina Radish    Posted: February 22nd, 2012 at 9:14 am

In the hilarious new comedy Wanderlust, over-extended and over-stressed Manhattanites George (Paul Rudd) and Linda (Jennifer Aniston) leave their over-priced micro-loft in the West Village and stumble upon Elysium, an idyllic community populated by very colorful, sexually adventurous characters, including alpha male Seth (Justin Theroux) and free-spirit Eva (Malin Akerman). Surrounded by nudists, a former porn star, and a woman with no boundaries, even in the bathroom, this seemingly refreshing way of looking at things quickly makes George and Linda question whether staying there is the right thing for them to do.

During a press conference at the film’s press day, co-stars Justin Theroux and Malin Akerman talked about working with director David Wain, how much input they had into their characters, how awkward it is to be wearing clothes when you’re surrounded by nudists, how hard it was to keep a straight face (Akerman was the one to break character the most), and how excited they both are for their next feature film, Rock of Ages (Akerman has a role in it while Theroux co-wrote it), due out in theaters in June. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Opening next Friday is David Wain’s (Role Models) new comedy Wanderlust, and Universal has released a last-minute red band trailer for the pic. My ticket was already sold simply because I’m a big fan of Wain, Paul Rudd, and everyone involved, but this red band trailer reaffirms that Wanderlust is poised to be an incredibly funny flick. If you’re worried about this trailer spoiling all the good jokes, rest assured that there are only a couple new bits sprinkled in with the material we’ve seen previously.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Malin Akerman, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan Alda. Wanderlust opens in 2D on February 24th.

First Trailer and Poster for ROCK OF AGES

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the feature adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.  The film tells the story of a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who falls in love with a larger-than-life rocker (Tom Cruise) set against the backdrop of the 1980s music scene, featuring songs from the likes of Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon.  The gist of the trailer is that if you like 80s rock, you’ll probably like a musical that only features 80s rock and uses it as a basis for the plot.  But there’s also an important lesson:  When sleazy guy played by Paul Giamatti give you a chance at fame, you take him up on his obviously legit offer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mary J. Blige. Directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Rock of Ages opens on June 1, 2012.

First Trailer for WANDERLUST Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston [UPDATED with New Images]

The trailer for David Wain‘s Wanderlust has gone online.  The movie focuses on Manhattan couple George and Linda (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) who are forced to move to Atlanta when George loses his job.  Moving to Atlanta is apparently a fate so terrible that it causes Aniston to scream at the heavens.  The two then move around to various locations until they land on a commune and start to feel renewed.  It looks like For Better or Worse or Did You Hear About the Morgans? if either of those movies were funny.  Wain delivered a great little gem with Role Models and it’s tough to go wrong when you throw in The State alum like Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.  There’s a bunch of great jokes in the trailer, and it isn’t even a red-band version.  Color me excited for this flick.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The great cast also includes Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Lauren Ambrose, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan AldaWanderlust opens February 24, 2012. [We've updated the article with new images which you can check out after the jump.]

Two bits of casting news for you today: one from a Canadian, dark comedy, indie pic while the other is from the fifth installment in a big budget horror franchise. First up, is the addition of Malin Akerman (Watchmen) and Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) to director Peter Wellington’s Cottage Country. The pair star as a couple vacationing at a family cottage where Todd (Labine) plans to propose, but is derailed by the arrival of his lazy brother and his hippie girlfriend.

In less quaint and subtle cinema, the role of Leon Kennedy will be portrayed by Johann Urb (2012) in Resident Evil: Retribution. This is the latest addition to the cast of the fifth installment in the video game/horror franchise starring Milla Jovovich. The news of his casting comes via her Twitter account when she said, “AND if u checked out my vid yesterday from the table reading u wld hve noticed Johann Urb! He is our Leon Kennedy n looks jst like him BTW!!”

Malin Akerman Joins ROCK OF AGES

Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages has been searching for months to find its “Constance”, the journalist who sleeps with decadent rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) even though she’s supposed to be writing an expose about him.  The project courted Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, but both actresses passed on the film after they were offered roles in superhero movies (Hathaway for The Dark Knight Rises and Adams for Man of Steel).  Today, Rock of Ages finally has its Constance as Deadline reports that Malin Akerman will take the role.  In addition to Tom Cruise, Akerman will be joining Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Zeta Jones.

Rock of Ages is the latest film to fall into Akerman’s packed schedule.  She’s currently shooting Medallion with Nicolas Cage, she replaced Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: The Linda Lovelace Story, she’s co-starring in the romantic comedy The Giant Mechanical Man, and she’s starring opposite Ethan Hawke in the spy thriller The Numbers Station.   Akerman can currently be seen in theaters co-starring in the war drama The Bang Bang Club and she has two more films coming out later this year: the indie crime thriller Criminal Empire for Dummy’s and the David Wain comedy WanderlustRock of Ages is due out June 1, 2012.

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: March 21st, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Tribeca Film has released the first official trailer for The Bang Bang Club, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of last year.  The political drama is based on the true story of a group of four young combat photographers situated in post-Apartheid South Africa in the early 1990s: “This intense political period brought out their best work (two won Pulitzers during the period) but cost them a heavy price.”

Ryan Phillipe, Malin Akerman, and Taylor Kitsch star in the narrative feature debut of writer/director Steven Silver.  The Bang Bang Club opens on April 22.  Watch the trailer after the jump.
